I have no loyalty or any particular appreciation for ownership groups or FO personell. I will go to my grave as a Red Sox fan, unless the Taliban purchases them.

SCM would prefer the Taliban purchase the team. Pink hats would no longer be allowed and he could enjoy his sausage fest.

Wow, this thread is a joke. Why waste your time posting this? If you want to be on the Cubs bandwagon, then go on your way. There is no need to make a new thread for it. Baseball is a game. You have true fans and then you have yourself. I am not the happiest with front office right now either, but I am not going to become a girl on her period and start making impulsive decisions. I understand the frustration with the FO, but I know that you have no loyalty to the Red Sox. You are the reason why some baseball fans are a joke. I appreciate the true fans of the game of baseball.

My god, this is awesome. These rants are hilarious.

But SCM - I understand how you feel. But the whole sport is a business now. It's gotten pretty wack. Fred brings a win at all cost mentality. I swear, he's basically George Steinbrenner as a Red Sox fan.

Prune Face----I have become a fanatical Red Sox fan since I came aboard in 2000 and can't for the life of me understand how any fan of our team could defect. On reflection I think the guy will come back around. You don't defect from the Red Sox. What's amazing is that he thinks I'm NOT really a Red Sox fan. Now how silly is that?

And is it possible to delete this thread all together? It got my dander up and pissed off a lot of people. Frankly, I can't speak for SCM but I now am convinced he didn't mean what he said and will be back in the fold. Besides, a whole slew of us here despise Lucchino. Let's all move on if we can.

My hatred for the front office and management finally boiled over.

I can no longer root for this organization unless Larry Luchinno is removed from office. I will always love the TEAM at heart, but its just not fun anymore.

From this point on, I will root for Theo and Lester and the underdog Cubs. I've rooted for an underdog my entire life, and nothing will compare to the absolute joy/thrill of finally seeing a World Series winner in 2004.

The ownership group has literally made it impossible to root for them. I hate the ********. I hate the 7th anniversary of 2004. I hate the 10th anniversary of 2004. I hate the shameless TV shows. I hate paying 25 dollars for a beer. I hate the highest ticket prices in baseball to watch a s***** product 3 out of the last 4 years. I hate them for Bobby Valentine. I hate them for Carl Crawford. I hate them for losing Theo. I hate them for the Terry Francona smear campaign. I hate them for "Cheerful Cody Ross" and the "Friendly Mike Aviles" and the "Inspiring Daniel Nava". I hate them for bricks and coffee table books. I hate TV ratings and sellouts. I hate the fact that they feel like they have to celebrate EVERYTHING just to put butts in seats. I hate them for Jon Lester.

I hate that they went away from a baseball team, and became a business that only cares about tv ratings, revenue and sellouts consisting of 50% pink hats, 25% white collar "fans" and 25% of REAL fans.

I hope you all can understand the rant. I hope to one day root for this team again, but they are pretty much everything I hate about professional sports. I think that taking an interest in the Cubs will really give me what I am missing as a fan of baseball. Passion, and love of the game......

In the end, its still a game.....a child's game. As such, it should be fun to watch. I think this will be a fun year to be a fan of baseball again.

Go Cubs!!

Went away? It was ever thus. I feel your frustration.

However - they moves they made otherwise (I know, there's a "how did you like the play Mrs Lincoln" feel to that quip) have been good. The only way to combat the loss of a guy Lester's caliber is either A) with another guy of Lester's caliber or B) genuine depth in the rotation. The Red Sox have solidly addressed B) and there is still enough assets to address A) but on their terms.

Are they a better team on paper now than they were in August? Without a doubt yes.

You have an interesting take. Most people like or dislike the guys in the suits because they are responsible for who makes up the team on the field.

I have a unique take on lots of topics. Yet, people think they can predict what I will think or tell me what I think. They are usually clueless bastards who arewasting their time. LOL!!

Being a suit myself for a business, I have an upclose perspective in forming my opinion that most suits are leaches and overhead. In professional sports, the level of business acumen is lower than you find in major industries as lots of ex-jocks and other sycophantic types fill these positions for sports franchises. A kid with a History degree would never lead a Company in financial industries in any capacity, but there is a spot for him in baseball. I like the guys on the field. The owners are nothing more than a bankroll. I will analyze and evaluate their performance. If they make good moves, I will give them credit. If they make bad moves, I will hammer them. In either case, I have no loyalty to any of them. Unlike onfield talent, the suits are fungible.

