  1. Yes, sometimes players just lose it, but you have to give it some time to know if a player has just lost it or if it's something else. I don't think that Devers is pouting about 3B any longer, but I do think that the mental adjustment of going from a full time position player to DH could be a real factor.
  2. In the 8th slot, our hitters rank 27th in BA and OPS. In the 9th slot, we are 25th in BA and 26th in OPS. More concerning to me is that we are just as bad out of our 4th slot, and below average in the #1 and #2 slots. Bregman and Story are doing their jobs in the top 5. It's hard to carry two black holes, but things would look a lot better if we can get Duran, Devers, and Casas going the way they should be able to go.
  3. Fans tend to bail quickly on any player who's not performing. I get it. It's hard to have patience sometimes, but it's a must. We've seen players time and time again come back strongly after a very tough stretch.
  4. Our quest to leave .500 far below us begins tonight.
  5. Bingo. I really don't want to lose Rafaela's defense. We can live with him in the #9 hole. He's not the problem offensively.
  6. I have high expectations pretty much every year. I often get disappointed with the on-field results, but it's not often that I don't feel like our team should be competitive. I still have high hopes for this year's team.
  7. LOL It doesn't matter, jad mojo runs strong!
  8. It would be nice if we could get some more offensive production from our catchers, but for me, defense and handling the pitching staff is the priority for that position. The bright side is that according to Baseball Prospectus, out of all catchers, Narvaez and Wong rank 3rd and 6th, respectively, in Deserved Runs Prevented, a measure of a catcher's total fielding contribution, in runs. They are both up there in pitch framing as well, with Wong at #4 and Narvaez at #7. Obviously, these are small samples and the numbers can change quickly, but if these guys can do a good job defensively, I'm not too concerned with their offense. Baseball Prospectus Leaderboard
  9. Yes, I agree that trades will have to happen to clear some logjams. And that's okay. I just think it's too early in the season to really know who to trade and what our needs are going to be. Right now we have some good depth. I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible, without hurting the success of the current team.
  10. I am among those who think it's too early to make any significant changes, but I'm thinking more in terms of our players rather than our coaches. I still think it's too early, but I'd be more inclined to part ways with Fatse than I would any of our players. The Rockies are a flat out mess.
  11. At least. Being at home, anything less than that would be heartbreaking. Then again, the White Sox have 4 wins and 2 of them are against us. 🙄 With winning the last 2 games against the Rays, now is a great time to really get some momentum going.
  12. I can't really argue with that.
  13. It's so aggravating. Despite the wins, in the last 2 games, there were at least 3 more instances when the Sox had a runner on 2B with no outs and failed to advance the runner.
  14. I understood the desire for a RHB and the desire for improved 3B defense, and I like having Bregman on the team, but with all that being said, I did not really think his acquisition was necessary. IMO, it created (and still creates) somewhat of a logjam. Yoshida is part of the logjam. Grissom, whom I don't think really got a fair chance, and Mayer are other parts of said logjam. Of course, Grissom and Mayer would be somewhat blocked even if Bregman weren't here. At any rate, before we start trading or DFAing guys in order to call up Anthony, I'm just saying let's protect our depth and give it a longer look.
  15. Please, no on the Red Sox giving him a 7 year deal. The only reason that I am okay with his current contract is because it is only for 3 years. Despite the much higher and rather crazy AAV, I much prefer this $120M/3 contract over a $200M/7 contract.
  16. Pythagoras doesn't care much if a team's run differential is "skewed" by a few 10-run wins or losses. A +50 run differential measures the same whether the +50 came largely from 3 games or is spread consistently over 20 games. Even though a 1-run, walk-off defeat might be more demoralizing, especially to fans, than a blowout, the former bodes much better for the ability of the team than the latter. Pythagoras is the man, BTW.
  17. I don't really disagree with any of that. But if Anthony comes up, somebody has to go. And what becomes of Yoshida when he's healthy?
  18. It is fair to be frustrated with him. I am frustrated with him. I don't think we should give up on him though (not saying that you are, but I've been reading posts about Yoshida at first base.)
  19. I'm not really worried about Casas either, but I seem to be in the minority on that.
  20. I'm not saying that Anthony isn't ready, nor do I disagree that he could provide a spark. I just think that it is too early in the season for that. We need to give this current roster a longer look.
  21. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the past 2 years, he was usually right about those called strikes that were actually balls. This year, not so much. At any rate, what ever happened to protecting the plate on those close pitches?
  22. Just when you think you have pretty good pitching depth, you don't.
  23. I don't have a problem with sitting a player for a game or two to let him clear his head. I don't think it's time to even start thinking about calling up Anthony or anyone else, or to even start thinking about making any trades unless an injury calls for it.
