    (most scouts see his future at first base or a corner outfield spot, which are also logjammed at the moment). Once you move him off SS, and particularly if you move him off the IF, he loses a lot of his appeal.

    We weren't getting away from this. Our other two discussed targets, Steer and Langeliers, are likely done for the year.

    I was going to mention that all of these are situational. With a wild pitcher, take a pitch. If you have a good handle on the bat, and they are playing you way in, swing away. If you are a lefty hitter with speed, then you have a good chance of getting the runner(s) over with a smaller chance of a DP.

    You can only plan for so many contingencies. We can argue in favor of a RH RF, SS, another RP, or another SP. But we're lucky if we get one.

    That's why we look at past performance to predict future performance. Most of the players last 28 days aren't that far off their career norms: Contreras +200 (69 PAs) Monasterio +300 (60 PAs) Duran -200 The team BABIP was .287, which is about right. I'm not seeing much of a reason to expect negative regression.

    How many available RPs are pitching better than those 3 right now (over the past 28 days, 1.74, 0.96, and 2.70)? I know these are small samples for guys with limited experience, but in a world of limited resources, I am not inclined to improve our BP.

    I'd be shocked if Miami made that move. He's no longer vintage Alcantara, but I think he is still a #3 or better. ed: Maybe the $21M due in 2027 might seem like too much for Miami?

    I was looking at the boxscore from last night. There was only one RS player with an OPS < .696. In a league where the average is .721, that's pretty strong.

    One of my favorite plays is bunting for a hit with 1st & 2nd and no outs. The downside is a modest downgrade on expected runs, with the upside being bases juiced and no outs. My 2nd favorite is trying to pad a small lead, like 2-run or 3-run leads. Every run puts on a lot more pressure on the other team, and allows our pitcher to pitch to contact.

    The macro statistics are bad. But the Tango charts don't differentiate between a #5 hitter bunting or a #9 hitter bunting. I'd bet real money that the results from the #9 hitter bunting in the the 1-2-3 hitters, is a lot more productive than the #6 hitter bunting into the 7-8-9.

    I have no hope of you understanding this, but the here and now is the result of yesterday and the day before. Guys don't show up in a RS uniform fully formed. The idea that players should be in their prime as a rookie, is not worthy of discussion.

    That's my concern. I kind of think pitchers are more creatures of habit and routine than most, and don't want them to lose their rhythm. I can defer to Breslow and Baily on the psychology.

    I'd err on the side of risk on Sandoval. He's gone after this year, and he was well-paid. Abuse him if necessary. And he probably wants as many innings as possible to increase his ask next year.

    So we trade for an SP, and keep him in the BP until someone goes down? Like Moon said, maybe demote Tolle for 15 days and maybe do two 3-inning stints just to keep sharp, and then do the same with Bennett. Maybe I'm just being superstitious and hate to mess with what's working.

    I haven't seen the scouting reports, but his numbers have been pretty good for a month+.

    That's the way it is for everyone and everything. If any team's hitting, pitching and defense regress, they go in the wrong direction.

    It's not even worth the band width to discuss. Mayer would get claimed by every team.

    I'm still not getting. Say we trade for Castillo. What would our rotation be?

    Sandoval is a starter. Bello is a bulk reliever, which is basically a starter who doesn't pitch well in the 1st inning. Since Castillo is a current conversation, I don't see how adding him to the RS, and sending down Sandoval, who is pitching better, improves the team.

    I don't want players that are always mad at their team.

    Last time I was in Vegas, it was never less than 118. When I was a kid, I use to think that 109 was hot, but 118 is legit tough.