I guess my attitude now, which is unfortunate in some ways, is that with rare exceptions, the onfield talent has also become fungible. Rosters are turning over so rapidly that, as Jerry Seinfeld put it 'we're cheering for laundry.'

If something is fungible, it can be replaced without a change in performance. Our roller coaster ride in the standings for the last 3 years clearly demonstrates that the onfield talent is not fungible.

Aha...I misused the word fungible then. So the essence of what you said is that one GM (or executive) is exactly the same as another.

I am repelled by Henry. Part of the reason is that I have no use for very rich people. Especially those that have not gained their riches by making a legitimate contribution to mankind. Most everyone like Henry is a taker, not a giver. So yes Ted, they are leaches.

Luchino repulses me as well, although for other reasons. I just see him as snot.

Werner I have no strong opinion on one way or another. Another rich guy.

I like your take on it Ted.

Not sure why you are so angry with Fred SCM, I think he is a nice poster and all the time talks about baseball and doesn't insult/attack other fans like others that we all know typically do, unless he is attacked.

Long time ago I said that Ted and you were my fav posters because you see baseball in a very objective way and do not sugar coat the things around like others do. I still think that you are an excellent poster but I consider both Fred and Ted my friends here. Hopefully one day you can shake hands and drink a beer and move on, both have a lot of knowledge about baseball. Regarding your fandom, hopefully you change your mind and if not, it is not the end of the world, it's just game, you can root as many teams you want, no big deal.

The off-field differentiating factors for teams are budgets and the scouting and development operations. The suits are pretty fungible. And even if not, I would not be a fan of them or root for them. They have no talent that I admire.

yes, lucky lucchino is an *******, but thats not a good reason to bail on your ball club.

this ownership team has had incredible success

but whatever, right?

have fun rooting for the chicago club, i don't care which one you choose

True fans don't root for the names on the back of the uniform, but the name on the front. Everyone wants BC to get a #1 NOW, but waiting and being patient might lower the asking price for some of these number 1s.

Gringo, I've had a round or two with that guy but I am convinced he did not mean what he said. Give him a week or two to cool off and he'll be back on board with the rest of us.

Red Sox Celebrate Christmas at Fenway Atop Santa's 'Naughty List'

Bill Speros

Merry Christmas at Fenway on Saturday.

Select single-game tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, as well. Automated web pages are standing by.

Me thinks the virtual waiting room will like the drive-thru at Dunks at 3 in the morning. A quick in-and-out.

The Red Sox have been very naughty this year.

Much like the Grinch, they "stink, stank, stunk."

They were moving away from Santa's "Nice" list even before the 2014 season began. They discounted the value and worth of Jon Lester early and often. They mocked the Yankees and others for spending wildly, or as some may say, paying market value for players. They snookered us all into thinking they would be a playoff team for the second straight year.

Just back up the coal truck to Yawkey Way.

Meanwhile, we loaded up on 2013 World Series championship swag and 2014 tickets.

Ho-Ho-Hosed.

Things got far worse-than-expected once the games began. The team quickly found last place and stayed there for pretty much the entire season. State Run Media trumpeted each rare, coveted victory as the long-awaited "turnaround" that would right the Ship of Sox.

Turns out the 2014 Red Sox had more turnarounds than the Fresh Pond Rotary. And they slogged in a circle of futility until they were mathematically flushed away form contention on Sept. 10. That was their earliest Elimination Day since 1966.

Bah, humbug.

There was never any turnaround of substance. A Memorial Day weekend sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays witnessed firsthand did it for me. Others bailed after a brief winning streak in early June. Still more checked out around July 4 and the All-Star Break. By the time of the July 31 trade deadline, even Wally was headed for Patriots' practice and preparing for his fantasy football draft.

Not even Rudolph could guide these guys into contention.

Off was Lester, and Lackey, and Peavy, and Miller.

The remaining pitching staff resembled a lineup from the Island of Misfit toys. Clay Buchholz was the "choo-choo with square wheels on the caboose." And Brandon Workman was the "Cowboy who rides an ostrich."

Sadly we didn't have Heat Miser and Cold Miser to break up the monotony. Although watching Jerry Remy lose a tooth on the air was a highlight.

Christmas is all about faith, at least for the billion or so people worldwide who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The holiday's religious beginnings are rooted in a belief that man can be saved, despite all of his shortcomings. It has become a mix of commercialism, religion, celebration and, for some, even reflection.

