Besides' date=' I've posted here long enough that you guys have an idea how I roll. Did you REALLY think I was going to go for the spotlight-hogs, big-K pitchers and franchise thunderbats?[/quote']

That's the whole fun of the first few rounds:D

Mid to late rounds is where you make or break your team and really show your scouting skills so to speak.

I cannot believe Lincecum actually came my way.

Having followed him ever since he burst onto the scene with the Giants, i expect him to be fully healthy and dominant for at least another 5 seasons, he inmediately becomes the ace of my staff, and he will be near or at the top of the league in nearly every pitching statistical category, hell, he might win the pitching triple crown as early as this year.

I went with B.J. Upton. He's what I call a modern-day five-tool player. While his ability to hit for average can be debated, he is tremendous at getting on-base which is more important than batting average anyway.

Add in the fact that he steals bases with the best of them, has good power, is great defensively and is years away from his peak, it makes him a tremendous player worthy of a first round pick

Upton was a great pick, for all of those reasons. The guy can do it all.

Shields was a very good pick, but I think he would have been available in a later round. He's a guy I wanted, but there are a handful of pitchers I would have taken before him.

There are only two holes that I see in Braun's game: OBP and defense. I expect his OBP to improve over time. Don't know about his defense.

I was really considering taking Upton with the 6th pick, and I actually think he's a better player than Utley. But I decided to go with Utley mainly because you rarely get that kind of production out of a second basemen.

After pulling a dumbass with my first second round pick, I took Josh Hamilton.

I know it might be a stretch, but if he keeps it together, and continues to play in Texas, he could put up monster numbers.

Mcann, catcher is the most difficult position to find offense at, and a strong central line always equals awesomeness.

Went with the guy I probably should have taken in the first round. Greinke seems to have put his problems behind him and is really making the most of his talent, just coming into his prime, and is one of the most dominant, talented, and unappreciated starting pitchers in the major leagues.

I now have Greinke and Shields, as strong a 1-2 punch of frontline starters as you could ask for.

Kemp may have been a reach in the 2nd round, but he's got 30/30 guy with an .850+ OPS and excellent D in center written all over him in the future. Might not be until next year or so, but we are playing for the next 5 years, and I didn't want to risk someone else reaching.

Josh Hamilton and BJ Upton are pretty big risks at this point, IMO.

Upton less than Hamilton.

I agree. But I decided to take the risk anyways. He fits the mold of what I'm trying to build my team like. Believe it or not, there is a method to my mayhem :D

Like Shields, bit of a stretch. But major upside.

Kemp like you say might be a small stretch. But he looks legit IMO.

We'll see how consistent the method is. I'm noticing a trend, and I'll let you know if you slip up.

I love the Kemp pick, but like Shields in the 1st I think Grienke is a stretch in round 2. He's been fantastic so far this season but I am not convinced he's turned the corner to the point where he can help anchor a rotation for the next five years.

I will never question the physical goods, it's between the ears that I question.

:D Ya it looks as though I'm just filling the OF, but there are certain types of players I'm looking for, and those two happen to be very high on that list, regardless of position.

BTW Kilo, this whole idea was a good one, I'm glad I signed up:thumbsup:

I like this idea too. If we are all still here and want to do it again in 5 years, it would be interesting to add another wrinkle. Before we draft teams, we draft parks, so that your team draft has an extra layer of consideration.

Good rationale. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a boner for Kemp.

I actually think Greinke is a good pick. It looks like he's put it all together. Like people said, he may still be a head case. But other than that, what's not to like about him?

Not a bad idea.

Maybe we can do that once the teams are drafted?

I don't see why you would question that. Greinke has been the real deal since mid 2007 at least. Sure he had some problems in the past when he was rushed to the big leagues much too fast and found himself struggling as a result, but they haven't surfaced in over a year and a half of steady continuous play. It's no more of a concern than Lincecum's ligaments I think. And there's no denying, as you mention yourself, that Greinke should be a top rounder on stuff alone.

I'm not any more concerned about Greinke's head than I am about Daniel Bard's. Or for that matter, Clay Buchholz's

Youkiis is the f***ing man, but I'm not sure that was such a good pick. Five years from now, he'll be 35.

I agree and disagree.

Youkilis will be 35 but at the same time he plays a position that is not very strenuous defensively.

If Anderson comes up to play 3B, however, it could impact Youkilis's production over the next five years.

IMO - this is a gamble and probably a reach for this early of a pick.

I considered that and all, but I expect him to rake for quite a while. I think he will still be lights out (both offensively and defensively) for several more seasons. It's a bit of a gamble, but not a huge one, IMO.

As much as i dislike A-Rod, i dont think there is any question he as at least 5 more elite years in him. Plus i figured the awesomeness of pedroia might cancel out a douchebag like him

ARod and Mauer are excellent picks for value at this point in the draft, I'm surprised they lasted this long.

Mauer, IMO, should have been the first C taken.
