For the record, "super clutch" Derek Jeter has Rodriguez beat by a massive .005 OPS in the postseason. Intangibles!

Right. Then again, A-Rod's regular season OPS is 125 points higher than Jeter's.

I also have to wonder about that great postseason A-Rod had in 2009. It was his finest hour, but considering what we know about the guy, suspicions are raised.

The interesting thing about Rodriguez is that he hasn't been a choker in pressure situations, but is rather up-and-down depending on the season.

Check out his 2009, where he was a monster in both high leverage situations (100 + OPS over his low leverage numbers) and the postseason. Yet he carries the "choker label", even though he's been mostly successful in high leverage situations and has a respectable .833 OPS in the postseason. This is why the clutch argument is so contrived. It's just not a repeatable skill.

In one study conducted, the correlation between a player's clutch performance from one year to the next was .01. In other words, nonexistent.

So was his high-leverage situation OPS over a much more significant sample. Also, steroid use should have absolutely no bearing on a "pressure vs. no pressure" scenario.

Again, the point is that clutch isn't a real thing IMO.

"Captain clutch" was so bad in some postseason series that he was actually detrimental to his team, but since he's Derek Jeter, he's still clutch.

Grand Slam for Pedroia hahaha

Pretty good hitting, not so good pitching. I hope Ogando's next effort is better. I'm told he has a good arm and moxie. We may be needing him badly in the bullpen this year even though Breslow said his arm feels better than it has it ten years. Don't know what to make of that. What I would like to see is the team win about half their games this Spring and emphasis placed on sound defense, improved pitching and timely hitting. Then again, isn't that what every team says?

The best hitter in ST last year was WMB. These games don't matter much. Ciriaco was a ST All Star too in 2012.

And to think, they just gave Farrell an extension!!!!! Two more years of these soft camps!

Well now. Victorino is being held out of games until Monday with soreness in his legs. Farrell says that it is not related to Vics back.

It was my understanding that Victorino was in great shape several weeks before the official start of camp. How does this happen?

I hope it's not an indication of what his 2015 will be like.

Swihart had a 3-run jack today off Bud Norris.

This should be a really good year to watch him hone his skills in Pawtucket.

I want Shane in that lineup Spud but if this going to be another 2014 version of in and out then he has to realize he is going to be either a reserve or traded. Hopefully this setback is because he hasn't used his legs strenuously for quite some time, but he needs to get back in that lineup and stay there if he want to contribute like I know he can.

I agree Spud, I hope this is not sign of things to come. Victorino only knows one way to play, and that is to go 100% all out. You can't really fault him for that, but that is likely going to keep him banged up a good bit. Victorino did take BP today, so it seems that holding him out of the game is more precautionary than anything else.

Clay's line today: 3IP, 41 pitches, 26 for strikes. 0 hits, 0 runs, 4Ks, 1 BB

And there folks, is our ace.

With Victorino's health a crap shoot and Hanley's recent history of missing time, they would be crazy to trade Craig. There is a half-rumor which has been laughed off that the Giants might be interested in him due to Pence being out for awhile.

But the Giants are wondering what to do when Spence comes back in May.

It was nice to hear that Craig had two hits and two walks today. I've been very skeptical about him.

Every year the spring has great meaning for some players. There are many unsettled issues for the Sox this time around. Wins and losses of course aren't particularly important but overall play of course is. The theory of just getting the work in is good for some but not good enough for others if they have any chance of playing in Boston this year. I wasn't there to see it but it is kind of tough for me to believe that Victorino came into camp in excellent shape if he hurt himself going from first to third on a base hit. I don't see this as an over the top effort by him. Coming into camp I think that is something he should have been able to do. You don't get a gold star for makng that effort. You have to be able to do that if you are him. I like him and hope that it all works out but I am glad that they have other and maybe better options to fall back on. Also I mentioned Rodriguez about 6 weeks ago saying that scouts thought his upside was higher than Owens. Once again, it is only spring training and I like Owens but I was very happy to see Rodriguez come out of the shoot the way he did.

I do not want to see Craig traded. He has said that the way he felt coming into camp this year and the way he felt coming into camp last year are like day and night. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but there is reason to be cautiously optimistic about him. At this point, unless a trade comes along that just blows them out of the water, I think it would be wise for the FO to hold on to what we have and reassess a couple of months into the season.
