Yes, they are. I am concerned that their sense of urgency is leading them to rash decisions. If the Sox get off to a good start and play consistently good baseball all season, all will be forgotten.
Please, let's not blame every bad decision that happens on a sense of urgency. Most of the bad decisions will be the result of bad decision making, something in which Farrell has specialized in his managerial career.

You sure love your Royals Dojji.

I love 2 WAR players filling positions where we have a gap, too. Dyson's WAR the last 3 years is as follows, 1.8, 2.8, 2.2. Average starter level, maybe a bit above, over that 3 year timeframe. if there's enough doubt about Castillo, making a trade for Dyson has to be considered.

Why would the Royals trade Dyson though? And what would we give up? What they want is an Orlando/Dyson platoon ideally, and would have to receive an overpayment to give him up.

Should have kept Murphy and sent Castillo down. Castillo's only shot is AB's and he is not going to get them here. This is DD making an all out effort to move Castillo and Pablo this year. Long term there is a much better chance to move Castillo if they give him the opportunity to improve but that opportunity would likely cost them the possibility to move him this year.

Pablo now has no option. He can rot on the bench turning into a Star Wars character in the process or he can himself ask to go to fat camp or can acquiesce to it if it is the Sox that do the asking. But just like keeping Castillo up hurts the chances of moving him long term but gives an outside chance of moving him this year, sending Pablo to the bench and forcing his hand, gives the Sox the best chance of moving Pablo out sooner rather than later.

Have you seen how much weight he has gained just since camp has started? The real issue is he may be on the other side of his career now. He may not be a player 50 lbs south of here either. But there is no chance of moving him like he is and he gets bigger every day.

This is all about moving Castillo and Pablo or at least trying to as soon as it can get done. Tough job...but what else are they going to do?

They might trade Dyson because they have an abudance in Dyson's role, and Dyson is at a point in his career where he's starting to get a little expensive. They have Paulo Orlando and Terrance Gore to provide speedy outfield depth. that's a position of depth from which one might make a trade. I'm sure we could get a deal done, my only concern is the price might not be reasonable.

Are they going to have a righty-righty platoon then? Because of Orlando and Gore both hit from the right side. And it's not like the Royals are paupers, they're coming off a WS win and have increased their payrrol significantly. They may actually trade one of the other two, less established players, but Dyson is their main guy, the only one who hits lefty, and provides game-changing speed. The idea makes no sense for the Royals, who aren't just going to trade him because "they have depth". Other teams aren't a feeding tube for the Red Sox. Trades need to make actual sense for the other team too.

De Aza would be a better bench role. Murphy is hanging by a thread, from what he hinted, he might hang it up.

He signed with the Mets for 5.75M this offseason. Murphy was brought in for $2M if he made the team.

Personally, I think Dombrowski is a little insecure in himself.

He is exhibiting what I would call a baseball Napoleon complex.

If by Dombrowski, you mean Henry. After all, Henry's bizarre comments entering the season showed where this is all coming from.

That is correct.....JH wants these guys outta' here. Wants Pablo gone because he is not going to tolerate paying $20m to have a built in joke generator on his 25 man roster. Lets face it...the way he is gaining weight, the jokes are just going to be endless and this only gets worse from here on all fronts. Castillo is just money down the drain unless they can get somebody to gamble on him.

I hope you're wrong. Some of the very worst ideas that this franchise has implemented in recent years have come from executive dictation. Suggesting that the high executives are still meddling for all they're worth does not make me a happy person.

I'm not suggesting that Henry is meddling. I'm suggesting that he and Dombrowski are on the same page about making moves like benching Panda and Castillo.

by now Castillo should have assimilated to MLB. Instead he had 1 extra base hit in 54 plate appearance this spring. Benching him is not the solution, get him to AAA to get regular PT.

I agree. Regardless of his sizable contract, He needs to play everyday to have the best chance of becoming a MLB hitter. It would be nice if they sent him down and allowed him to get several hundred AB. Maybe he could figure out how to hit a breaking ball. If not, too bad.

I think it would be a mistake to put him out there every day in MLB because he would be non-productive and hurt the offense. This team needs it's best current talent out there now to be able to contend.

It might be a change in the approach the Sox have taken in recent years. Size and length of contract in addition to years under team control although needing to be considered are not what is driving the lineup. People keep saying that Sandoval and Castillo have been benched. That is definitely semantics. They were outplayed and are getting what they deserve for now. Things could change for sure. IMO it has very little to do whether Farrell fears for his job or not. I also think that it is a safe bet that Dombrowski is not totally pleased with the roster at this point in time either. In a perfect world , Holt, a very good utility player, would not be our starting left fielder and a World Series MVP at the age of 29 would be playing third base for us. IMO once again, the right message was sent if you happen to be into messages. Your contract guarantees your paycheck but not your playing time. It is what it is and hopefully everybody learns and takes something away from the experience. This way of doing things tends to work for me thus I like it.

Castillo "deserved" to go to AAA but is not going. In fact the Sox would have a better shot long term of getting Castillo outta' here if they had sent him down. But that would very much hinder any effort to get him gone this year and that is why he is still here. The dif is the long shot of being able to move him out this year. Nothing else makes sense in keeping him up. He needs AB's and won't get them here.

I believe Castillo is very movable to another team that needs a CF. He is a 1WAR+ starter, not entirely useless like the sap that is Pablo.
