Come on now, gold gloves are awarded to the best defensive player at a particular position. Jeter was the best defensive shortstop the past two years in the American League.
If that were true, and that's a big "if", it doesn't change the fact that ARod is the better SS.

Come on now, gold gloves are awarded to the best defensive player at a particular position. Jeter was the best defensive shortstop the past two years in the American League. Granted, he had Alex Rodriguez over there covering tons of ground, but he still did a great job. Just because you dont like the guy doesnt mean you can dismiss his Gold Gloves and claim that he won them for nothing more than popularity. If it were a fan voting you would have a case, but the media members who voted for this award felt Jeter was deserving enough.

One Red Seat made his case with statistics, all you have said is he "deserves it" and say he said that because he doesn't like Jeter. I dunno, it seems he makes the stronger case.

Yup, those media guys really know what they are doing too. I mean, hell, they gave Palmeiro a GG in '99 after he played 1B for 28 games and DH'd for 135. If you think the GG goes to the best fielder every year, then you have a lot of naivete to overcome.

Good point. That screwed Tino out of a gold glove that year too. But really, there are onyl a handful of instances that you could point to. For the most part, the media guys do a pretty good job.

Nobody is disagreeing with you there.

Right, but if you're going to use gold gloves as a tool to show excellent defensive players, then even a "handful" of mess ups is too much.

I agree with you, but do you guys really think Jeter was undeserving the past two years? Seriously.

Mike Mussina is now tied with Tommy Bond for 58th place on the All Time wins list, and is only 2 behind Whitey Ford, and hes one start behind Curt Simmons and Bob Welch for 67th All time in Starts.

OK so lets see, the Yankees released Durazo back on the second and today called up Kris Wilson and claimed Aaron Guiel off waivers. I wonder how Guiel will do for us. He'll join the team tomorrow.
Posted
Yankees are pondering DFA'ing Shawn Chacon.

It would make sense. With the arrival of Guiel today they need to make a move and with 13 pitchers on the roster right now Torre said they will be dropping a pitcher to make room for Guiel.

I wonder if Chacon would make it through waivers, that's a tough call. If I had to guess, I would say not.

Also, speaking of Guiel, I was hoping that somebody could clear something up for me. On yankees.com in the article reporting the clam of Guiel it said that he still has minor league options. As I understand it, if a player is on a 40 man roster for parts of 3 seasons, he no longer has any options. Guiel has played in the Major Leagues for the Royals in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and now 2006. I dont see how he could have options remaining. Can anyone help me out here?

Jesus Montero, The 16 year old Venezuelan catcher we just signed pictured during spring training working out in intrasquad games during a two day tryout in Tampa. In one of the shortened 5 inning games he went 3-4 with a double, single, and a two run homer.

EDIT: I have a hard time dealing with the fact that i'm older than the top catching prospect in the Yankees organization. :(

Is this what all of you older guys feel like when watching sports?

Well I'd rather be older than him than younger than him. Our #1 spec soon to be 27:lol:

Yankees could soon trade Chacon to Seattle for Joel Piniero' date=' a VAST improvement over Chacon.[/quote']

Why would Seattle do that trade? It would be completely foolish for them to trade Pineiro for a flat out stiff when they can get a minor leaguer who might have some upside.

per rotoworld

David Ortiz, Miguel Tejada, Troy Glaus, Jermaine Dye, Ryan Howard, Lance Berkman, David Wright and Miguel Cabrera were named as the field for Monday's Home Run Derby.

Some notable absences. Carlos Lee said earlier this week that he was out because of a sore hand, and Albert Pujols also took himself out of contention as he continues his recovery from a oblique injury. Jim Thome is another who asked out. Last year's winner, Bobby Abreu, won't be going to this year's All-Star Game and probably wouldn't have wanted to take part anyway.

A breath of fresh air we didnt see another homerun derby of players representing their home countries. A couple of guys in there last year didnt actually define slugger.

This must be the first time in awhile that a Yankee isnt taking part

The Yankees haven't had anyone in it since 2003.

Giambi won in 2002, right? lol it was so cool, I was in Italy at the time (Venice) and I pick up a USA Today the day after the home run derby and it's got Giambi on the front saying that he won the HR Derby...I was pretty excited to say the least lol.

Sounds good to me, i've always liked Piniero.

That deal straight up makes absolutely NO sense.

Sure it does. Struggling pitchers sometimes find success with new surroudnings. Really nothing to lose, and in fact I think Piniero is an upgrade from Chacon. That trade makes perfect sense from a Yankee standpoint.

Also, regarding the forum description "making the Mets look better since 2001" or whatever it says; thats the most ridiculous thing i've heard. And dont get me wrong, i'm not getting on the Mets, because I root for them too, but I am amazed by this statement. Including 2001, the Yankees have won 5 division championships and 2 American League championsips while the Mets have won 0 and 0. In 2001 the Mets finished just 2 games over .500. The only other year since where they finished over .500 was last year when they finished just 4 games above. 2002, 2003, and 2004 look like this: 75-86, 66-95, 71-92. To say the Yankees have been making the Mets look better since 2001 is humerously ridiculous. The Mets have been a disaster, as well as a laughingstock here in New York since 2001-2002 with the exception of last year when Omar Minaya finally brought some legitimacy to the franchise. With the exception of last year the Mets have been an absolute JOKE since 2001. Nice try though. I do find it pretty funny though that you would try and say that we make the Mets look better, when in fact you guys, yourselves havent finished better than us since 1995. And when it comes to this season regarding the Yankees "making the Mets look better" I dont exactly call a 3-3 record shameful. SOrry yeszir. But I must say, you're really on a role between this and the whole second place cafe thing, Good work.

I'm pretty sure that he means it makes no sense because nobody is interested in acquiring Chacon.....not even for Piniero.

You really suck at understanding the point of rivalry banter. Obviously the sub-forum name isn't accurate. But, it is there to get under the skin of Yankee fans. Your rant proves that it worked.

It honestly doesn't. Even if both are struggling Piniero is a much better pitcher than Chacon, IMO.

And you cheer for the Mets too? WHat kind of bandwagon jumper are you?
