You can't walk Kevin Cash, but that's a bad error by Teixeira in a big spot. Hughes hasn't been too good today, despite his line, and he definitely doesn't need extra base runners with the heart of the order coming up.

Couple pretty bad things about that inning. It starts with the blooper hit by Blum falling in, which was Swisher's ball, and his bad jump on it cost them. Then Hughes has to put Manzella away, who is a poor hitter, and has killed the Yankees all series. But fine, couple soft hits led to a couple runs, no big deal, just hold them at 7-3.

But that's where Joe really comes up short. The AB with Manzella went so long, and with Hughes well over 100 pitches, he really emptied the tank against him. After failing to retire Manzella, Joe has to pull Hughes, who both physically and emotionally is probably at the end of the road. Instead he leaves him in, and now we have a ball game, with the Yankees needing ten outs from their shaky bullpen.

We need to remember that Hughes is really in his first full season as a starter at the big league level. He has shown incredible stuff and poise to this point, but he is still young and still has a lot to learn. I think the 6th inning was a perfect example of that. A bit more experience gets him to retire Manzella and maybe a bit more poise has him prevent the letup against Cash. Regardless, we expected him to have his ups and downs this yr.

He's overusing that cutter.

Very true, and as teams begin to adjust to his limited repertoire, it's becoming imperative that he improves his cutter and his change-up.

Man, CC is throwing well, but Philly has put together some good ABs and have had some luck on their side. Unfortunate to say the least.

EDIT: And now a defensive mistake by Teixeira, and a terrible decision by CC.

Dual mental lapses by CC in not covering first and then allowing Francisco to steal off him. He's unraveling here, he needs to put it together.

Funny thing is, this is the best CC has looked in a long time, regardless of his line.

Could've helped his pitch economy by going to first and completing the double play.

Yeah, as I noted before, that was a mental error. However, it barely would have made a difference with his pitch count, based on what the next two hitters did.

And CC continues to be really unlucky so far tonight.

Interesting statistic the last time Halladay gave up 3 home run's in a game was against the Yankees and Halladay hadn't given up a home run against a left handed hitter all season untill the 3 he gave up tonight all against lefties

Today just isnt our day. Not too many hard hit balls, the balls we hit are either solo shots or right at the fielders. Burnett had too much velocity, sitting 95+ early and his pitches moved out of the zone. It happens

Burnett got s*** on. I doubt it's because he had too much velocity.

Keeper, I am noticing a trend with Burnett. When he is terrible, it isnt for lack of stuff. His pitches have so much movement that he can have too much stuff and be detrimental to his location. His pitches were moving out of the zone the entire game, making walks plentiful and eventually requiring him to come in with 4 seamers that were crushed. On days he lights up the radar gun with 95-97mph, he seems to struggle IMO. And last night, at least the YES gun had him throwing harder than I have seen all yr.

I fully expected to come home and see a line for Moyer similar to what we did to him last Friday.

A friend of mine who is a Yankee fan was putting the loss on AJ but they should have been able to score enough runs to make up for AJ's performance.

Just a horrendous job by Pettitte. You cannot walk Carlos Ruiz on four pitches, and against someone like Victorino, a two strike pitch cannot be in the strike zone.

Victorino did take Mr Ed deep, and it was a platoon matchup, with the incoming hitter struggling right now, that setup a DP.

Not really that bad of a decision.

Loving me some Joba this season.

And the Rays are losing too. Looking good. This keeps up, and tomorrow I can say....

Another game picked up in the standings for the hottest team in baseball. It's a great time to be a Red Sox fan.
