Without getting unrealistic or making up fake names (like “Yordan”), who do you think the Sox need to add?

Someone who can pop the ball out of the ballpark, preferably from the right side. The one common denominator in the streak hasn't been better hitting but simply hitting balls over the fence. Prime example tonight: 6 hits but 7 runs on 3 homers.

Another power threat not only contributes from the batter's box, but stretches out the line-up by upping pitch counts and altering foe strategies when they're worried about one more guy on deck or lurking near the bat rack in the dugout.

It doesn't have to be a '21 Schwarber... even a 1988 Larry Parrish would help (nod to the last Boston club that canned their skipper and then won 12 straight).

Have already mentioned guys like France, Steer, Reynolds, Walker/Paredes/Pena (who knows what Houston will do), Riley Greene (Detroit has to get something for Skubal before he bolts, which means everyone else is available). Should at least try to see what it will take to get someone to deal a Heriberto Hernandez or Casey Schmitt or Zach Gelof. Adell is probably out now that we've added Jahmai Jones.

Realistically, though, we all know with this administration it's going to be either Josh Bell or Geno Suarez. And even I will admit either still can help this sorry O make the postseason.

'This administration' has been doing really well.

Riley is unlikely to move, and those Astros are buyers per MLBTR.

And Josh Bell really is an underrated hitter.  I prefer Ty France, Steer, or Ward, but we could do worse.

Blab on the net and social media is that Langeliers -- righthanded home run hitter and All-Star catcher -- is available. A's are starved for good young pitching; Red Sox are stocked with it.

There's no reason to include anyone already in the big league rotation because we can offer Eyanson and the A's pick of either Witherspoon, Valera, Delzine, Phillips, Holobetz, etc. I'd even consider Bello (not the one who isn't owed $55 million).

Fans against giving up more pitching prospects should consider this scenario: if this were the draft and Boston had its pick of a home run hitting catcher that could boost postseason chances right now or pitchers with future potential... is there any debate?

You could offer Early if you wanted. Sox have young arm depth.

Langeliers would be perfect, but is there net scuttlebutt accurate?  MLBTR, for example, does not think he’s available.

At a minimum, Langeliers is controlled through 2028, so no rush to move him.  And I have to think the Athletics would like to debut in Vegas with a lineup featuring Kurtz, Langeliers, Rooker, Butler, Soderstrom and Wilson.  That does look like one to sell tickets.

But I could also see them dealing someone (not named Kurtz) for pitching, as well.

He supposedly turned down an $80 million dollar extension.

Thus, the notion that a smart small-market franchise might trade him for more future stars who might sign extensions... mainly so they can play with the big boys after the move to Vegas: blackjack, roulette, craps, etc.

I'd probably go this route, assuming they'd value Early more than the others, which they might not.

But if we did go this route, then I'd expect that the As would want to see Early pitch to assess his arm.  I don't think we have the time for that.

I actually like to see that in a trade.  When teams have guys on the block that make no sense, like Clevinger in 2020, I suspect I am inheriting some issues.  When guys are traded for payroll reasons, or rebuilds, that makes more sense to me.

Mass Live had someone suggest ...

Early, Witherspoon, Mayer, Narvaez to COL

for Goodman.

Is he DH'ing when he doesn't catch?

That trade was proposed by Bowden as 1 of 5 trades he threw out there.

oh that kid would be an unbelievable get, especially since the evil empire is looking for a catcher, the only thing is Colorado has him under control for a few more years and they have new investors so I am not sure they will give him up

the nationals are shopping Luis Garcia Jr who has experience at 2nd base, nice right handed bat

No, he's left handed.

But he’s an even better left-handed bat, which is why he only hits from that side during games…

I will file next to his last year’s “Peyton Tolle for Nate Lowe” trade suggestion…

Good player, but we might be buying high.  He's had a fairly pedestrian career so far.  He's having a good year, but his HR/FB of 23% is likely unsustainable.  He was scorching hot, but went 1-16 in his last 5 games with 5 Ks.  And the Nats sat him on the 17and 19th.  It's pretty unusual to see regulars benched in two games so close together.  It feels like an undisclosed injury or something.

Some Goodman career splits of note:

.838 at Coors and .777 away (not bad) /same HR totals

.865 v L and .785 v R (not bad)

He hits over 45 HRs per 650.

I didn't look that up because I watched the nationals recently and could have sworn he was on the right side, my bad

Onley for what it’s worth is reporting the Red are now buying, and want a RHB, and pitching.

We’ll, those are the needs so I guess we’ll see if Breslow can handle this

Trading Early is probably higher than I'd go, but if he comes back, he'll be limited in innings for 2026 anyway.

IMO, we need to keep Early or Eyanson but could included Witherspoon or Phillips, if needed. Of all these 4, I'd keep Eyanson, although I'm still a big Early supporter.

I'd trade Duran, but I doubt we get what he might be worth, even to us.

Mayer still has some value, but we need middle infielders, as is. Trade for one with control, and Mayer is on my list to trade.

Trade for a catcher, and I'm fine with adding Wong or Narvaez to a trade. Even catchers like them have value.

I'm not sure IKF has any value, even if we pay his full boat.

Here is the pitching depth chart for 2027 (no Gray or Sandoval)

Crochet, Suarez, Tolle, Bennett, Early

Bello, Houck, Crawford, Oviedo, Rivera

Eyanson, Holobetz, Wehunt, Paez, Anderson

Pen

Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Moran, Weissert, Guerrero

Watson, Kelly, La Sorsa, Uberstine, Samaniego, Gamboa

Mullins, Rogers, Ziehl, Monegro, Olds, Song, Coffey

I don't know how that guy gets to keep cashing checks? Maybe his sense of humor?
