That fat juicer Colon pitched a complete game shutout tonight.

He now has more complete games (and shutouts) on the season than the entire Boston staff, although that's misleading since one of his shutouts was a 7 inning rain ended one of us.

Speaking of shutouts, I looked into the shutouts this season (for no particular reason) and here's what I found.

Adam Wainwright: Rockies and Brewers

Justin Masterson: NYY and White Sox

Bartolo Colon: Red Sox (7 innings) and White Sox

Jeremy Guthrie: White Sox

Jeff Samardzija: White Sox

Anibal Sanchez: Twins

Shelby Miller: Rockies

Hiroki Kuroda: Baltimore

Jason Vargas: Baltimore

Jordan Zimmerman: Cincinnati

Jake Westbrook: Cincinnati

Brandon McCarthy: Miami

Cliff Lee: Miami

Chris Sale: Angels

Hyun-Jin Ryu: Angels

Jon Lester: Toronto

Clayton Kershaw: Giants

Kyle Kendrick: Mets

Aaron Harang: Padres

Other than the fact that the White Sox offense is prone to sucking donkey balls (evidenced by low runs and minimal walks) I'm surprised that Houston, Seattle, Dodgers, Rays (based on recent no-hit history), and the Cubs aren't listed yet teams like Cincinnati, Baltimore, NYY, BOS, TOR and teams in band boxes like the White Sox and Rockies are listed.

Also, in my research I found that a s*** load of these were 1 hit shutouts.

Haha, I can post it now.

Angels lose the first three against the Astros. They were set up to get back to .500 with a sweep of the 'Stros, but they might get swept instead. Those monster contracts are going to cripple that franchise.

Who do you think is our biggest competition in the division? I think a pretty solid case could be made for the Rays. They have the second base run differential in the division. They're half a game behind the O's and are tied with the Yankees in the standings, and pythag theory suggests the O's and Yankees have been two games luckier. They're basically the only team in the division, other than the Red Sox, that has good pitching and hitting. The Rays are 6th in the AL in xFIP, 6th in the AL in wOBA and 3rd in the AL in UZR. By comparrison, the second place O's are tied with us for first in the AL in wOBA, but they're 12th in the AL in xFIP. The third place Yankees are 4th in the AL in xFIP and they're 12th in the AL in wOBA.

The Rays get the Tiger next and that's a tough matchup. But I expect to see them in second place in the division in a couple of weeks.

And the Astros swept the Halos... Wonder how happy are those who bet on Houston, lines should be at least -200 or so lol

It will be interesting to see if Puig can set the baseball world on fire in LA like Fernando Valenzuela did in the 1980's when he was a rookie.

La "Fernandomania" in 1981 was crazy, not olnly in LA but in the whole country (Mexico). Everybody stopped activities in order to watch him pitch. I haven't seen that phenomenon in Mexico since then.

Damn Toronto could have taken the series vs. Texas and really help us put them behind.

They still can.

Either way I don't mind seeing the Jays in the basement. Hope they stay there all year long.

In today's Met's -Marlins game, both starters Fernandez and Harvey had quality starts, but Marcum pitched 8 innings of 1 run ball in relief and Kevin Slowey went 7 innings of shutout ball in relief. You don't see that very often.

Cardinals offense explodes in the extras against the Reds, currently at 7 runs. No real significance other than it just cost me money. I had the Boston offense for the week and the 7 run 10th gave St. Louis more runs for the week so I lost to my boss.

Still not as bad as having the Spurs lose today, but still a god awful sports day even with a Sox win. I wish I could hit the reset button.

Oh and f*** the Cardinals.

How about Gerrit Cole? 2-run single in his first at-bat in the majors to go along with 6.1 strong innings. Mark my words, the Pirates are turning into the Rays. Years of drafting high coupled with ownership and management that suddenly gives at least three-quarters of a damn has finally brought them to the brink of respectability. If they don't make the postseason this season, they will next season.