We wisely avoid religion and politics here. We won't be waging any "War on Christmas, either. Massachusetts law, however, does requires me to wish everyone a "Happy Winter Solstice."

It is the Red Sox, speaking of religion, who so often implore us to "Keep the Faith."

Faith in what?

For Red Sox fans, they are being asked again to put their faith in an ownership group with a markedly mixed record. This group has done wondrous things. It saved and revitalized Fenway Park. It forever purged the Red Sox of their monochromatic DNA. It has engineered three World Series Cups in just over 10 years.

This same group has also constructed two last-place finishes since presiding over the greatest September playoff collapse in history. And they threw in Bobby Valentine for good measure. All of that has occurred in just the past 39 months.

The Red Sox combined record over the past four seasons is 327-321. That's three losses away from perfect mediocrity.

Most recently, ownership either massively screwed up with Lester in underestimating his value before the season, botched its negotiations with him, traded him, and then tried to re-sign him as a free-agent. Or Red Sox ownership never really wanted him back in the first place.

Either way, it doesn't look good. The Red Sox don't get a pass here like they did with Jacoby Ellsbury. If you believe the Red Sox wanted Lester, but only at their price, then they didn't really want him. They have the money.

Instead of a shiny new No. 1 starter under the tree at Christmas this year, the Red Sox have given us a sack of No. 3s.

Instead of a new Xbox, you got a Nintendo Entertainment System, Operation, and a deck of cards.

Instead of a new Lexus, you get two used Ford Escorts and a moped.

Instead of a new jacket and pants from Louis, you get three pair of jeans from Walmart and a bag of socks.

3+3+3+3+3 and 1+2+3+4+5 equal the same number [15].

The Red Sox will try to have us believing by Truck Day that five No. 3s are worth the same as top-heavy rotation with a solid No. 1 and No. 2.

Common Core math, Red Sox style.

Some teams have found success with that route in recent years. The Pirates and Orioles are two examples. But neither went deep in the postseason, never mind won a World Series.

Piles and piles of mediocrity never equal greatness. Five 1977 Denny Doyles for one Yaz was never good deal.

The current rotation is stout with youth and promise. But can you name anyone on the staff as of now, and add James "Mediocre Game" Shields and Cole Hamels if you'd like, who you would rather have starting a Game 7 of the World Series over Lester? Or even Game 4 of the ALCS if you were down 2-1?

Nope.

The Red Sox starting lineup has potential to score runs aplenty. Expect lots of strikeouts, as well. Many believe this is what the masses want. Pitching is usually boring to watch until October.

And there will be Panda Heads.

Red Sox spring training tickets are on sale and most games at Jet Blue are already sold out. The hashtag #TheGiftofSox was a top trending topic in Boston on Friday. And many of the Tweets were sincere in supportive of the savvy marketing campaign.

Thankfully there was still some caustic sarcasm out there.

The crowd at Fenway on Saturday will no doubt be ebullient and looking at the broken glass as being half-full.

"Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God."

Or fourth place, if He is too busy.

After all, this is the most wonderful time of the year.

Except for Red Sox fans over the age of 10, and those who are not topped in pink.

For they know Santa won't be coming next year, either.

But he appears to be from the school of wiseass cynicism already mastered by guys like Shaughnessy and Wilbur. So no marks for originality.

My friend... I just bought my tickets as well for opening day and for the second game against WSN. April 13th and 14th. I bought the opening day tickets via stub hub since at the red sox site aren't available anymore. As for tickets for the second game, I bought them directly at the site, seems like some tickets are still available. The opening day tickets are for the infield grandstand 15 section, Row 18 and the tickets for the 2nd game are for the grandstand-first base, section G15, Row 18. The opening day tickets cost me 449 USD (2 tickets) and I'll be able to print them until April 8th according to stub hub. The tickets for the second game cost me 92 USD (2 tickets). I paid 4 times more for the opening day tickets, crazy LOL!... hopefully the experience worth the fee.

Anyway, hopefully I meet you there and other posters as well if you or somebody else is assisting to those games at Fenway.

This will be your first trip to Fenway? I hope you get good weather (a rarity in Boston in April) and I hope you see them win! If I am in Boston at that time, we will have to arrange to have a drink.

I just bought some tickets too. The fees have gone way way way up. I usually buy cheap tickets in April and move around. $20 worth of tickets cost $36 dollars after fees. How does that work?
