You got the feeling early in the game that the Sox offense was not going to do much scoring. That happened far too often last season. That said, I feel a lot better about this year's offense than I did about last year's. However, the Ks and the inability to make productive outs are still maddening.
We do sometimes tend to forget that these guys are human, and we often have no idea of what kind of personal struggles they are going through that may or may not be affecting their on field performance. It's good to see more and more people feeling comfortable enough to talk about their mental health. I hope it helps someone else going through the same thing.
Not to drudge up old news, but Shohei's marketability is the reason he didn't even get a slap on the wrist for that translator gambling controversy. IMO
I still can't say that the contract makes sense.
It is disheartening to me. I have really been turned off to the business side of baseball from all of these monster contracts. Give me strong farm players and 2nd tier free agent signings all day long. As I've often said, I'm much more impressed with the 2nd half of Dombrowski's tenure with the Red Sox than I am with his first half.
Obviously, it's a very SSS, but Wong's 'expected' stats are much higher than his actual stats.
BA .053, xBA ,267
SLG .053, xSLG .465
wOBA .107, xwOBA .349
Wong will be fine.
Good point about the clubhouse. Story showed a lot of leadership and moxie making it back to the team as quickly as he did last season. I like Story. I liked his contract when he was signed. Here's to hoping he can stay on the field this year.
