  1. The White Sox are below KC in both stats you mentioned. They scored 31 runs against us in 7 games. It was huge to hold KC to so few runs regardless of how bad their offense is.
  2. I can't believe the price of the Mega Millions ticket went up to $5. LOL
  3. No kidding. It's getting on my nerves. LOL Every time I think this team is turning the corner, they sputter again. Last year, we hit a season high 10 games over .500, then the All-Star Break happened. At least we are currently holding pace with the first place Yankees.
  4. The Tigers scare me. IMO, they are currently the best team in baseball and are playing very well, despite losing the last two. Maybe we're catching them at the right time? {Fingers crossed.} It would be nice to win the series, but if we can avoid getting swept and finish the road trip 3-3, I'd be okay with that.
  5. I would rather them spend on shorter term contracts. IMO, the Red Sox should be spending right around the luxury tax threshold every year, with a willingness to go over now and then. I am not among those who would rather see the players get paid hundreds of millions of dollars than have the owners pocket this money. Billionaires versus millionaires? I have no dog in that fight. In a perfect world, that money would be passed on to lower prices for fans and to clubhouse attendants, grounds crew, etc.
  6. As I posted earlier, the Sox owners are not cheapskates. Fans like the shiny toys, and they want the owners to acquire these toys, no matter the cost. Unfortunately for most, our owners don't seem to be willing to pay the price of a 8+ year contract (except for Devers), and rightly so. Frankly, I don't think they really wanted to give Devers that contract either, but felt like they had to so to appease the fan base.
  7. When I look at this team, player by player, I can't believe our record is as bad as it is. Yes, we have some holes, but as you said, we should be at least 20-17. Pythagoras agrees.
  8. Sorry to hear Moon. Wishing you warm thoughts.
  9. I acknowledged that having a higher payroll will get you to the postseason more consistently. More WS winners will have higher payrolls because there are more of those teams in the playoffs. At any rate, I'm not against a higher payroll, necessarily. I'm against the insane superstar contracts.
  10. I have to say that I'm a Cora fan. That said, I really don't understand the decision not to put Devers at 1B. I don't know if the decision has been made, and I don't know if Cora is the one making the decision, but if that decision is made, it is a questionable decision for sure.
  11. No doubt. And even though Casas wasn't hitting, the lineup in yesterday's game felt so much weaker than the one with Casas in it. We need some left-handed hitting. Hurry back Yoshida, and put Devers at 1B.
  12. If it's done correctly, absolutely. Having a huge payroll is more likely to consistently get a team into the playoffs, I can't argue that. However, it's not more likely to give you a ring once you're in the playoffs. Granted, you have to get to the playoffs first. But yes, absolutely a team can get to the playoffs without signing expensive superstars. Once in the playoffs, it's largely a crapshoot.
  13. Agree with this. I just want to win regardless of how the team is put together. That said, I think many will agree with me when I say that watching our home grown players succeed is more rewarding than watching expensive free agents succeed. I can even say the same about watching second tier free agents succeed over expensive superstars.
  14. It feels like over the past two years, the Red Sox have found ways to lose games. It's either the BP blowing a game, the starting pitching giving up 6 runs, or the offense not being able to score more than 1 run. They just can't seem to click on all cylinders. The BP does have to do a better job of closing out games, no doubt.
  15. I know I'm in the minority, but I am not a fan of paying big bucks to relief pitchers.
  16. Memo to the Red Sox: Just win. I don't care how you do it, just win. Thanks in advance.
  17. I understand that, and I'm good with that. I can get behind a Kristian Campbell just as easily, and even more so, as I can get behind a Shohei Ohtani.
  18. That's a good way to look at it, "inconsistent at losing," Every time the team has a mild winning streak and gets to 2 or 3 games over .500, I think we can finally put .500 in our review mirror for good. {Sigh}
  19. I think he would have eventually been sent down, but that would at least give our internal options, like Grissom, some time to get more reps at 1B. I guess the good news is that Casas was hitting so poorly that whoever replaces him short term won't provide much less production. We might even be pleasantly surprised.
  20. It's hard to say with Slaten. Relief pitchers are so volatile, it's hard to say with a lot of them. How often do we see relievers stink it up one year and be very good the next? Or vice versa? As of now, I feel good about Whitlock/Slaten/Chapman at the back of our BP. Stay tuned.
  21. I would think that Devers would jump at the chance to play 1B to get him back on the field defensively. Perhaps Cora is hesitant to do so because if/when Devers has to return to DHing, Devers would not take so kindly to it. OTOH, by all accounts, Devers should be able to play a good first base, in which case he could stay there for a long time.
  22. I feel really sorry for him too. He's had a rough couple of years, and on top of that, it appears that he might be somewhat alienated from his teammates. I was pulling for him. We have suddenly become a heavy right-handed hitting lineup. I guess I could come up with some reasons why they won't give Devers some reps at 1B, but I can also come up with several reasons why they should. I don't know what's going on in Devers' mind, but he would be my first choice to replace Casas.
  23. No, I would rather the owners not hand out monster contracts, and by 'monster', I'm speaking more about the number of years than the dollar amount. Forty million a year for Bregman is way too much, IMO, but the saving grace of that contract is that it's only for 3 years. I'd rather see that than see a 10 year deal with an AAV of $30M. The Red Sox owners are not cheapskates, despite the popular opinion of fans.
