Donnely 2 runs in the 7th with one out. Our bullpen is pathetic, Theo needs to make a deal because this can be a very good team, we just need help out there.

MANNYHOF, try to chill out a bit. It is only Spring Training.` There!!!! I said it to somebody else instead of somebody telling that to me. Manny, we're in agreement with our bullpen, it is the only thing that could sink us this year aside from injuries. We do have some time left before panic city hits, but I'm starting to wonder who we have in our stable of relievers who could step up and give us the innings we need. I think Timlin, Okajima and Donnelly will be fine; I'm not sure of any of the others and we still have to find a closer.

I will tell you one thing. Spring Training or not, that was a helluva way to end the game today. Stay healthy and get our bullpen up to speed and we can have a terrific team this year.

Okajima gives up a 3 run homer, Mets tied it 5-5. After Wake and Pap pitched so well too.

Glad it's only ST.

"Chill Out Fred here VA. At least our starters seem to be doing a helluva job. Wake gave up four hits but nothing that hurt him and Papelbon was lights out again. You get the feeling that if we get our bullpen straightened out we can be a helluva team? Why does it seem we never have a solid relief corps? Is that Theo's Achilles heel?

Glad you got a good laugh out of it Crespo. I am a little concerned whether you were laughing with it or at it. Getting this worked up over Spring Training is a reach; that I know. You young 20 and 30 year olds, however, have a hard time figuring out old war horses like me. I recall telling a few of you how I didn't find the Red Sox until close to seven years ago, and some of us old timers can be a little over the top with teams we love. Besides, I think I owe this to the Red Sox since for some stupid reason it took me so long to realize this was the team I should have been rooting for in the first place. No excuses.

I will admit it, I am very freaked out about our bullpen. Name a quality guy other than maybe Timlin, and Maybe Donnely.

The improved rotation will cover up a lot of bullpen deficiencies, but they don't have one very reliable quality guy out there to finish games.

I am going to stir some conversation. I think the Red Sox FO realistically could make three moves that would transform the 2007 team (and possibly the 2008 & 2009 teams) into a total steamrolling powerhouse. Here goes:

1. Move Tavarez, Lowell and MDC to Colorado for Helton

2. Move Crisp and Bucholz or Bowden to Seattle for Ichiro (sign Ichiro for 3 years plus an option)

3. Move WMP and Hansen for Cordero.

Let the fun begin.

roster would look something like this...

Lineup

1. Ichiro--CF

2. Lugo--SS

3. Ortiz--DH

4. Manny--LF

5. Helton—1B

6. Drew--RF

7. Youk--3B

8. Varitek--C

9. Pedroia—2B

Bench

10. Hinske

11. Cora

12. Mirabelli

13. Ochoa???

Rotation

14. Schilling

15. Matsuzaka

16. Papelbon

17. Beckett

18. Wakefield

Bullpen

19. Snyder

20. Romero

21. Piniero

22. Okajima

23. Donnelly

24. Timlin

25. Cordero

I wouldn't do the Ichiro deal, but I would trade for Helton or Cordero in a heart beat. See, we don't have a 1st base prospect waiting in the wings by a long shot, so going the expensive route isn't a big deal, but Ichiro's game is predicated on his speed and that is going to be in decline over the next few years, I'd say probably big time. He'll still be good, .295 - .310 with good on base like always, but he is going to command more money than is worth when you consider that Ellsbury could probably put up similar numbers in '08. Giving up that kind of pitching for him, and your guess is pretty relaxed, I think it would take both Bowden and Bucholz, and thats way too much in talent than is worth and then when you consider money its just way out.

Ellsbury will make nothing and have a similar impact. I

I personally would give up anything for Cordero, I think he's great.

I think Ichiro will be very productive for at least 3 years. When Ellsbury is ready, Ichiro can move back to RF.

Didnt JD Drew sign a contract for 5 years? Just wondering

IMO guys it would hurt Jacoby Ellsbury's development if he were to spend 3+ years in the minors

If the team is interested in taking on Helton's contract, then they should decline to have money come with him and ask for Fuentes in return. Lowell, Tavarez, and Hansen for all of Helton's contract and Fuentes. Getting cash relief from Colorado means little to a team like Boston, and that money does them no good this year since all the FAs are signed. While I love our pitching looking forward (next 3-4 years), the window to win with the two-headed monster on offense is going to start closing soon.

Getting the BP figured out will definitely get things going right for this team. Three weeks left in ST. Theo constantly confuses me.

XM radio isn't carrying either game today, so I'm bummed about that. They aren't broadcasting another Sox game until 3/10.

I bit the bullet and signed up for Direct TV, I get that installed 3/17. Sounds like the deal could be announced as early as today per Eric Wilber of the Globe. Having NESN will be great!

No bullpen runs allowed. Nice. Looks like we get to find out if Fred is bipolar ("THEY SUCK" - "THEY'RE THE BEST") or never pleased ("Well the bullpen was good today, but..."). I'm not sure which way to vote right now.

Especially when you go all the way and say it like his countrymen would, then you'd have:
