I was definitely in the need of some raw power, thus the Ankiel pick.

I think I've got a solid balance of offense and defense in my outfield right now. All of Dukes, Ankiel and Granderson are competent on both sides of the baseball, with Granderson and Dukes also offering speed into the bargain.

You'll note that in my lineup, Ankiel's in left. I'm aware of those too. He's raw but he does have pretty decent range and a fine arm.

Basically, anyone you pick at this point will have some drawbacks. I think Ankiel's rewards are worth his risks at this pont.

its about time you address your rotation' date=' BSN[/quote']

Ya I know. I Kinda aimed my rotation towards the future. It's not like there is a ton of premier talent left out there for SP. But Harang is solid and even though he is 30 or 31, I think he is a great value this late. I debated taking him earlier, but passed on him for younger talent. But I'm glad to see him slip to me here this late.

Just picked Marmol and Ramon Ramirez.

I'm not sure how much further they would have fallen, so this may be again me trying to guess where the draft is going, cause that's what my f***ing stupid pick dictates. I feel this is one of the most over looked parts of a team is the bullpen. Both guys are fairly young, already performing, and their prime of their career are the next 5 years.

Love the Marmol pick, find the RR pick interesting but I think he's a good bet to be a very solid reliever over the next five years.

Looking at your team, I maybe would have looked for a 1B/3B with one of those picks...but again, can't question the talent of the two guys you picked.

the only problem I have with relievers is that theyre so damn inconsistent for the most part. Marmol has a sick K/9 though

I was thinking about going a corner infielder, but honestly I wanted to get a leg up on getting relievers because I think it's pretty important to have a solid bullpen.

If I was in the middle of the rounds my team would be so much different because I wouldn't have to let my pick position dictate who I want to pick.

Yeah, that's how I feel as well. You usually go into a season already knowing if your starting pitching is good or not. With the bullpen, you never really know.

But Marmol's stuff is sick. Especially that slider. Also has a lot of movement on his fastball. His control sucks, though. And I'm not sure how he'll handle the closer's role. I haven't seen Ramirez pitch much, but he seems like one of the safer picks to shore up the pen.

yea but I feel like I kinda painted myself into a corner feeling like I needed another middle of the order bat and Ramirez seemed like the best available option. But I also feel like I've got enough pop up and down my lineup that the dip in his SLG won't hurt much

I went with Edwin Encarnacion . I'll be honest I don't know a ton about the guy. I read a few scouting reports and took a look at his stats. He seemed to be a fairly young solid 3B, with some upside. And the cherry on top of this Sundae, is he plays in Cincy. One of the leagues more hitter friendly ballparks(a minus for my Harang selection though for the time being).

The one aspect of his game I'm not aware too much of is his Glove. Is it any good? Or is this guy gonna need to switch positions?

When are people gonna realize we aren't taking ballparks into account?

This is the part of the draft that's becoming very interesting - we are no longer drafting BPA but on need and its pretty interesting to see some of these picks.

How can you not account for which ballpark they play the majority of their games at? It's going to effect there production, which in turn will effect others opinions of the player, which will effect their argument for or against the player. The point behind this whole deal.<_>

I'm not the message board expert, but does this constitute a "fail" reference?:dunno:

exactly, so if Encarnacion plays in a hitter's park, it negatively affects people's opinion on the pick. Especially when you look at his splits, which drop off fairly significantly on the road. So I don't see why you say him playing in Cincy is a "cherry on top of the sundae"

There are a whole truckload of stats that adjust for park effect. These will be the ones most will use in their justifications for their team and/or critique of yours, so prepare yourself for that.

More importantly, despite being told that park impact is to be ignored, you keep bringing it up for most of your picks. If you want to continue to use it in your methodology, then fine. But it's pretty clear that any justification you offer involving the park is going to be ignored here, so it's a pointless endeavor that you might as well just quit. The more you bring it up, the more it looks like your favorite flavor is window.

You can bring up the park the guy plays in in the sense of me saying "I like Jack Cust cause he puts up solid power numbers despite playing in a cavern" but you can't justify picks as if you're drafting the park along with the player

If you wanted to draft Miguel Cabrera and make him your catcher, more power to you, but you have to understand all of the things that comes with (ie your pitching staff will suffer tremendously).

Things like park factors will not be of significance, think of making a team how they would perform in a perfectly neutral ballpark.

Considering what's left, it isn't terrible but like I said earlier, his home/away splits aren't great. But he's young, he could improve.
