Lester hasn't thrown to first from the stretch in two years. He'll have fun in the NL. How come Orsillo never mentioned that? Too pre-occupied with his wardrobe, I guess.

Maddon hit Lester in the 8 hole. Didn't LaRussa do that every once in awhile?

I found that very interesting that Lester hasn't thrown to first in so long. I did not realize that.

Lester is also 0-962 or something like that in his major league career as a hitter. That's a good reason for Maddon to bat him 8th. The dude tries too hard to prove to the world that he's a genius.

The umpire had a large strike zone last night. The question is, did the umpire expand his zone based on the great pitch framing by Molina and Ross, or do Molina and Ross appear to be better framers because of the umpire's large strike zone?

Can't we get the data on each ump's usual strike zone somewhere? :)

I am pretty sure I read an analysis on umpire strike zones a while back, but for the life of me, can't remember when or where.

I have been dying to sink my teeth into some of that data and commit it to memory so I can add that to the baseball stories that I will tell my grandchildren someday. ;)

Yes, we can. Well, I don't know if "we" can, but "they" can. I was actually being a little facetious in my post, because Molina and Ross are known to be great framers.

BTW, I am honored to have made your sig line. My next goal is to have you commit my posts to memory so that you can one day tell your grandchildren about the awesome poster Kimmi that you once knew. ;)

And that's how we were overtaken by our robotic umpiring overlords. Goodnight sweet prince.

Will they stay awake during my explanation of advanced Sabremetrics, or will they think it was really cool that I was at the Pedro- Clemens showdown at Yankee stadium won by a 2 run Trot Nixon Home Run, the Big Papi walkoff homers that I was at fenway for, or seeing my game 6 ticket for the 2013 World Series and my Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski autographed bats? I'm going with the sabrementrics and kimmi posts first. ;)

As for the sig thing, I know that you have a soft spot for Theo, but I am a big believer in accountability. I want you to hold him accountable if he can't produce a winner in 5 years with a boatload of top prospects and a big reserve of money.

Epstein made his share of blunders in Boston too Ted but the composite record was more favorable than not. Mistakes are easy to make when personnel are involved but I think he should be able to fashion together a solid team in Chicago the next half-dozen years. I admit I was bummed by Jon Lester's less than impressive debut last night. Hell, I even wore my Cubs tee shirt I bought in Chicago last summer. The crowd had to feel let down too after the exuberance of all the pre-game hoopla. I'll take a more sedated atmosphere today and a win.

There's no reason why your grandkids couldn't be just as excited about sabermetrics as they are in all of your cool stories. It's all in the approach.

I've already said I would hold Theo accountable if his team isn't a serious playoff contender by next year. By the same token, if the Cubbies are serious contenders this year or next, then you should admit that he is a baseball god.

Yes, I know that you said that you will jhold him accountable. I sigged it so you wouldn't think of letting him slide for the good times. :)

My duaghter and fiance are Chemical Engineers, so it is not out of the question that if they have kids that they might find the sabremetrics aspect more interesting.

LOL You don't have to worry about me letting Theo slide. I can admit when he and I are wrong.

There you go. They'll have it in their genes.

And as a small bonus for me, the Rockies are beating the piss out of Milwaukee.

I don't think anyone told the Rockies that they're supposed to be in the cellar of the NL West.

I suspect you didn't sweat much during the game due to the score so you won't even have to wash it.

And maybe clubhouse chemistry.

So I took a look at the Rays roster the other day and I am willing to admit I may be underestimating it because I've never even heard of half the guys, but.... I've never even heard of half the guys.

MLBTV is lagging like a bastard. Really hope this isn't the norm.

Gave up on that ******** two years ago. Mostly because I have DSL and so it's often crapping out during games. f*** it, ain't nobody got time for that.

I love how the media is all over Lester's s*** after one start on a cold April night.

So Colon outdueled Scherzer... That's a new one. At least my birthday buddy Bryce Harper homered for my fantasy team.

I was wondering all last night where my colleague MC33 (might not have gotten that handle completely right) was. He said he was switching to the Cubs after last season's Red Sox disaster but I never really believed him for a second. I did think he might have made the Cubs his second team as I'm trying to do for the second year in a row. Today I wore (am wearing my white Red Sox 2007 WS Title Shirt with the Red and Blue logo and the red trim around the edges. It seemed to work. Notice how many good pitchers lost today? Weaver, Scherzer, Tanaka, Hamels, Archer. Yet there was Clay Buchholz pitching a seven inning, three hit gem. A couple of other balls were hit hard but for the most part he was in top form today. We really need him to stand up tall this season Ogden.

I wore my maroon generic no logo sweatshirt today. I never realized it was a lucky garment before today.

Oh come on Ogden, I have lucky Red Sox socks.

And I won't even begin to tell you the "rituals" that I will repeat if the Sox are doing well. LOL Rationally, I know it doesn't work. But try convincing the irrational side of me that it doesn't. LOL
