From Ben Maller and the Herald:

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Yankees may be on the verge of acquiring slugger Carlos Lee from the Brewers. Former Sox executive Lee Thomas, who is now an assistant to Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin, was seen in Trenton, N.J., on Friday night scouting Yankees pitching prospect Philip Hughes, who allowed one hit and struck out eight for the Double-A Thunder. The Yankees are looking to replace injured outfielders Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui.

EDIT: Already posted something similar.

I'd love that deal. If I was Brewers fan. Come to think of it, I'd love it anyway.

this is the thing

instead of georgie holding on to this guy(i havent seen him pitch so i dont know how good he can be) they'll move him for an aging outfielder who may or may not provide a thumb to stop the boulder dam from bursting

but come on

they need more than carlo lee

much more and to trade their best pitching prospect for lee is really silly,if they were 1 player away that'd be a different matter but that just isnt the case

I have a very hard time believing that trade. With Cano out and A-Rod having a sub-par year(along with Sheff and Matsui gone) the Yankees DO need an offensive spark. But Lee for Hughes is not the way to go. Believe it or not I'd rather miss the playoffs and keep Hughes then trade Hughes and MAYBE make the playoffs.

is it really so bad to miss the playoffs for the 1st time in 12 years rather than dump your stud for a chubby nl left fielder??

the key here is georges willingness to bite the bullet

the future for the yanks isnt secure and george has never been 1 to lay back and accept the fate of doom

its time for cashman to rebuild and i think the longer they wait the bigger the fall

But also, why do the Yankees keep going after the bats? Sure, now 3 guys are down, and ARod is struggling, but even without those 3 key contributors in the Yankee lineup, they still have a Top 10 offense in MLB. Their pitching is the real problem. Mussina is usually good, although he has had some rocky outings, Johnson is clearly aging, despite the occasional gem. After that, who? Jaret Wright can only go 5 innings usually. Their saviors Small and Chacon haven't done well this year. Wang is having a decent year, but a playoff rotation of Johnson, Moose, Wang and Wright? They couldn't get out of the DS.

agreed coco

they need pitching for the future, never mind this year

their 2 studs are aging rapidly, rivera isnt as lites out as he once was and the middle??

ha

their middle relief should all be waived

does mrs farnsworth ever get out of a jam??

George couldn't stand to miss the playoffs when he could have done something about it' date=' even if it would have meant dumping his ace of 10+ years to come. I say, do that trade, Brewers.[/quote']

Well its easy for the Brewers to do. They wont re-sign Lee and they get a stud.

Bingo, Seano. this is the big question.

The Sox F.O. has stated publicly that you can't contend every year and retain some sense of overall organizational strength, fiscal responsibility and a positive future. I believe it was Theo who said its 6-7 yrs out of every 10 that they felt the Sox could go for it, and that periodic rebuilding was essential to meeting the long-term organizational goals.

Yankees tend to operate under a different philosophy or so it appears...what they do this year will be very interesting.

Personally if they're going to rape their farm system I hope they do it going after more offense, like Carlos Lee...cuz if they were able to grab some established pitching (i.e. SMOLTZ) I'd be more concerned.

exactly

i dont want to see mussin smoltz and rj down the stretch

i really think the injuries are too much for them to overcome at this point

and now with cano gone??

theyre too f***ed up to continue

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize ARod lacks timely hitting. He's just speaking the truth.

But I wouldn’t have expected that kind of truth coming from a Yankee ball washing network like YES.

braves bullpen sucks....if that was any other pen that was good they would have closed the door on NY
Was that not a 'clutch' hit either?

Sure, but isnt that the same Braves pen that the Red Sox scored 7 runs off of to get that Sunday night win in Atlanta? I'm sure you werent upset with the Braves pen then.
