I’ll make a prediction.

After being linked to several bigger names and coming up short, once the dust settles, Breslow acquires RHSP Seth Lugo and RHH 1b/DH Ty France…

I agree with Notin, I dont think we need a starter - even minus Early.....With : Gray/Suarez/Tolle/Bennet/Sandoval/Bello....You can still get Crochet back for playoffs and maybe some others too.  That being said:

I include Early in my trade for either Shange dangly-ears or Hunter S Goodman

I make another trade acquiring Gleybar Torres at modest cost

If farm not too emptied, I try to get a DH/LF on the cheap as well.  Maybe a Spencer Steer, he can prob play 1b when Contreras has to sit for his suspension (thats happening at some point, right)

I very much disagree.  The pitching has been absolutely amazing this year, but it's also been decimated.

The guys you have left pitching great are going to go way over their pitching limits.  All of this is for nothing if we get to the post season and Tolle/Early/Bennett are useless.

There's also no gurantee you get Crochet back before the playoffs.  these pitchers take 4-6 weeks to ramp up in spring training and he's nowhere near even starting a rehab assignment.  We really need to start thinking about him not coming back this year.

JB is at 99 innings, his career high is 75

PT is at 105 innings.....this is his career high.

You have two months left in the season and will need innings in the playoffs.  You still have Early/Suarez on the IL and have no ideal when Crochet will be back if this year at all.

This team needs a starter.  It doesn't have to be anyone good but they need a starter who can give them innings.

I would be fine with Seth Lugo, I don't need a big name on the pitching side....just an innings eater.  I'd save all the chips for offense.

HOU is in buy mode. We're going to trade Duran to them for prospects.

He'll trade for Neto and Goodman, and some in here will complain that JH was too cheap to trade for Lindor & Langeliers.

That's 30 million for ONE year, and it's not even 30 million because its pro-rated to only 36% of the salary today.  So if that trade was made today they're adding only about $10 million in Salary.

They might look to shed some money to get below that third threshold, but they'd only need to dump 1-2 million

True, but the Lindor money continues for many more years.

If we include Story, his money goes away after 2027.

KC or Bello would be longer lasting, assuming they are interested in one or both.

I'm not against Lindor. There is a good chance he has 2-3 more good years. I'd just rather sign a guy like him than trade top prospects for him and then pay FA type money, anyway.

1-If you adding top prospects, then you are not paying FA money.

2-Since Mayer is the name being bandied about, is he still a top prospect?  If he were still eligible, I doubt he'd be in the top-50.  Let's say that Bregman, Alonso and were all appropriately priced.  If the Mets gave us a $60M discount for including Mayer, it is the equivalent of selling Mayer for $60M.  Would you not do that?

Who is there to sign? free agency gets worse every year and there's very little going on the market in years to come.  Lindor is not Story, and before this year he's been nothing but healthy and not only has he stayed on the field banged up but now that he's recovered he's been swinging a hot bat the past 3-4 weeks.

You're also trading maybe one top prospect for him, as opposed to 3-4 if you wanted a younger guy.

The younger guy at a fraction of the cost may allow us to extend Gray by a year or two, or we could sign Jeffers, BLowe, Torres and many other rentals being mentioned, now as big fills to our current needs.

I hear you , I feel like we pay a premium for Lindor that we need not.  I wouldnt hate it but its not on my ideal.  Hers my ideal:

One of: Langeliers, Goodman, Neto (Early goes in this trade + prospects)

One of: Blowe, Gleybar Torres, Arraez, Jeffers (if Neto is selected from the above group)

One of: steer/addell/bell/hoskins...maybe teoscar....a dh/lf/1b bat that doesnt need to play everyday

And lugo to replace early

Give me like Langeliers, Torres, steer , lugo and ill be soooo happy.

We may be lucky to get just 2 players from all you listed, and they'd probably be Steer and the underwater Lugo.

My most I could imagine might be Langeliers and Torres.

Neto and Jeffers would be, too.

Most likely possible and what I'd like? Jeffers & Torres/B Lowe

This is a solid guess based off history. I could truly see this happening and hopefully France turns into 80% of Steve Pearce lol

Lugo & G Torres seems more likely.

please no. I’ve hated Torres since the Yankees I don’t know why just looks like he doesn’t love the game

I'd prefer B Lowe, but Torres is a RHB.

I'd like and think possible: Jeffers & BLowe. (If Lugo is a straight dump, then hell yes! Add him.)

I’m not against Lugo at all. And if you need to put Early in a trade and replace him with Lugo I think that would be fantastic. I still don’t love the idea of getting a 2B and banking on Story coming back. I love their defensive play without Story at SS. I think when he comes back defense drops off again. I’d prefer a SS a solid defensive one in Pena or Neto and maybe look at a Story/Siegler/Meyer pairing at 2B.

but I agree with a lot of people that maybe it’s a LHB they need because how horrendous they’ve been against RHP which leads more towards a Lindor/Abrams trade but neither Lindor or Abrams are long term SS and I don’t think you can put Arias in a trade unless it’s Pena/Neto.

Torres is hitting RHPs 240 points higher this year but his career is .745 v R and .840 v L.

BLowe kills RHP and is deserving of a platoon v L. .859/.606 this year and .842/.682 career (not terrible v L)

Jeffers is the all-around killer: .938 v R and .966 v L, this year. That's better than Willson! Career .712 vs .860.

Jeffers and either one is fine with me, if we go the rental route.

If Lugo is close to free for the taking- maybe offer KC or Bello, I'd do it. BTV accepts:

Bello, KC and Wong

for

Lugo and Salvador Perez, but SP is a .621 DH with 14 dingers, but he kills lefties. (So does Romy!)

Bello, KC, Phillips and $8M for Lugo is accepted

So Story is your answer at SS because you aren’t putting Gleyber or B Lowe there. I love B Lowe but SS is the bigger issue I feel, we are getting great defense at 2B but we are getting bad def and offense at SS
