How funny is it that the Stadium fans are calling for curtain calls for ARod? It's so contrived (due to the fact that they were booing him two days ago) that it has to make you laugh.

Well, I know what you mean, but to say the least, every single Mets fan in the stadium were booing him, and there were A LOT of Mets fans there, so it mighta sounded like we were booing, but most of us were cheering

Nice try. Or, are you going to blame the Mets fans for when he got boo'ed against the Braves, Marlins, Guardians, et al?

A-Rod has 2 homers and 7 RBI in a 9 run win, why am I not surprised. Stop this best 3rd baseman ******** until he hits 2 homers in a 6-4, or 7-6 win, or something like that.

I am sorry Yanks fans.. Bases loaded..with no outs, in the 3rd inning,...against a TERRIBLE pitcher, is not a pressure packed situation. When A-rod does this agains the Sox..vs. a Schilling/Beckett/Papelbon...in a TIGHT Game...with something on the line..come talk to me. Soler is terrible and should only be starting for the Mutts.

Let me also add...the Yankees are the most despicible and bandwaggonning fans in sports.. They get 70-80 mill more to spend..outspend everyone for A-rod and everyone else they want..yet still start crying about Cashman going out and getting Abreu or Carlos Lee.. What a bunch of f***ing petulent, doochebags they ALL are.

 This of course sounds like a hog wash of a trade rumor, but for whatever reason, mlbtraderumors.com is sticking by their source

Now There's A Trade Rumor

This is a hell of a trade rumor, and it'd be wrong not to pass it along. According to the blog Bleed Cubbie Blue:

"The Cubs are reportedly "in discussions" with the Yankees for a deal in which the principals would be Aramis Ramirez...and Alex Rodriguez...This deal, if it happens, might also include Jacque Jones, and other lesser players including prospects on both sides.

This same source told me that the White Sox are "close" to acquiring Andruw Jones from the Braves; the price would be Brian Anderson and young pitching. That deal would also make sense for both sides.

If the A-Rod to the Cubs deal happens, also expect Todd Walker to be moved (maybe to the Tigers), and at that point A-Rod moves back to SS, Ronny Cedeno to 2B, and the Cubs get a placeholder 3B until they can either sign one or trade for one in the offseason."

Just to reiterate, all of the above comes courtesy of Bleed Cubbie Blue. My own personal feeling is that the rumor did indeed originate from a legitimate source. Now let's take a closer look.

As you may know, A-Rod's contract deserves a webpage unto itself. As far as I can tell, the Yankees, or any other team, would owe him $16MM annually through 2010. Based on projections, that's pretty close to fair value.

Aramis Ramirez was given the unfortunate ability to opt out of his current deal and become a free agent after this season. Even if 2006 is an off-year, I think he could top the three years, $33.5MM he's owed in the deal. 1060west sums it up: Ramirez will probably test the market given the weak class at the position.

As for the other rumor - Jones would certainly be a sweet pickup for the White Sox. Brian Anderson has been terrible this year, but he was the organization's best prospect entering the 2005 season according to Baseball America. The Sox have some decent if not spectacular pitching prospects, so this one isn't out of the realm of possibility. Plus, there's always Brandon McCarthy.

It will be interesting to see if this one picks up enough steam to catch the eye of the Chicago print media. They will undoubtedly dismiss it as an Internet rumor and not credit BCB as the source.

No, but coming off the walk-off game, It may have seemed like we were booing him, while in fact, we weren't

He hit a grand slam while we were DOWN a couple of runs. Watch the games or don't talk.

Don't even start that bull, if anything, it is MORE of a pressure situation, because if he doesn't come up big here against a rookie pitcher, then he's going to be booed more than in any previous game. Not only that, but it's a game against the mets, and besides a red sox game, there can't be any more pressure.

Also, I didn't know Yankee fans had a say in who the team picks up in the offseason, so I don't know what that argument is for. I haven't heard any Yankee fans complaining about picking up Abreu or Lee either, unless we trade Hughes in the process. I think most people would only complain if that were to happen.

Wanna see something really bizarre?

I was looking at Jaret Wrights' game by game log on MLB.com, because the MLB.com article about Interleague said that he had the only gamewinning hit by an AL pitcher. I was sure he didnt, and that his only RBI came in the 5-0 win at Philidelphia, and was in fact a game winning sac fly, not a hit. I was right. Anyways, when looking at the stat list, notice that not only did he throw the EXACT SAME number of pitches in May AND June, he threw the SAME amount for strikes.

The odds of that happening have to be astronomical.

I learned something tonight....the strike zone now extends from the letters on the uniform to the batter's shoes.

C.B. Bucknor is the biggest joke of an umpire I have ever seen. I thought Angel Hernandez was bad but this guy flat out sucks. That said the Yankees should have murdered Sowers. It felt like the Yankees hit rockets but right at people. Oh well lost chance to move up and gain a game on the Sox.

A third inning pressure at bat? against a guy that was melting down? I thought the definition of pressure at-bats according to the statistics guys meant 7th inning and later.

BTW: When are the Yankees going to end this 3B experiment with ARod. He is clearly out of position. He should be playing SS instead of the prima dona with no range. Tonight Boone sneaked a ball past him up the middle that a SS with range would have been able to put in his pocket. Nick Green is a minor leaguer and should not be at 2B. He's a good fielder, but (with the exception of last night) he's an automatic out. Jeter should be at 2B with ARod at SS and Phillips at 3B until Cano comes back. When Cano comes back, he should play 3B. I love the fact that the Yankees just refuse to improve their defense, when they could do it without making a roster move.

Just a random question:

Since we're talking about umpires, wasn't McClullen (sp?) voted by the players as the best umpire that manages the plate? I forget if I heard that somewhere or what, but I never once saw someone second guess his calls. It was nice to watch when we played the Mets.

He is without a doubt the best umpire. Another terrible umpire that I know is Joe West.

After reading the last few posts in this thread, only one thing comes to mind. Is it possible to change my username to something totally bitchin' like YankeesAreDefication or NewYorkTrouserBiscuit, because RedSoxPoop has really shown me the light when it comes to creative names that label the oppenent as some sort of sewage. Whatever the mods can do to help me in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Today's a big day. Besides being our nation's and George Steinbrenner's birthday, today marks the 67th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's historic farewell address to baseball.

http://artletics.com/images/baseball_prints_gehrig_farewell.jpg

Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about a bad break I got. Yet today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth. I have been to ballparks for seventeen years and I have never received anything but kindness and encouragement from you fans. Look at these grand men. Which of you wouldn’t consider it the highlight of his career just to associate with them for even one day? Sure I’m lucky. Who wouldn’t have considered it an honor to have known Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball’s greatest empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow, Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today, Joe McCarthy? Sure, I'm lucky. When the New York Giants, a team you would give your right arm to beat and vice versa, sends you a gift, that’s something. When everybody down to the groundskeepers and those boys in the white coats remember you with trophies, that’s something. When you have a father and mother who work all their lives so that you can have an education and build your body, it's a blessing. When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed, that's the finest I know. So I close by saying that I might have been given a bad break, but I've got an awful lot to live for. Thank you.
