Beckett had an off day, but I like the fact that he was willing to pitch inside. Batters will understand that they cannot dig in against him if he continues to pitch that way. I still expect Josh to have a great season for us this year. Ironic, isn't it? Today our bullpen really stepped up.

Fred the bullpen has even looked good the 2 games before yesterday. Theres still 3 weeks left of spring training, they should hae it sorted out by opening day

Well it appears that Pedroia's 2nd error was caused by a bad feed from Alex Cora

If it was such a terrible feed Cora should have gotten the error.

Anyone notice Coco's mini-fro and his unbelievably high pants?

EDIT: Maybe the pants aren't so high...whatever.

umm it was even obvious to the Tigers' announcers that Beckett wasnt head hunting. It was an off day when he couldnt get a good feel on any of his pitches.

If Beckett wanted to hit Magglio, he wouldve done it with a fastball, not a curveball

I'm watching Nesn on MLB.com and it seems fine. It's the Mlb.com stream that's pissing me off. Either the 700kb stream is not in place for Spring Training or it's complete ********.

D-Mat looking human. How many people wanna put him on the next plane back?

I liked how in the 3rd, he stranded a runner at 3rd with 1 out. Aces do stuff like that. Jus' sayin'.

Agreed. I have no concerns that, if this were a regular season game, he would come out and start putting Zeros up on the board for a few more innings.

It is inevitable that a pitcher will give up runs in MLB baseball. Inevitable. I"m glad he is being faced with some adversity in 'practice' games.

Dont worry bout it. I am watching Hughes have a rough inning while still throwing some seriously nice pitches. Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat.

No, no. With Hughes it is a sign that he's never going to be an adequate MLB pitcher. With Matsuzaka its just that he didn't sleep well last night.

You should just give up on Hughes right now jacksonian. :D

DiceK was nasty in the first, but really struggled with his command after that. This is just spring training so it doesnt matter what so ever. I also don't think he is dialing it up the way he can. I am not worried what so ever. The first inning change up to Gibbons reminded me so much of Pedros changeup.

I saw what I needed to see from Matsuzaka today. He is starting to use more pitches and that changeup is his best pitch. Clearly did not have the fastball today but thats the beauty of spring training and the fact its March 11th. I still don't think we have seen the splitter and thats a great out-pitch for him. Once that velocity is pumped up to 93-95mph consistantly...the rest of his pitches will do serious damage.

Meanwhile, I question the batting order but thats nothing to get involved with until the season starts.

I just saw some reports about Dice-K's start today and they say stuff like, "Matsuzaka gets hammered" and "Bad Day for Dice-K"... his start today wasn't even that bad, he gave up 4 runs I believe, it's spring training and it's only 4 runs... and 3 of those runs scored because of a throwing error...

Yeah, People can get crazy over meaningless spring. I remember a game in 2000 in ST, where Pedro gave up 6 runs in 6 innings. DiceK got his work in today, I mean he is not going to crank it up for a ST game, he will be fine.

In other news, Joel Pinero didn't suck in his two innings of work today. He gave up two hits and no runs and struck out 1. He was hitting between 91-92 during his entire outing. I was actually impressed with his stuff today.

Riverside, even though Beckett and Dice-K have had rough outings back to back I am not concerned about our rotation at all; it is the bullpen that still concerns me. There has been some improvement down there and, yes, it is still early in the running, but in my opinion I think it would be wise for the brain trust to start whittling down the large amount of suspects trying to win that closer's job. If we could get it down to three or four we might actually be able to settle on one person a lot sooner. I would like this settled before Opening Day.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Hey guys, this is for all of you (and you, too VA Fan). I can hardly believe it happenend. I am standing waiting for Mass to begin this morning when my parish priest walks by me and says something like Dodgers have class, or something like that. It happened so fast I didn't really hear what he said. I thought he was kidding me because he knows what a rabid Red Sox fan I am. However, at the end of the Mass, after he tells the congregation to "go and serve The Lord", he stops for a second by my pew and tells the "The Red Sox are a bunch of bums." He wasn't smiling at all; he looked angry. When those words sunk in I got angry, too, and considered confronting him but thought better of it. I don't like the thought of arguing with man of God. However, the more I've thought of it the more ticked off I've become and my wife said I should go and confront him as soon as possible, seeing how mad this has made me. I could only surmise that he came out with this intemperate remark because of what happened yesterday, which to me was a pile of crap. Beckett hit two batters with a breaking ball, and it was the Tigers who played target practice with J.D. Drew. Just would like some opinions on this. Do I respect his position as priest and just forget it, or do what my emotions are telling me to and go and let him know that I didn't take kindly to his remarks. I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

He was probably kidding. Besides, it's all in good fun with sports. Don't take it so seriously.
