I have such a hard time giving a rotation credit with so many guys having not pitched a single major league inning as if it's a foregone conclusion that they'll automatically do well as soon as they hit the show

I'm talking about future rotations. His rotation has three guys who will be in many Top 10 prospect lists next year. I know they haven't proven anything, that's why they're prospects.

Yeah, I can definitely think of a few guys you could have taken before Cordero. Who are considerably younger.

Yeah that's puzzling' date=' a pretty terrible pick right now.[/quote']

He's a proven closer, and he's 34. We got guys closing right now in baseball that are older than Cordero will be in 5 years.

Cordero's wild, homer prone, and streaky.

Those are 3 traits you don't want the anchor of your bullpen to have.

He's homer prone? In 2007 he gave up a total of 4 HRs in 63 innings. Last year he gave up 6 in 70 innings. If his 2007 IP was tripled (i.e. to that of a good starter), he would have been on pace to give 12 homers. Double his 2008 IP, and he also tracks for 12. This year he has yet to surrender one. Does that really classify as homer prone?

Bottom line, he does the job.

At a heart attack rate, yes, but i'll agree he gets it done.

How Cordero gets picked before guys like K-Rod and JJ Putz?

Grammar epic fail.

Its not like we're putting together a one man bullpen either. Cordero gets it done. He's proven. We have guys closing today in the bigs that are older now than Cordero will be in five years.

I think that's about as far as Rickie Weeks was likely to fall, 10-15 HR power, good speed, and a nice OBP combine for a very good leadoff package, and while Weeks is still developing a little defensively he does get the job done at 2B. Guy's basically Brian Roberts except younger and... you know... not so hideously overrated. He's also got very high breakout potential IMHO if he gets his act together.

I keep going back to the draft thread and scanning again and again because I can't BELIEVE that guys like Orlando Hudson and Howie Kendrick were picked while Weeks was still in the board.

and how many more wrist injuries does he need before you start to doubt his power potential?

and btw, the second baseman im about to take (provided he falls) is very arguably better than Weeks

Frankly, with Weeks, he doesn't need to show much more power than he already has, with his OBP-speed combo. As long as he doesn't actively regress he'll be quite a serviceable 2B. The power upside is pure bonus. You do want a decent utility man behind him however (a Maicer Izturis type should cover it) for the days when he won't be healthy.

As for another 2B who's left, I'd have to search a bit but the only guy I can think of who's still on the board and worth much at all is Alberto Callaspo. Who I was going to take if Weeks didn't fall to me. Maybe Jose Lopez too but his OBP is putrid as a rule

I took Beckham. After all was said and done I wasn't thrilled with my current 3B situation. This seemed like a pick with promise. From what I've heard/read he's on the fast track towards the Majors.

Yeah Beckham is in AA Birmingham now' date=' really wish I could have seen him play. From what I've read he should be in AAA very soon, I wouldn't be shocked by a September call-up.[/quote']

Speaking of White Sox third basemen, watch out Josh Fields. Cafardo notes Gordon Beckham was promoted from Double-A to Triple-A and moved to third base
