  1. I have to disagree. IMO, it doesn't matter whether you're an established veteran or a rookie, the response should be a willingness to do whatever is best for the team. Now, perhaps there are reasons beyond what the fans know as to why Devers is unwilling to move to 1B, but I am very disappointed in his responses to the media. The correct response is, "whatever the team needs me to do." I'm thinking this should hold even more for a veteran team leader than it does for a rookie.
  2. Of course. But Henry does care about his purse.
  3. I don't have a specific timeline on calling up Anthony or Mayer. I just know that, for me, it's not in April or May. I'm really not expecting anyone to get yanked. As they say, these things have a way of working themselves out. It may be due to an injury, it may be due to a midseason trade, or it may be due to someone continuing to underperform. We're not going to lose Anthony or Mayer if we don't call them up, so I'm not in any rush to do so.
  4. I can't argue with what you've posted. It makes sense. Being too lazy to look up the opposing pitcher in each game, I'm wondering if we faced a lot of finesse pitchers in April, while facing more power pitchers in May?
  5. My opinion is that what a manager does in the clubhouse and how he handles the players has more of an impact on team results than most in-game decisions. As far as the in-game decisions go, I agree with you that managers don't move the needle very much. Now, I'm not sure what is going on in the clubhouse, in particular, with regards to the whole Devers debacle dating back to when Bregman was first signed. Based on recent production, Devers seems to be okay with everything, but I can't help but wonder if his refusal to play 1B has created any rift in the clubhouse. As we know, when the team is playing well, things like this are a non-issue. When the the team is struggling, these things tend to be blown up more. Either way, Cora may find himself in the hot seat if the team doesn't start playing better.
  6. The Red Sox have a strikeout problem, period. Their inability to advance runners in situations that call for it is maddening. Situational hitting. It's a lost art amongst Red Sox players.
  7. I'm a Rafaela fan. I'm a fan of defense, in general. He may end up having a pretty good season offensively, or he might not. I think he's worth keeping around though. As far as Anthony not being in Boston, I'm not sure if the extra year of control has anything to do with it. It's more about the talent we already have playing the OF.
  8. Perhaps Campbell at 1B would work once he's taken some reps there. If I'm not mistaken, he's never played 1B. Yes, I think he would be fine making the transition, but that's a lot to put on a young kid trying to work his way out of a slump. Is it a coincidence that Campbell's offense took a dive when he was moved to the clean up spot?
  9. I understand the excitement to have the youngsters called up. I really do. When they get called up, I will be excited to have them on the big league roster. I'm just willing to wait things out a little bit longer.
  10. I prefer to keep as many options as possible available for as long as possible. Despite our recent heartbreaking series against the Tigers, I don't see the situation as dire yet. In another week, it might be. Or it might not be.
  11. He should be the DH. Devers should have stayed at 3B and Bregman should have been at 2B. IMO I understand that this is not our best defensive alignment, but I thought it would have been best for the team at the time.
  12. What are you going to do with Yoshida when he is ready to come off the IL?
  13. Mayer and Anthony might create a spark initially. Then again, they might not. It would be awfully risky to have 3 rookies, who would inevitably go through some growing pains as Campbell seems to be doing right now, on the roster, along with Narvaez (Rookie?) and Abreu.
  14. Devers really, really needs to start taking reps at 1B. When Yoshida is ready to return, Devers needs to be ready to move to first. It simply makes the most sense.
  15. As much as I would like to see the re-emergence of the 7-inning starting pitcher, I can't argue with what the stats overwhelmingly say. Even though the relief pitcher might not get the job done, going to the relief pitcher is usually the right move. I have to admit, though, that there are many times when a starter is cruising and I would have liked for the manager to keep him in the game. {Such internal conflict} LOL The sac bunt has its purpose. I really don't like when a manager calls for a sac bunt with a runner on 1B and no outs. I also don't like when a batter cannot advance a runner from 2B with no outs, whether it's by sac bunt or another means.
  16. It would be nice if we could get a 6-run lead early and not have to worry about our pitching blowing the game. Oh wait.... The good news is, we are undefeated against NL teams. LOL There is no time like tonight to turn this season around. Are we wearing the City Connect jerseys?
  17. Rafaela has looked good in the month of May. Small sample, but he's been hitting.
  18. I get the sense that most people on this site, and Red Sox fans in general, are not going to be happy until both Anthony and Mayer are on the big league roster. I understand the frustration. That said, I'm not willing to bench nor DFA Story yet. It's a lot easier to eat that kind of money when it's someone else's money. Not to mention the depth we will lose if we DFA him. After a slow start (4 games) in March, Story had a 3-week stretch in April where he slashed .378/.403/.608/1.011, with a wRC+ of 183. Since then, he's had a 3-week stretch where he's been abysmal, slashing .115/.179/.154..332, with a wRC+ of -12. Both streaks have been fueled by his BABIP during those stretches. Will he return to the former level of production? Probably not. But it's also not likely that he will continue with the latter level of production. I'd say, give it some more time.
  19. Exactly. A lot can change in just one week. We've seen it happen many times.
  20. I don't understand why the hitting coaches don't convince a guy like Duran to undo this tweak. For that matter, why is it that a player's teammate will often be the one to correct an 'error' in a struggling batter's stance or swing? Why aren't the coaches spotting these things?
  21. That's all I'm saying. There is hope for the season moving forward.
  22. The Red Sox have the 5th best run differential in the league. They are not as bad as their sub .500 average indicates.
  23. This series was painful. PAINFUL I know that a 1-run loss counts the same as a 5-run loss in the standings, but you can typically judge the talent of a team better by its record in blowout games (5+ runs) than you can by their record in 1-run games. The good news for the Red Sox is that their record in blowout games is 8-5, a .615 winning percentage, versus a .250 winning percentage in 1-run games. Good things are coming.
  24. Same with the Twins. They were 13-20 on May 2. They are now 23-20. I don't expect the Red Sox to win 10 games in a row, but it's certainly possible for them to go on a nice run.
  25. Our team has been pitching well. Let's hope it continues.
