Witt isn’t an option because KC isn’t trading him.  And every reason you come up with about why they should is a superficial rationalization that, upon better securing, makes absolutely zero sense.

Can you name one player to sign one of those mega extensions snd then get traded 2 years later?  The Royals signed Witt because he was their best chance at winning, and a bad season doesn’t mean tear it down, trade Bobby for a dozen prospects, and hope one pans out and becomes extension-worthy…

A guy isn't available just because you want him, some teams are just not putting certain players on the market. It's the dude who keeps asking the same girl out on facebook messenger for years......no means no dude, the Royals aren't interested.

Stanton was traded 3 years into his 13 year $300 contract….

Fair point.  Although actually it was 4 years.

Stanton was traded when his contract escalated from $6.5mill (2 years) to $9.5mill to $14.5mill and then he was dealt when it was at $25mill.  That same point for Witt will be after 2027 when his salary reaches  $31mill.

So maybe in 2 years, they’ll talk…

Devers…. Nolan Arenado

Like Stanton, Arenado was traded when his salary peaked.  Devers ran himself out of town, which Witt hasn’t done yet.

But what Stanton, Arenado and Devers all had in common was their teams were openly looking to move them. (Ok, Devers move was sudden and not open, but came from an untenable internal situation.)

KC isn’t looking to move Witt yet, and Witt isn’t forcing the issue as far as anyone knows.   KC has no reason to move Witt, especially if they learned anything from the Marlins and saw the devastating effect moving Stanton (and Yelich) had on their attendance…

But you aren’t trading half your team your trading half your prospects. T

The future team is made up of a sizable chunk of current prospects.

Tolle was the "prospect" everyone wanted last year. He's a top 5 building block on the current team, right now.

I get your point, though. Many of our current players have several years of control, so the "building around" aspect is not "half the team." My guess is KC will want at least one young player from the 26 along with 4-5 top prospects, including Eyanson & Arias.

I am also one that thinks about budget limits, and using trade capital and budget space for one guy scares me. One or the other is scary enough. Both is terrifying.

As much as Brez has flipped the roster names on this team in under 3 years, we still have these guys that were prospects while in the Sox system, even after the Early, Teel, Monty, Perales and other top prospects trade-aways:

'25-'26: Tolle, Anthony, Narvaez, Mayer, Watson & Samaniego

'23-'24: Rafaela, Abreu, Slaten, Sogard, Casas & Kelly

'22 and earlier: Whitlock, Houck, Duran, Crawford, Bello & Wong

We've already used a pretty big chunk of our top prospect group to add some major pieces to this team and its outlook:

Crochet, Contreras, Gray, Bennett & Mead, Durbin, Slaten (Pivetta way back)plus some lesser deals like...

Oviedo, O'Neill, Weissert, Siegler, Monasterio,  and some deadline deals that did not do all that well (D Jansen, L Garcia, L Sims, Paxton, DMay & Matz)

I'm just not sure how deep we want to raid the farm. I'm not for planning on the next cliff.

I'm not against trading top prospects. I like the ones we've done. If we trade for someone like Witt, Abrams, Neto and others with 3+ years of control, I'd be okay trading Arias, but after trading Early, I'm not sure I'd deal Arias and Eyanson plus more top 8-13 prospects.

Of course every prospect and even most to all vets have an element of "suspect" in them. Prospects have a higher percentage by nature.

All true, but if someone calls with a blow-away offer, I think KC listens.

Going by BTV values, I would not give what it would take to get Witt. Guys like Neto, Abrams, Lindor maybe.

I'm not giving up Eyanson for a guy who needs to be moved off SS and whose plate approach resembles Trevor Story.

Not sure all the love for Neto. Didn’t we just get a poor fielding middle IFer? We have a stud in AAA that we should give a look first…I’m not a Neto fan. At all. Pass

A Neto/Mead MIF would be a huge step backwards for this team. They'd hit more, but the pitching would suffer.

Just so you know, Neto is a huge fan of yours.

Or was, until this post…

We’re most likely looking at a Story-Mead middle infield.  Is Neto really a step down?

I don't want Neto or Story.

If Neto looks like near retirement Story at SS while in his mid-20's, why trade for him???

Hey, I prefer Cheng right now.  But when Story gets activated, it won’t be to watch Cheng, Mayer or Monasterio play his position.

I suppose Breslow could just never activate Story.  But I doubt he thinks so nefariously…

That's what you think.

Neto is not a good fit unless you're moving him to 2nd, in which case Mead was acquired to be your DH, which in that case.....what to do with Yoshida? who has actually hit well.

Neto is (a) a very high price point and (b) a guy that has been plastered in trade talks all over the media. Doesn't seem like a Breslow move at all.

Does he have a name you are legally allowed to reveal?

Is this guy related to the unknighted Anthony Volpe I was watching butcher routine grounders against the Phillies last night?

The Yankees do not appreciate him, this much appears to be true.  And I think he gets moved in the next week, with the Braves atop the list of destinations…
