Time for 700 to change his signature. The Cubs are in the playoffs.

:)

Congrats to the Cubbies. I can't stand Maddon, but I'm pulling for Theo and Lester. The Cubs will have their hands full with the Pirates in the wilcard game in Pittsburgh.

I'd be willing to bet anything that Papelbon instigated it.
It looked like Papelbon called him out for dogging it. Harper didn't like it and shot back. Harper is immature, with an attitude problem. He needs a good ass kicking ans Papelbon was the one willing to administer it.

Whereas Papelbon is completely mature, with a professional attitude? I love the guy for what he did for the Sox when he was here, especially in 2007. But he is a gigantic unlikable douchebag.

I just don't remember him being a clubhouse problem when he was with the Red Sox, and I also don't remember any time when he didn't give 100% or work off his tail. So, I am not getting the douche angle.

I thought this started when Papelbon drilled Machado and Harper complained about it because if there was reprisal he would be the one getting drilled.

Yes, I think that was part of the back story, but something with Harper's AB triggered Papelbon. He might still have been stewing about Harper's comments from the prior day.

I know lots of Red Sox fans hate Papelbon and that is just ridiculous to me. He was the best closer in my lifetime and he was a big part of a Championship team and several other very competitive Red Sox teams. His durability is and reliability were and are second to none. You could set your clock to the guy. I love Koji, and he had one of the greatest closer seasons ever in 2013, but his reliability and durability just do not match Papelbon's

Haven't you heard heard?

For some screwed up reason, the one game playoff game doesn't count as the playoffs.

Even though it's a playoff game.

I never understood the lack of love for Papelbon, from a baseball standpoint. Even when he struggled, he was one of the best closers in baseball. I would have loved for the Sox to re-sign him, just not for the price that the Phillies signed him for.

I didn't see Paps as a clubhouse cancer while he was with the Red Sox. However, I got the impression that he was with both the Phillies and the Nationals. Of course, they say that one's true character comes out when things are going bad. Things went well for him while in Boston. Not so much with the Phillies or Nationals.

The Cubs would be leading or tied for the lead in every other division except for the one that they play in. Considering the number of games they play against the Cardinals and the Pirates, their record is even more impressive. Anyone who is not willing to admit that Theo did a great job of rebuilding that franchise and making them contenders is just being stubborn. His team is even one year ahead of what most people thought they would be. I might have to admit that Theo is more of a genius than I gave him credit for. ;)

Your hard on for this douchebag is both embarrassing and nauseating.

Are you a Red Sox fan? Everyone that calls Papelbon can't explain what he did while he was in Boston to justify calling him that.

Don't mind him, he literally hates everyone. If he was to write a book on the people he hates, it'll never be published.

Third place team. You can't pick your division.

I realize Paps is a major idiot. But he did great things for my team and I have nothing bad to say about him except that he failed to properly bludgeon and bloody that punk Harper.

That's pretty much it, right there.

The guy's an idiot and has no filter, but he was a one hell of a closer for us.

Not that I want him back.

The altercation was the only interesting thing in the Nats September. Papa is one big guy with a crazy look. I always thought that his crazy look on the mound served him well. Crazy is good for a closer. Do you remember the Mad Hungarian!

What does that matter? Are they a playoff contender or not?

IMO, Paps was right to call Harper out for not running hard on the fly ball out. Where he went wrong was in physically assaulting Harper.

i get it. You are convinced that he is a genius.

I am sure I am in the minority, but I don't think it would be the craziest of ideas to take Papelbon back. I wouldn't take him for the $11 mil that he is owed, but if the Nats really want to get rid of him and are willing to eat half his salary or more, I'd take a flyer on him.

He runs his mouth to the media sometimes, but as far as I can recall, he was never a clubhouse problem while with the Sox.

As we all know all too well, we need some bullpen help. Paps is still a very effective closer. That said, re-signing him would have to be with the understanding that he might or might not be the closer, depending on how Koji bounces back next season.

Yes, I am.

And I get it too. You just can't give him any credit for a job well done.

i have nothing against Theo. He made some bold moves in 2004 which were just what that team needed. I never thought he was a very good negotiator when it came to giving out contracts as he tended to overpay. He's not our GM anymore so he means nothing to me. He's not even in charge of a team in our league. He's irrelevant as far as I am concerned. The only reason I even know his name is because he used to be our GM. I couldn't name the GM of any other team in that division.
