Figured I would start it since we now only have 161 games left in the season.

Recap from Game 1:

Starting with pitching-

Sabathia had good stuff, just waning control and he got tired right around 80 pitches. Probably not the best idea to have him go over 100 pitches on opening day, especially since he was losing steam in the 5th.

David Robertson added a touch to his fastball and otherwise looked okay

Damaso Marte was wild as hell

Chan Ho Park needs to do something to change the plane of his fastball. It is straight as an arrow. He will be called Homerun Park from now until he proves he can be effective in NY

Joba had some heat and his slider was sick, he just had pretty poor command for game 1.

Onto the offense:

Jeter was solid as usual.

Nick Johnson didnt get a hit, but his OBP was .400 (2 walks), I like that.

Tex looked rusty

ARod had one big hit, thats about it

Cano-Posada-Granderson accounted for 4 of the 6 RBIs.

Swish got on base twice

Gardner is a pest, he saw the most pitches per PA last night on the Yankees, stole home and had two hits.

Overall, 18 baserunners in 9 innings and 7 runs isnt too bad. Now, seeing as game #2 is coming up, I expect the offense to go dormant for the near future and re-emerge in May

I thought Joba looked terrible. Gardner's throw to home was pretty funny.

Joba seemed to hit a wall. In my opinion, he looked good through three batters (Beltre, Drew, and Cameron). It was downhill after that.

As for Park, I also disagree. His two seamer definitely had some action on it. The problem was the location, as Park almost never hit his spots.

Posada is dismal when it comes to keeping the ball in front of him.

Just so everyone knows, Javy Vazquez will pitch poorly tonight because he gave up a grand slam to Johnny Damon in 2004. He just can't handle the pressure!

Posada is dismal when he wears a glove. Period.

And what a beautiful sight it was!

Yankees Lineup:

SS Jeter

DH Johnson

1B Teixeira

3B Rodriguez

2B Cano

C Posada

RF Swisher

LF Thames

CF Granderson

For what he brings to the table, I don't think Gardner is getting enough of an opportunity.

Possibly, but a couple points.

For Gardner, it wasn't a big sample, but he was better against left handed pitching last year. Also, on the turf, I'd rather have his speed in the lineup, in addition to his glove, over Thames.

If the Yankees have their way' date=' they work the pitch count up on Price and get him out after 5, which would get Gardy back in the game[/quote']

Definitely what I'm hoping for. I hope they play another four hour game haha.

And yeah, that's a good point. On Tuesday, I was very pleased with how quickly Joe went back to Gardner after Lester was pulled.

Is Tino Martinez as bad announcing as he was on Baseball Tonight a few years ago?

He's bad, but he seems great doing the game with Paul O'Neill.

Javy looks good tonight with his three off speed pitches, but his fastball command is off, and he paid there.

EDIT: Not really sure what Javy was thinking there going to the fastball on 0-2.

EDIT 2: He has no fastball tonight. It's been the difference.

And that is why Gardner should be in left. It was a bad decision by Joe on Tuesday and it cost them defensively, and the same thing has happened tonight.

Vasquez tried to be fine there on Bartlett. He needs to stop that or the XBH will keep coming.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. He got squeezed a little bit, which didn't help, and then once he got back in the count, he went to the pitch that has been the best for him tonight. He left it out over the plate. I don't think there was anything wrong with his approach.

I'm watching on tv and MLB At-Bat. According to this strike zone, the first two pitches were clear balls, and the pitch Bartlett doubled on was a changeup right down the middle. In my opinion, you gotta go right after a guy like Bartlett, but that's just my opinion.

Gameday has the first two pitches on the border of the strike zone. Regardless, he has struggled with fastball command all night, and he just missed with his change up. There's no way to know, but I'm willing to bet the problem is more in execution than anything else.

Agreed.

Well Javy just had his best inning of the night. His fastball command hasn't been great all night, but it really abandoned him in the fourth. Unfortunately, with the way Price is pitching, and the fact that the Yankees' haven't made him work at all, the one bad inning might do them in.
