  1. I am a big supporter of Henry for the most part. I have never had issues with his supposed lack a spending as many others have. My beef with him is that I feel like he tends to panic react.
  2. It's almost like I made this post myself.
  3. These cycles take approximately 5 years. In other cities, there might have been a 100% tear-down, but in Boston, there has to be an attempt to remain competitive while building up the farm. That attempt to remain competitive has to be within the parameters of keeping long-term sustainability the priority. That usually means no big free agent signings. If you're lucky, you can get to the playoffs, or even win a WS during that "rebuild" time. IMO, both Cherington and Bloom were at the point where the team was ready to go for it. Neither got the chance to see their hard work come to fruition. I was not a fan of Dombrowski, but I do like Breslow.
  4. I know most people are not fans of Bloom, but the dislike for him really has me baffled. Always has baffled me. Needless to say, I was and am a very big Bloom fan. Actually, I take that back. I'm not really baffled by the dislike. Most fans have a different team building philosophy than I have. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  5. Yes, absolutely. I think that's what aggravates me so much about players who turn down $300M contracts.
  6. Yes! Back to .500 tomorrow. It was nice to see the offense score some runs today. That said, they are still striking out far too often.
  7. It doesn't take much for the world to swing from one end of the spectrum to the other, does it? It's a long season. We, including myself, have to remind ourselves of that.
  8. How refreshing it was to see that type of start. I'm so used to seeing guys who can barely get through 5 innings.
  9. They succumbed to the pressure.
  10. Mookie had every right to think he could do better, but I can't be angry with the Sox on that one for "letting Mookie get away." They gave him a competitive offer. Mookie countered with something ridiculous.
  11. Of course there's always some risk on both sides, but it's a win-win IMO. For a young guy like Campbell, I'm guessing $60M is a LOT of money.
  12. Once upon a time, I was against the idea of locking up young players when they were still in their cost-controlled years. Now, with the way the free agent contracts have become so outrageous, I think you almost have to lock them up early. The FO has done a good job with that.
  13. Devers will get it together. There's no time like the present. Let's go!
  14. I know the Dodgers' spending shouldn't concern me. I also know that the Red Sox could spend the same if they chose to do so. Just because they can doesn't mean that I think they should. I don't want Red Sox ownership to spend like that. I have always been vehemently opposed to those monster contracts.
  15. Most people would agree with you, I think. IMO, I'm not sure it was the right time to pull off a big deal just yet. As with Cherington, I think Bloom should have been allowed more time to see his vision through. That said, I'm not unhappy Breslow. I think he's very similar to Bloom.
  16. The odd thing is, I really like most of the Dodgers players, not to mention the beloved Dave Roberts. (I have a hard time rooting for Mookie or Shohei, for different reasons.) That said, the Dodgers franchise has me so turned off right now with their spending that, except for the Yankees, I will pull for anyone else. Last year's World Series was a baseball nightmare for me. LOL Another odd thing is that once upon a time, I thought Andrew Friedman rivaled Theo in greatness. I am no longer a Friedman fan.
  17. 1. Am I misremembering? The Sox did make Mookie a competitive offer. Mookie said no. 2. Bloom did exactly what the Red Sox hired him to do. He never should have been fired, IMO. Henry remains too impatient, IMO. 5 and 6. 100% agree.
  18. Devers has gotten into his own head. Part of it is lack of at bats, but I think the whole DH thing is really playing on him. It's not just his disappointment with not being able to play 3rd base, but it's also the mental adjustment of having so much down time. Even if he were 100% happy with being the DH, I think he would struggle with the adjustment of not playing in the field. The Red Sox' best alignment has Bregman at 3rd and Devers at DH, but I would have put Bregman at 2nd and let Raffy play 3B. Keep him happy. Truth be told, I wouldn't have signed Bregman to begin with. I have nothing against him, I just didn't think he was necessary.
  19. Greetings MVP and everyone! It's been a long time. :) In this very young season, the offense already has me frustrated. The Ks last year, and subsequently, the inability to at least make productive outs, were particularly frustrating. I am hoping that with a little more experience under their belts over last season, the chase rate will improve. I am happy to see the positive nod given to Yoshida.
  20. This past postseason should have a strong impact on convincing people that the playoffs truly are very largely a crapshoot.
  21. Stay the course, Chaim, stay the course.
  22. It's extremely difficult to overcome having 80% of your projected rotation on the IL at the same time. We were fortunate with the injury bug last year. It has hit us hard this year.
  23. I understand all of that. My contention is that the strength of this team was supposed to be the offense. The pitching staff needed to pitch well enough to keep the team in most games and let the offense do its thing. The offense averaged a mere 3.28 runs/game. Had they scored runs like they should have been able to, the team would have won more games, because the pitching was good enough. In those first 29 games, there were 6 games in which the Sox pitchers gave up 3 or fewer runs and the team lost. If the offense were able to score just 4 runs in those games, the team record would be 16-13 in that stretch. There were another 2 losses in which the pitcher allowed 4 runs. There were only 4 losses in which the offense scored 5+ runs. In other words, when the offense scored, the team won. When they didn't, the team lost.
  24. I thought the signing of JD was one of Dombrowski's finer moments.
