The hype machine knows no limits.  Campbell, Mayer, Anthony...  The promise of tomorrow.

The hype machine are places like BA, who earn a living rating players.

IRT KC, Mayer and Anthony, it feels like you might be missing someone.  Oh yeah, you are missing:

  • Ceddanne
  • Abreu
  • Tolle
  • Early
  • Bennett
  • Whitlock

Disparaging prospects is always easier when you ignore the successful ones

I am not entirely against trading him,

That's probably the way 99% of the fans feel.  I wouldn't trade Arias for Abrams, Neto, Pena or Goodman.  But I wouldn't be offended.  And if Yordie was available, I'd drive him to Houston myself.

I'll bite:

.925 OPS, 28 HRs and league leading 85 RBIs.

Seigler and Monasterio can still play quite a bit. Durbin needs a day off, too.

Abrams could even DH some.

I'm not betting on 2B and SS being fixed for life.

We just watched a very limited range SS let an easy double play groundball go through for a hit leading to a 3-run inning.  Per StatCast, Abrams range ranks in the bottom 1%, which is as bad as it gets.  Sure, more RBIs.  But how many of them does he give back?

Just use the MI players we have.  Including Arias…

My idea is to play Abrams at 2B, but I was thinking more about starting next year.

You could convince me to start it now.

1. Give Arias a shot at short.  Monasterio to 2b, until his bat stops playing.

2. Trade for a LF and maybe some pitching. 1SO and one RP.  More for depth.

3. Dump Duran out in SD for a solid bench bat in Ty France.

4. Read duck boat manual and learn safety procedures.

If he stops hitting tomorrow, it's too late to trade for a SS.

But both of the Sox AAA shortstops - Arias and Cheng - have high defensive floors…

Or the flip side - what are you fixing?

The Sox are 27-5 in their last 32 games, including 11-0 against teams in first place. They’ve done that with guys named Seigler, Monasterio, Narvaez, etc playing every day.  They’re 12-1 with Cheng and Seigler starting at SS and 2b.

Why bring someone like Abrams into the mix? It’s not broken.

Also it’s beyond silly to make Arias expendable because Campbell didn’t make an immediate impact

I don't disagree.  But I'm also not advocating for an Abrams(his OBP is too low).  But a Skubal?  The Red Sox were not even in the picture.  We have a team of lefties.  We need another righty.

Skubal is a southpaw…

I'm a huge Defensive SS fan, and I'd rather we add a bat at Catcher, but SS options look pretty nice too- on offense.

IMO, we need an arm and a bat. Add Goodman, Jeffers or Hicks and I'm fine with out middle infield.

I'm not thinking LF/DH is a high upgrade need, but that would be okay.

Don't look now, but Yoshida has been one of our best batters for about a month, and the SSS Jones has done great as a platoon LF/DH.

Our worst positions on offense for the season and also the last 1-2 months are...

.617 Catcher (last in fWAR)

.624 2B (20th in fWAR)

.653 LF but 12th in fWAR

.658 DH

.668 SS (26th in fWAR)

June 1st>>>

SS .875/.600 Monasterio/Cheng

LF/DH .710 Yoshida/ .476 Duran and 1.467 Jones (15 PAs)

2B .701 both Seigler & Sogard

SS .699/.391 Wong/Narvaez

I don't care. The names that have been thrown out in trade talks haven't been worth it to me. I'd rather keep Arias in house. No matter what, they have Story coming back and aren't going to make any moves to keep him off the roster. Story becomes a DH? Then Roman comes back at some point? Eventually, all the glue guys that kept this train going are going to be left off the roster and the chemistry will be gone.

I'm tempted to just not mess with a good thing right now. The trade deadline prices are just too exorbitant. Just construct a complete roster in the offseason.

I don't understand trading for a SS that profiles better as a 2b.

I'd rather we get a controlled catcher, but we need a bat. Abrams and Neto are two of the best available, but at what cost?

We may end up using them at 2B and (then) DH.

I'm fine with Yoshida/Romy at DH or even Yoshida/Jones in LF (assuming we finally dump Duran,) so that leaves Catcher, SS and 2B to add a (LH'd) Bat.

I think they could certainly upgrade Romy/Jones and do it cheaply. I think whatever it takes to acquire Abrams and Neto is probably too much. I wouldn't deal Arias for either.

They already acquired Mead for next season, so if you get Abrams or Neto, what's the lineup? Moving Mead to DH? Moving Mead to LF?

I mean, who is the 2B of the future? Story? Mayer?

If Arias is your SS next year (or you hope he is) it certainly makes sense to plug a guy at SS who can slide over to SS now OR next year.

That’s the tricky part that right now things are going so good you don’t want to change much to interrupt anything, but at some point this fast train is going to slow down, or stop, and then what?

If they aren't trading Arias, fine. DFA Story in the offseason. Trade Masa and eat 50% of salary. Trade Duran for prospects.

C Narvaez

1B Contreras

2B Abrams

SS Arias

3B Durbin

RF Abreu

CF Rafaela

LF Anthony

DH Mead

Bench Monasterio, Seigler, Wong, OF 4 Acquisition

Which of the players are the reason for keeping it running fast. If they are pulled of the line, does it cause the train to slow down?

Monasterio has been killing it, but Story is going to come back. Sox have always deferred to him.

That was Cora, and this is a whole different situation now not just with Tracy, but the ball club itself, and especially how they are playing at the moment. Of course things may look different when Story is ready to come back, but even then I’m not sure how much help Story will be if any.

3. Can the Red Sox get another infielder?

Boston surprised a good many onlookers in the industry by trading young left-hander Connelly Early for Curtis Mead amid Mead’s post-hype breakout in Washington. Mead, of course, fractured his wrist almost immediately after the swap, putting the Red Sox right back in the market for an infielder — ideally a shortstop, it seems. They’ve tried on Miami’s Otto Lopez and the Angels’ Zach Neto but been unwilling to put elite prospects like 20-year-old shortstop Franklin Arias on the block. Is there an under-the-radar target they could pursue? Will they instead cave and bite the bullet on someone like Arias or right-hander Anthony Eyanson? And, will the Sox finally subtract from their long-publicized glut of lefty-swinging outfielders?

I think it's likely that if they do acquire a SS, it's someone we're not already talking about. They go out and get a guy that is a marginal upgrade who has no control and it doesn't cost very much.

I agree about 95%.  IRT to 'I don't care', I don't think you base your decisions on what might happen.  If we don't trade for SS, and Monasterio collapses, and IKF, Arias and Story don't work out, then them's the breaks.

The prices might be exorbitant, but I'd still have all the phone lines open.  I'd be real comfortable to sit back until 5:00 and see which teams still don't have a date for the dance.

5:00 is too late TBH. Breslow has shown that he hasn't been able to work under pressure like that.

Yoshida should be our DH and Anthony should be our LF.  And we might still have Duran.

I don't think the roster works with all three. At least one has to go.
