  1. The entire team appears to be snake bit right now. They are finding ways to lose.
  2. We don't know how Anthony will perform once he's called up. He wouldn't be the first player to tear it up in the minors only to struggle in the major leagues. The problem with DFAing current players, beyond eating their contracts, is that it really cuts into our depth. If a trade comes along that makes sense, I'd be more open to that idea but it could still cut into our position player depth. Everything seems good until an injury happens.
  3. Obviously, we took a big hit when Bregman went down. We also took a big hit when Casas went down, despite how poorly he was hitting at the time. Regardless, most of the guys you mentioned are underperforming. They are better than what they are currently showing us. And not to belabor a point, but we are 6-14 in one run games with a +17 run differential. Not great, but we are better than our current record suggests we are.
  4. I am a Cora fan. I agree that a change of manager probably wouldn't hurt, but I'm not sure how much it would help either. That said, I'm also not sure who is calling the shots on Devers not playing 1B, but I don't like it. Why is Devers being treated with kid gloves? It's not just this 1B thing. Verdugo was once benched for not running hard to first base, yet Devers is allowed to often not run hard with no consequences from Cora. Don't get me wrong. I really like Devers. I just feel like something is amiss here.
  5. I also think the Bregman/Devers thing was handled poorly from the beginning. Devers comments back then make it pretty clear that there was poor communication between management and the FO. Largely because of that, we are very short in depth at both 1B and 3B. Had Devers been left at 3B to open the season, he might now be more willing to transition to 1B and Yoshida could DH.
  6. I'm not as anxious as most for Anthony to be called up. I like our OF as currently constructed. Duran has heated up. Abreu has been in a bad slump in the month of May, especially the last 2 weeks, but he should break out of it soon. Rafaela is Rafaela. He's fine in the 9 hole. Plus, I love the defense that our OF brings. How nice it would be if Anthony could play 1B, but management has already nixed that idea.
  7. As I've posted before, when I look at our roster player by player, I can't believe that we are still hovering around .500. We should be significantly better than that, IMO. That is what's so frustrating to me. Fortunately, there's still a lot of season left to play. The team's talent suggests that we have to start winning more games. I hope.
  8. I hate to lose any games, but I especially hate to lose games in which we get good starting pitching. :( 6-6 in Crochet's starts, 0-3 in Mayer starts. :( Over the past several years, the offense has been, by far, more frustrating for me than our pitching.
  9. I agree, but boy are they frustrating when they're going through periods like this. Especially when we get good pitching.
  10. Campbell needs to just work through it. He'll get it back. Not that batting order makes much difference in run production, but I wish Cora would have left Campbell in the 7 hole. The problem now with Bregman out is that we have too many hitters who are slumping bigly.
  11. Never fear. The Red Sox were able to bring them back to life. 🙄
  12. At this point in Bello's career, that's a fair comparison. Bello has the stuff. He needs to get out of his head. I was hopeful that with the addition of Crochet, Bello would be able to settle into a more comfortable role in the middle of the rotation, but we haven't seen it so far. We need Pedro to work his magic with Bello.
  13. I was anticipating such a response as I was typing that post. LOL It is their inconsistency that is making them so consistently mediocre.
  14. You speak the truth Denny. It's those late inning losses that tend to stick in our minds. Hence, IMO, a lot of unwarranted blame goes to the BP. The starting pitchers and the offense are not making the job of the BP any easier. It's very tough for a BP to regularly have to cover 4+ innings a game. It's also very stressful to try to protect a 1 or 2 run lead. The BP has done a great job the last two games.
  15. I know he hasn't panned out. Once upon a time, the Braves were pretty high on him. I'm willing to give him a pass on last year and give him another shot.
  16. Bello seems averse to throwing strikes this year. His 1st pitch strike %, his overall strike %, and his 0-2 count % are all well below his career norms and well below MLB average. What's he afraid of? You're right, the nibbling is very annoying.
  17. Yoshida really needs to be the DH. Devers should be our 1B. Outside of that, I don't have an answer to where he should play. I don't think he should play the OF. However, I don't see the Red Sox DFAing him.
  18. We're feeling as good about our bullpen as we feel about any other aspect of the team. Sometimes, they're lights out, other times, not so much. Inconsistency has been the hallmark of this team so far.
  19. I thought Devers should play first base. It made the most sense for several different reasons. That said, with the way he's been hitting, I hate to mess with that. I guess Campbell at 1B would be the next best choice, but IMO, it's really a lot to put upon a 22 year old rookie. He has struggled mightily since being moved up to the clean up spot. It may be coincidence, but it may also be that he's pressing with the added weight of batting 4th. Perhaps Vaughn Grissom is the answer at 1B.
  20. I have to disagree. IMO, it doesn't matter whether you're an established veteran or a rookie, the response should be a willingness to do whatever is best for the team. Now, perhaps there are reasons beyond what the fans know as to why Devers is unwilling to move to 1B, but I am very disappointed in his responses to the media. The correct response is, "whatever the team needs me to do." I'm thinking this should hold even more for a veteran team leader than it does for a rookie.
  21. Of course. But Henry does care about his purse.
  22. I don't have a specific timeline on calling up Anthony or Mayer. I just know that, for me, it's not in April or May. I'm really not expecting anyone to get yanked. As they say, these things have a way of working themselves out. It may be due to an injury, it may be due to a midseason trade, or it may be due to someone continuing to underperform. We're not going to lose Anthony or Mayer if we don't call them up, so I'm not in any rush to do so.
  23. I can't argue with what you've posted. It makes sense. Being too lazy to look up the opposing pitcher in each game, I'm wondering if we faced a lot of finesse pitchers in April, while facing more power pitchers in May?
  24. My opinion is that what a manager does in the clubhouse and how he handles the players has more of an impact on team results than most in-game decisions. As far as the in-game decisions go, I agree with you that managers don't move the needle very much. Now, I'm not sure what is going on in the clubhouse, in particular, with regards to the whole Devers debacle dating back to when Bregman was first signed. Based on recent production, Devers seems to be okay with everything, but I can't help but wonder if his refusal to play 1B has created any rift in the clubhouse. As we know, when the team is playing well, things like this are a non-issue. When the the team is struggling, these things tend to be blown up more. Either way, Cora may find himself in the hot seat if the team doesn't start playing better.
