Martin the best catcher available. The dropoff after him is pretty noticeable, especially for those who catch every day (not like Mike Napoli). He's still relatively young and is a dynamic offensive player (gets on base, steals, exhibits some power, etc.) Doesn't have the injury concern of a Mauer and has the ability to be a 20/20 producer over the next few years.

Can i ask you why you like fielder over howard? Is it just personal preferance (which i completely understand) or is there something behind it. Because i find you arent typically one to make a call like that just off gut. Also there were two people i was considering along with arod for my pick and howard was one of them, the other was another first baseman that im hoping people forget about. so thats at least two firstbaseman i had above fielder personally

Fielder is younger than howard and puts up a better OBP. I know I'm not who you asked, but if you asked me that's how I'd answer that question.

I think I remember that post. Something about big man syndrome and Boog Powell. I'd take Fielder over Howard as well. Five years is a huge difference in age. You're not going to get much from either of them with the glove, but I'd say Fielder is marginally better at first.

Matt Cain was a fine pick. I'm not completely sold on Soto yet. I'm not saying we're looking at another Rick Wilkins situation... but you never know. And as a catcher I'd say he's average to below average.

Unrelated to anyone who was picked... but honestly, being first or last sucks. I have to sit there and watch everyone who I hope to get fall off the board one by one.

I'm kind of toward the middle here, but it blows being first/last (aside from the whole #1 pick thing) in fantasy drafts because you really have to reach on some guys you otherwise wouldn't be reaching for in other draft positions. Drafting last is teh suck, and I have done that several times.

someone's gotta be at the beginning and end...im not crazy about being second last either

Well, I needed a catcher, and he seemed like the safest pick.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but when drafting outfielders I assume we should be drafting a right fielder, a center fielder, and a left fielder? As opposed to fantasy where it doesn't matter.

My understanding is that you pick three outfielders, regardless of where they play regularly. But obviously if none of your outfielders can conceivably play center field anywhere, people will take that into account when judging your team.

Quentin is my pick because he is only 26 years old and in addition to being a huge power threat within the lineup, plays adequate defense in the OF - he's no butcher.

Good plate discipline, too.

Webb wasn't a pick I'm thrilled about, but I feel like I need an ace-esque starter. He's good for a low 3 ERA and a 1.15 or so WHIP. He is 30, so he probably won't be as sharp when the five years are up.

ill just go ahead and bring up Webb's current shoulder issues. it isnt structural but there was enough concern to visit Birmingham

I might've taken Danks a little too early, but I didn't want anyone else to snatch him first. He was and is the true ace of the White Sox. He's young, fearless, attacks the strike zone, changes speeds well, and will be a work horse. Don't let his rookie campaign fool you: he's an elite pitcher.

I like Danks. My only problem with the pick, and to be honest it's with all pitcher picks this early, is that their shelf life, the window in which they are dominant/elite, seems to be much shorter. Danks, Lincecum, King Felix, were all on my list of pitchers I'd lke to select, but not this early.
