I don't really need to bat Butler above 6th unless he shows he's worthy of it.

That's why you have him batting 3rd?

For DipreG - hitting McCann 8th is an interesting choice - rationale?

I like the Francona model of alternating lefty-righty or righty-lefty hitters on my lineup, it's a godsend on close and late situations.

I expect to pick up a suitable right-handed hitting DH or CF in the following rounds, thus finishing what i wiew as an extremely productive lineup.

Point of clarification: Pablo Sandoval has yet to play catcher in the major leagues. Is it really apropos to pencil him in at that position under the circumstances? Wouldn't it be like me sticking Billy Butler in left field?

1. Sandoval has played a dozen games at catcher in the majors and has only played about a full season, so you're wrong there.

2. Sandoval was a pretty solid minor league catcher with an outstanding CS% and the only reason he doesn't play the position more in the majors is cause the Giants' best hitter is a catcher.

3. Kilo said to post only once in the lineup/rotation thread. Way to go, sport.

4. I'm still waiting to see your reasoning in batting Butler 3rd when you said you don't need to bat him higher than 6th.

Because I don't have my LF and DH sorted out yet and otherwise we'd have to have Granderson batting third.

ok, and why don't you think Sandoval can be, at the very least, a serviceable major league catcher over the next 5 years?

and going back to yesterday, why am I a hypocrite for arguing that Upton is more proven in the big leagues than Butler?

Doiji, my man, you're failing.Hard.

Back up now and keep your dignity intact because there's no way you're winning this argument.

I don't know Sandoval from Adam. My question was because the guy has played very limited big league catcher and there's a lot of prospects who "can" play a position in theory but wind up not doing it for one reason or another. One example would be Pedroia at short) or Youkilis, who while he can play third base has never been called upon to do so fulltime.

I thought Sandoval might be one of those, especially since most people who carry "C-1B" on their resume cards in the minors tend to have some flaw in their game behind the plate. That's why I used the analogy of Butler and left field (wherer Butler has similarly limited big league experience). was basically asking how creative you can be squeezing those guys into the lineup.

I never saw him catch in the minors either but from the stats I looked at and the scouting reports I read, he can hold his own. He allowed 23 PBs in 176 minor league games with a caught 38% of guys trying to steal off him.

Scouts say he can be a serviceable catcher and would be SF's catcher if they didn't have Molina.

And if he's a terrible catcher BS21's team will suffer accordingly. This is his draft construction and he can place Sandoval anywhere he wants.

That's... a lot of passed balls.

The thing about Sandoval is that most prospects who have a chance to be a fulltime catcher are catchers fulltime in the minors, even those like Brandon Inge or Mike Sweeney who wind up playing significant time in other positions at some point in their careers.

Sandoval is an exception to that rule, which is a concern with him defensively because he's had limited reps (as you said, little more than 1 full season of games behind the dish as a pro) and runs the risk of becoming exposed. Or of sticking at whatever position they play him in the meantime if his flaws behind the plate are a concern to the team (which is kind of what happened to Inge).

I guess that answers my question. Put any player in any position but be prepared to have them suck if they aren't prepared properly to play there.

Yup you can stick Miguel Cabrera at C or put Wily Taveras as your DH - your team is your team and you live with the advantages and disadvantages.

my point is that there is enough evidence to make a legitimate argument that he can be at least an average catcher defensively over the next 5 years considering he's the full-time catcher on my hypothetical team

does russel martin bat 1st for the dodgers? batting a catcher first is unconventional to say the least.

Who cares? Martin hits, gets on base, and is a lot faster than your average catcher.

well i mean i might end up putting pedroia leadoff for the same reason, but in the perfect world i'd like him 2nd, i was just wondering why his first choice would be martin leadoff

WB' date=' batting Wieters 5th despite not having a single major league AB?[/quote']

None of my guys are in their final order for sure right now. Maybe Wright is. I'll know better once I have most of my position players drafted.
