He's also a switch hitter.

I was not very high on him, but he might help just enough.

He's a better hitter than either Wong or Narvaez. He is a plus defender.

He had 91 wRC+ in a "down" season last year.

I would consider Adley for prospects outside our top 5. Retain Narvy and Wong as to not disrupt our pitching. Ease Rutschman back as DH and let him learn the staff over time. Offseason we can trade the odd man out when more teams may be looking for a C.

Your plan that seems more logical less emotional…….. orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I offer an alternative. Let’s ship Narvaez to the moon….,.. Play Adley now go get George springer DH LFG. I can’t handle the automatic out in the lineup.

He hits lefties and righties both well, and mashes at Fenway.

Only a career 697 OPS at Fenway. He had a 721 OPS overall vs the Sox.

Both Narvaez and Wong have options. Just send one to WOO. Having 3 catchers on the roster doesn't work well.

That's why I would consider him a DH to start. Ease him into learning the staff. If and when he shows he's ready to take over behind the plate, we can send someone down.

Same if we got Jeffers.

Why is the Rutschman chatter on the Arias thread? I don't approve of them being swapped for each other unless Gunnar is thrown in.

There wasn't a trade deadline thread. When do posts every stay on topic?

Where are you seeing that? Googling George Springer OPS at Fenway says he has a career .940 OPS. But I don't really trust AI searches, so if you have a more reliable source I'm open to being proven wrong.

Ok, pivoting.

If Rutschman is really out with a wrist injury, once the trade is consummated the Sox staff who play doctors at Fenway will determine he has a torn thumb ligament from hitching to Boston in the rain.

Springer: B-R has .940 career at Fenway (1.054 in 2026)

Rutschman: .697 career at Fenway (.819 in 2026)

Sorry, I have Adley on the brain. I gave you Adley's splits.

Yes, Front offices generally tend to make decisions based on logic over emotion. Iol
I can handle an "automatic out" if that player brings a lot to the table outside hitting, and more importantly, we are winning.

Agreed. DMay as your fall back was lame, although he's doing okay, now.

I'm not sure I agree with the logic.  His performance this year means he was likely a good target last year, even if he under-performed.  He started off with three very good performances.  No way of proving it, but I'd bet trade works out well the majority of the time.

Thank you for confirming that. Not sure what the other was looking at.

I'm not crazy, I'm just a little BagUNwell.

You're probably giving up two guys in the 5-10 range.

Doubt which part? Do you think he did a great job with the Joe Ryan stuff last deadline? Instead of getting players to help down the stretch, he just ended up with Dustin Maye and found himself getting jerked around by the Twins. He was unable to reach out to other teams because of his inexperience. Maybe he'll do better this year.

Ryan had a 4.89/5.01 in August & September last year.  So I am really happy we didn't trade top-tier talent to get him.

Bad defensive team just got worse.

I'm waiting to hear their new defensive alignment.  Rumor has it that that Stott goes to 3B, Bohm goes to 1B, and Harper goes to RF.  4 possible defensive downgrades in one trade.

If Brez botched the clock, I'm kinda glad he did.

After the off-season, when he botched getting Contreras over Alonso, and Durbin over Bregman, FG says that Breslow is the all time leader in botched trades that were out perfectly.

Maybe Primer/Witherspoon for Adley?

slight overpay, which is what you need for MLB player for prospects.

I could do that.  I wouldn't disrupt the team chemistry by adding a catcher, but Rutschman has great tools.  He might be the best all-around catcher between him, Goodman, and Langeliers.  Some injury concerns, but I wouldn't be surprised if emerged to be the AS catcher he was projected to be.

Arraez to 1st, Harper to RF

I always want my catcher to actually be able to catch (unlike Wong). I'd want them to work out an extension with him too.

I was going to add that to my post, but the extra 6 words seemed like too much work.  $20M*4 takes him thru age 33.

I would assume Wong is heading to Baltimore.  Lower trade value increases the returning prospect capital to Baltimore.  And wuth Basallo on the IL, Theyre going to need a catcher to prevent their pitchers from firing everything into the wall behind home plate…

Yes, I was making that point about D May maybe not being all that bad- he just whiffed with us over 1-2 months, but seriously, he was a big step below Ryan, and the two packages show that.
