Red Sox lost. You know how it goes.

I'm happy they got Contreras. I wish they also got Alonso, but understand that it's not my money and know cheapo Henry doesn't want to play with the big boys anymore.

I’m not going to cry about missing out on Alonso, who I’ve never thought of a built for Fenway  (unless you like wall-ball singles).  The Sox were 7th in MLB in runs scored and lost Bregman and Toro/Lowe.  It wasn’t hard hard to envision status quo there, which plenty of pundits did…

Too many people assumed Story would just do '25 all over again.

I would kind of say the same thing for Romy TBH. He is a guy who didn't get a lot of run and has only had one very good season being something other than a platoon guy.

Duran is impossible to project, but I won't hold it against people who thought '25 was a good baseline.

Even post-Raffy trade, the Sox were still 8th in runs scored. Can't blame much on moving Devers TBH. It was just Story/Duran/Durbin ineptness early on coupled with the Roman injury that set the season in motion.

What’s creepy is not understanding the fascination with Alonso. I mean why would anyone not want the best run producer in baseball the past 5 years, and especially when he was out there for the taking. Of course bresLOW had Bregman on his radar instead, and didn’t get either one.

"If Bregman wanted to be here -- " spewed Sam Kennedy...

... here, let me finish:

"-- then he'd want a no-trade clause so he could stay here!"

How hard was that?

I forgot, it's "company policy" not to give a no-trade to any player you sign, for when you want to get out of paying him all that money you literally agreed to in the last place.

(so sick of liars)

If Bregman would have signed there wouldn’t have been any Ranger anyway, so I have no idea what another pitcher would have done, but he wouldn’t have been $130M either.

I doubt  a cheaper pitcher goes more inings than Suarez, and if did by a little, he'd have likely done worse.

Yes Alonso would have replaced the Con Man with a BIGGER bat, which was needed.🤭

Stick to Alonso vs Yoshida.

Who?

Everyone on here who assumes no backsliding.

"They had X runs in '25 and only lost Bregman who was replaced by Contreras. Should have been fine!"

Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Kyle Schwarber, Yordan Alvarez, Juan Soto, Freddie Freeman, Ronald Acuna Jr, Mookie Betts, Bobby Witt Jr, Jose Ramirez and others all say hi.

That wasn't from faith in Story.

Some had hopes in a full year from Anthony, or at least more PAs.

Some expected further growth from the many pre-prime and prime batters. (Me & others.)

Some realized Bregman only played 2/3 a season, so a "full Bregman" replacement wasn't needed.

All those posters who loved Casas (LOL) felt he'd help.

All those posters who hyped the prospects (LOL) felt we'd have 3 rookie all stars (LOL.)

I don't recall anyone saying they expected even the exact same from the 33 year old Story.

Imagine Brez trading Tolle, Mayer and Early for Jose Ramirez, only to see him hit .688.

The love fest would have been enormous.

Yes, and they are all looking up at Alonso, and his 576 RBI the past 5 years. He is also 4th in Home runs during that time. You would to go a long ways down the list to find the Con Man. Don’t set a low bar when you could have had better.

I wish we had Alonso, but the RBI argument is way out of fashion- and for good reason, this time.

Some had a lot more than hopes of little A just having a full year, and those who did were not concerned he was only 22, and didn’t have many MLB AB under his belt.

Alonso had 16 more HR. 32 More RBI, scored 32 more runs' and played in 30 more games than the Con Man. Con Man had a higher OPS. Which numbers would have helped the Red Sox more in 2026? What Alonso put up,  or what the Con Man put up?🤔

The numbers are the numbers, and in the books for 2026, and you can’t change them. OPS doesn’t change the numbers that counts the most that go on the scoreboard.

Then what were the Red Sox going to do if Bregman signs with the Sox, which would have meant no Ranger?

Some had "hopes" and still wanted Alonso.

No matter how many times we point out RBIs are greatly aided by more opportunities, you carry the blind man's stick onward.

Alonso is a GREAT power hitter. If he's available, every team should seriously consider picking him up. He's also been reliably healthy.

Since '22:

4th in HR

12th R

8th ISO

14th wRC+

Sure, buddy.

It's sill to claim there was a large (or even moderate) group of posters who had faith in Story coming close to '25 numbers.

We shoulda signed him and traded Duran & Story.

I'd have said Yoshida, but nobody wants him.

The 2026 numbers are in the books,. Whose numbers listed above would have helped the Red Sox the most. Alonso, or Con Man? I fully understand what RBI entails, and Alonso had 16 more RBI just on homers alone.

Can't get RBI's if guys are not getting on base in front of you. Is that the only thing you're judging by is RBIs???

Exactly! That’s all I’m saying, and the Red Sox had their chance.

He probably still wants Renfroe back.
