  1. Thats actually not a bad point about Crawford. Certainly puts his response to ask Tek in a new light, for me anyway.
  2. and Ortiz claims he didn't know about the positive even though it's been reported that every player who tested positive was informed by MLB. unnecessary comment.
  3. to echo another poster's thoughts, I think the only reason the union in conjunction with MLB is coming out now to backup Ortiz (instead of ARod) and try to cast doubt on any future leaks is 1) Ortiz is simply more liked by fans, players, media, etc. than ARod, 2) it's the last bullet they have to counter the drip drip drip effect of leaking one name or two every few months. I'm thankful in part that they're doing this now and not before ARod's name came out because undoubtedly ARod would have denied everything and played the Ortiz excuse.
  4. Don't see how it's any different than what Pettite said, other than that Andy admitted to taking HGH and Ortiz denying he took any steroids.
  5. Probably not good enough to convince those outside of Boston who have convicted him already (including me), but most likely good enough so that fans in Boston who have an issue with this won't feel as icky rooting for him. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4385699
  6. we picked up Gaudin. I assume he's going to take mitre's spot, who has been Smoltzesque in his futility.
  7. I'll ignore the salad comment from your earlier thread and point out to you that Gom's specific point was about the playoffs. Gom also had already conceded 2000, so I don't see the reason for bringing that up.
  8. Actually, Gom's mostly right about the championships thing. There was always a tense relationship between Posada and Girardi until Girardi went to the Cubs in 2000. Posada got the majority (a very slight one) of the bats, I believe, but the general consensus was that the pitching staff had more confidence in Girardi at the plate than Posada. Plus, from what i remember, Girardi was a MUCH better situational hitter than Posada. Anyone who has watched Posada's patented rally killing "GIDP with 2 men on and noone out" the past deacde or so understands what I'm talking about.
  9. Dunno why he'd reject it again. SD is clearly in tank mode.
  10. http://www.impawards.com/2002/posters/derailed.jpg
  11. A player from your fave team gets traded to your second fave team...
  12. I voted F because I felt like it. The VMart trade was a good pickup. I'm puzzled by the Kotchman deal, like some folks here. I'd go with a B.
  13. I was gonna wonder they made a move and then noticed that they're only like 3 games off the wild card. Wow, NL is kinda weak this year.
  14. that depends on the missus and the new squirt that we just had a few weeks ago.
  15. We've all seen Big Love.
  16. Jonathan Mayo has lost all credibility if he actually tweeted that.
  17. He plays a number of different positions if I'm correct, but he'll stick around and Ransom gets sent down when gardner comes back up?
  18. I'd go with Martinez at the 4 or 5 spot.and bump Bay or Ortiz down for now. Bay's been struggling lately hasn't he?
  19. I wouldn't do Bucholz for Martinez. i mean, the guy threw a no hitter. Martinez is a 30 year old whose catching days are definetely behind him. I'd say he's no more than strictly a DH at this point. If on the other hand, it was Masterson and Bowden, then I'd think it would be a better deal. VMart has an excellent team friendly contract so Clay might be the cornerstone of the deal.
  20. Their payroll is now something like $27M after the deal. They have 6 players who make over $1M with the highest being $2.5M, while 14 players make less than $450K. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/salaries?team=pit Meanwhile, their revenue sharing check came out to $27M. Why does Pittsburgh even have a team at this point? http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09200/984970-63.stm
  21. The approach I take to guys like Frank Thomas whose fans feel are unfairly lumped in with those caught cheating is "too frigging bad". Alleged clean players like Thomas are as responsible for the steroids era as those who were caught cheating. I'm sure he knew what was going on, he shoulda come out and said something. He chose not to and stood by the union.
