  1. They really should start giving Devers reps at 1B. That could solve a couple of issues.
  2. I was thinking the same thing about the non-Gatorade shower from his teammates. I felt kind of bad for Casas.
  3. I am fine with giving Casas about 3 more weeks to at least show signs of coming out of his funk. Thankfully, he has options remaining, if needed.
  4. I am more concerned with the offensive side of things for the Red Sox than I am with the pitching side. Hopefully, we put up a crooked number early and take some pressure off of Bello. Let's win this game!
  5. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. It's a risk the team has to take. It's easy to question why they extended a player so early when the player isn't playing up to people's expectations.
  6. You can also make matters worse, not only for the short term but also for the long term, by making rash decisions.
  7. I am not arguing whether Anthony is ML ready. I'm not arguing that he shouldn't be called up at some point this year, probably sooner rather than later. That said, to call him up with a little more than a week to go in April is forcing the issue, IMO. Someone will have to go down when he is called up. We need to give the current roster players more time to see exactly what we have. We're only 1.5 games behind the Yankees. Nothing is dire. We can have some more patience.
  8. I miss the days of a starting pitcher regularly going 7 innings (or more), then being able to go to the 8th and 9th inning guys. I know analytics say otherwise, and I'm a big believer in analytics, but I would really like to go back to the days when starting pitching had more relevance. I'm not saying starting pitching isn't relevant, it's just not as important as it used to be. And amen to the "no adventurous late innings."
  9. It seems like a fine line sometimes between having patience with a player who has the potential and should be performing better than they are and overrating a player. I have a hard time giving up on Red Sox players, probably to a fault. I do agree with your overall point that fans tend to overrate their own players.
  10. You and I have always been on the same page about the importance of defense, especially up the middle. I agree it's difficult to carry 2 black holes in the lineup, but for one, I think we need to give Narvaez and Rafaela a longer leash, and for two, I think if the other slumping hitters in our lineup come around, then the 8 and 9 holes won't be as big an issue. I am against trading Story. I am not against calling up Anthony, but I don't think now is the time. I prefer to wait it out a little longer.
  11. Casas, Devers, Duran, and even Wilyer after his very hot start, all need to start hitting like we think they are capable of doing. It's interesting that it's been our right-handed bats, Bregman, Story, and Campbell, (and even Romy and Refsnyder in their very limited at bats) that have been performing.
  12. Leave Ceddanne alone in the 9-hole. He is not the problem.
  13. I understand everyone's frustration with Casas, but we have to stay patient. Fortunately, the Sox are holding their own in the division, so that allows us to have more patience with him. Casas has been terrible so far this year, but as others have mentioned, the fact that it's the beginning of the season makes his stats more glaring. Most players will go through a prolonged slump during the season, but the slump is somewhat masked by already-accrued season stats. Not that I want another Dom Smith type at first base, but last year, he became my favorite Red Sox player when he was here.
  14. Now is not the time to trade anyone, nor is it the time to "force" anything by calling up Anthony. Anthony will get his chance. The team needs to get Casas going right. You're right, calling up Anthony will not fix that.
  15. It was nice to win 3 out of 4, but it's annoying how tough both series this year have been. The White Sox are .133 against the other teams they've played, LOL
  16. He looked a little shaky to start, but he ended up having a really good outing.
  17. By all accounts, he's also a pretty darn good human being, which makes it easier to root for him. Key word being "easier".
  18. Very true about overrating your own guys. I have to admit that I am guilty of doing that. Actually, I'm not so sure it's overrating guys or just trying to stay positive about players? Are they the same thing? Some of it is probably wishful thinking and hoping for the best, some of it is feeling the need to defend Red Sox players against all the criticism. Some of it is having a lot of patience, maybe too much.
  19. As you said, there aren't that many catchers who are going to provide both offense and defense. Given the choice, I prefer the strong defense. After his last start, Dobbins had high praise for Narvaez. That's what I want to see in a catcher. Also, Narvaez is maybe showing some signs of providing more offense. Fingers crossed. As far as trading away Teel, it was a trade that had to be made. It hurts to lose him, but we needed a #1 pitcher badly. As far as trading Story for Murphy, no thank you.
  20. He's an odd one, for sure. I guess we all have our little quirks though. LOL That said, I like Casas and I've had high hopes for him being our long-term first baseman. I know he has it in him.
  21. It would be nice to have both, for sure. Our 8 and 9 spots in the lineup are both defense first positions, and both provide good defense. I can live with their light offense, but the other guys in the lineup can't also be producing so poorly.
  22. Yes, the Pirates are also a big mess. I became an Oneil Cruz fan last year. For some reason, I watched way more Pirates games than I should have, even though it was more about watching their opponents than it was about watching them.
  23. Of course I have no way of knowing, but Casas seems to have fallen out of favor with Cora. If Casas doesn't get it together soon, I can see him being sent to AAA to get his head right. Or the phantom injury bug might bite him.
  24. I am sure the FO is exploring all the possibilities for trade. Unless there's an injury, I really don't know what they'll do with Yoshida when he gets healthy. As they say, these things have a way of working themselves out.
