Was that not a 'clutch' hit either?

of course it was clutch. I even heard that they went and got the ball for him.

I wonder if it was because it was his 100th as a Yankee, as the team has stated...

or whether it was really to commemorate his first clutch hit in who knows how long.

It goes as the same w/ the HR, his first as a Yankee;)

But it was his 100th Yankee homerun, too

Big Deal..so he gets 1 big hit..law of averages has to come into play once in a great while. Nobody is saying the guy is not a freakishly good player..we are saying he is nowhere near as good as Papi, in the "Clutch"..when it REALLY counts. He never will be. He was never clutch in Seattle...he was never Clutch in Texas...he does alot of damage when the Yankees are behind by 7 runs or ahead by the same. He will always be a productive player...but he will never be the kind of FORCE that David Ortiz is. Pitchers sh!t their pants when Papi comes to the plate in a close game.

And remember this..A-rod never wanted to be a Yankee. He still doesn't. He got stuck in NY. he even tried to give away 30 mill to go to Boston and NOT NY...lol. How does that make you feel Yankee fans? LOL!

I'm sure he would have given up 30 mil to be traded to the Yankees if they were Texas' original trade partner' date=' not Boston. He just wanted to win.[/quote']

and finally he took it upon himself to get it done

The MLBPA never would sanction a player’s contract to be devalued.

Ok, so he got one big hit, but after surviving last year, I've learned this, THAT MEANS SOMETHING! Maybe, as people were expecting, he'd ground into a double play, we'd lose, youd make fun of him, blah blah blah, and then a week down the road, hed get back into form, but who knows now what'll happen? Maybe we'll lose out on the division by 1 game, but maybe we'll win it by one game, he'll maybe we won't even be in contension, but that fact stays that he got the hit he needed yesterday, thats what we've been waiting for him to do and he did it. Will he have 10 over the span of 3 years like Ortiz? Probably not, but I can live with even 5, because I know that those 5 can mean big! And The win he got us yesterday was just as big becuase were still keeping ourselves within achievable range of the Red Sox while their Streaking, and rright now, I don't think if we got to 6+ games out, we'd be able that well to get back to first in time to have any type of lead. So, yea, he got one big hit, but I'll take that over no big hit anyday, and point being, maybe thats just what he needed, remember when we were down like 9-2 to you guys, he made it 9-4, but then he did good the next game, what position could a walk-off set him up for?

i think i can speak for 25 million sox fans in saying i'd prefer the man to stay asleep in tight situations

i always feared sheff more than anyone else on that club

giambi bernie and posada have a way of getting it done too but arods a guy who can turn a season around in a week

hes capable of those 6hr 15rbi .426 weeks and as far as im concerned id prefer he do it when we're 12 up on september 24th

its still going to be a good race

too many games against each other with toronto lurking as well

Just got a cool phone call, my friend had an extra ticket to tomarrows game, and I'll be going. Its only my second Yankee game ever, and my first night game, which I'm told is a lot better to be it, and I'll be getting to see my favorate current MLB player on the mound in Mike Mussina(I've waited my whole life to do the Mooooooose call!!), And I'm really excited.

I have to admit the sox are doing really good. Its frustrating trying to gain on the sox when they seem to have everything going their way, but props to the Blue Jays and Yanks for keeping it relatively close.

I can't wait for the Sox to lose a couple more here and there soon. I have a feeling the opening game against florida will snap their winning streak. Not just because its the next game, but because of the pitching matchup

yes you can speak for us, Your Crunchiness....

let sleeping dogs lie

we don't need Liver Lips waking up now and carrying this team...let's hope he falls flat a few times and starts getting booed at home again, just to keep the heat on him.

Night games at the Stadium are so much more fun. Enjoy man.

For all the hype the Mets are getting, they are only one game ahead of the Yankees in the loss column, despite playing the worst competition in baseball. I think the Sox exposed them this week, once again proving the vast superiority of the AL. Pitching matchups work in the Bombers favor, they should win all three this weekend.

True but after they play the Marlins... 4 game series at Tropicana Field against the lowly Devil Rays. Before the All-Star Break they will face the Chi Sox for some revenge. Should be a great series, and all but assuring the Sox will retain the AL East lead into the All-Star Break

Wow, fun game, I guess I was wrong when I said I didn't need a sweatshirt, and then found myself soaking wet, and numb for 1 hour, but, we won, so it was worth it.

Bad RJ showed up today. 2-0 Mets on a single, double, pop up, double to start the game.

I hope Yankee fans can finally drop the, "The umps are always against us", routine. Jeter was out by a hair on an IF single and the homeplate ump impedes Castro from catching a foul pop by Giambi. No worries though, they get a K-CS DP on the next pitch.

Looks like Slappy is starting to put it together when it counts as he singled home a run with the bases juiced.

Another missed call goes their way. Nady was hit on the shin, but the ump didn't call it....and Nady strikes out on the next pitch.

Randy needs to start pitching to contact more. He's trying to do the superman thing, you know, doesn't matter where it goes because my stuff is so good. He clearly doesn't have the velocity or movement to punch 'em out like he used to, and he's leaving he ball in hittable spots over the plate. 4-2 on a Castro single with the bases loaded.

They also need to mix it up more. Everything is inside and the Met hitters are clearly cheating inside.

Melky airmails one on Reyes single. I don't get the love affair some Yankee fans have with this guy. He's got a strong arm, but he's proned to mistakes with it. He loses focus in the field from time to time. And, he's less than impressive at the plate. I still think they should have sold high about a month ago.

I'll give credit where credit is due. You are one of the few Yankee fans that doesn't get over-excited about marginal players just because they came from your farm system.
