does russel martin bat 1st for the dodgers? batting a catcher first is unconventional to say the least.

a catcher stealing 18 bases is unconventional too

I would've picked Shin-Soo Choo, but I'm concerned about his situation with the mandatory 2-year military service before he's 30 in Korea. He might be exempt from it, but that hasn't happened yet.

Choo posted a .946 OPS in 94 games last season and is entering his prime years. He destroys LHP and is still competent enough against RHP to earn a full-time gig.

We'll see on the military service thing, I forgot about that but still think he's a good enough player to warrant that kind of risk.

Rasmus is a good pick. He's got power and speed. Don't know how much playing time he'll get, though, as the Cardinals' 4th outfielder. Posey was a beast in college. Zumaya is a talent to be sure, but he spends more time on the DL than on the field.

Zumaya is good bla bla bla upside bla bla bla 102 MPH bla bla bla but good enough to be the 5th reliever taken? with that medical record?

Russell Martin led off last year quite a bit for the Dodgers after they got Manny and Furcal was still injured.

Point of order: If you need to have a player change positions, just let me know here and I'll make the change in the picks table.

I went with Brandon Wood because the guy has nothing left to prove in the minors, and if Mike Scoscia ever stops dicking around and gives this guy his shot he's going to be very successful.

20+ HR potential from my SS? Yes please.

Yeah, there are sexier pitchers out there with better stuff, but John Lannan is a quality lefty who is "capable of logging major innings" (according to his scouting report). I like his frame, his age, and his sweeping yacker. Definitely not an ace, but certainly a serviceable mid-rotation starter.

How guys like Zumaya and Jenks are taken ahead of a guy like Joe Nathan is really beyond me.

Age matters less for closers, but Nathan is 34 whereas Jenks is 28. For that reason, I would've taken Jenks ahead of him as well. Not Zumaya, though.

Nathan is better than Jenks but he's also 34 years old and had some shoulder concern this spring. Jenks is only 28 and is just a tier below guys like Nathan. I wanted a closer who I thought could perform at the same level for the next 5 seasons.

You are right about Zumaya though. He sucks.

Ubaldo Jimenez is a very nice pick. The only reason I didn't pick him is he has terrible command and sometimes bad mechanics, which makes him inconsistent. Makes a lot of guys swing and miss, has electric stuff, and hardly ever gives up the long ball. Had he been around for my next turn, I wouldn't have hesitated to pick him up. But IMO Lannan was the safer pick. Plus, he's a lefty and I wanted a lefty as my 4th starter.

again, dont know s*** about the guy, but his scouting reports sounded pretty good and i thought i could use another young lefty in my rotation. so now my starting staff is complete

I was definitely in the need of some raw power, thus the Ankiel pick.

I think I've got a solid balance of offense and defense in my outfield right now. All of Dukes, Ankiel and Granderson are competent on both sides of the baseball, with Granderson and Dukes also offering speed into the bargain.
