Fat Ponson is a Yankee....YEEESSSS!!!!!!!!

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2518391

woohooo

Ponson's last 3 seasons has seen his ERA above 5, and opposing batting avg above .300

He had a 5.24 ERA in the NL Central... now hes moving back to the AL East in a pennant race for the Yankees

18 games vs Boston (3-10, 6.37 ERA) opposing .318 avg

8 games at Fenway (2-4, 6.46 ERA) opposing .326 avg

I'm hoping this is just a bandage to help the broken arm until Cashman can complete a deal for an actual major league pitcher.

Forget that he sucked in the NL, is out of shape, has major temper and alcohol problems, plus a stubborn streak…he’s a great pickup for the Yankees.

Just wondering if anyones noticed any strong tensions between Al Leiter and Michael Kay latley??

HAvent noticed, but the two are actual very close personal friends. thats why Al took the job at YES.

Hey who knows...maybe its time for a career revival for the fat guy.

Wow another sucky ex-Oriole pitcher rejoins the AL East. Didn’t the Cards DFA him to be replaced with Jeff Weaver?

I wonder if Mazzilli had any influence on this move.

Did he ever have a career. He's been an under-achiever all but one year-- his walk year a couple of years ago.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...?

Good god, I'd rather see Chacon out there every 5 days.

Gee that makes me think. Where are all those Yankee fans that said Chacon wasn't a fluke last year? Would any of you like to step up and eat your words? Yeah thought not.

Uh, those words were eaten and digested a while ago.

Yeah, take your shots. I was wrong and can accept that. Did I ever try to dodge that? Yeah, thought not.

Good start to the second half for Randy and the Yankees.

7 innings of 3 run ball against the White Sox is definitely a positive.

Well, I'm not gonna lie, I'm worried, but there is still hope. This has been mentioned a lot, but you cannot expect Matsui and Sheffield to be 100% when they come back, if they do come back. The Sox should get another starter, and hopefully a reliever to get Seanez or Tavarez out of here. This is gonna be a fun last couple of months, as always, because this time, the loser probably does go home.

Wasn't the loser supposed to go home last year too?

I think both teams will come on strong and either the Tigers or ChiSox fall back. They still have 13 games remaining vs. each other, and both have to play the Yanks (3 times) and BoSox (3 times) again, which neither team has been real successful against.

The lsoer wont necessarily go home. I think all that stuff about the Wild Card coming out of the Central is ridiculous. The White SOx just got swept and have a pitching staff in shambles. The Yankees are only 4 out of the Wild Card (half outof the division) and with that 5.something ERA of the White Sox, they can possibly find themselves out of the lead. It is no givin that the Wild Card is coming from the central like many have been predicting all year.

As for Matsui and Sheffield, good news today. Matui will be seeing a doctor on thursday and could possibly be cleared to swing a bat (as of now he's only doing one handed swings, but is throwing and catching fine). If that is the case he is shooting for a mid August return. Good news considering a few weeks ago on SNY's Daily News Live Cashman said that Matsui is out for the season. In that same interview Cashman said that Sheff is out until early September, and havent heard anything different since.

I just saw the White Sox for 6 games (against the Sox and Yanks). They dont impress me at all. They still have (I think) 12 games with the Tigers and 12 games left with Santana and the Twins. Buster Olney did a schedule analysis the other day and the White Sox had the toughest schedule left. Call me bold but the teams currently stand I think they will miss the playoffs.

Philip Hughes started tonight:

5IP 3H 0R 1BB 9K

In his last seven starts:

42.2 IP 19 H 3 ER 11 BB 54 K

0.63 ERA

4.0 H/9

2.32 BB/9

11.4 K/9

4.9 K/BB

0.70 WHIP

In other news Eric Duncan went 3-4 with a HR. It looks like hes getting over that back injury he had earlier in the year and hes adjusting well to AA pitching. AA is where he should have started the year but the Yankees for some strage reason started him off at AAA.
