If Texas is asking for Tolle and Mayer, thats a big step down…

If they want Tolle and Mayer , they are going to have to eat A LOT of contract.

I do Cedanne and Harrison with $0 eaten.

It depends on the wording.

”Best position playing Ranger.”  I go Palmeiro.

””Best position player to play for the Rangers”   Thats ARod easily…

I left Palmeiro out because I was a fan of him as a kid, and it hurt that hes a cheat. AROD cheating doesnt bother me as much (it should) but I left him out because I dont picture him as a ranger.

Whatever, didnt put a lot of thought into it.

The thing that gets me is that plan B (K Marte) will cost players/prospects and cash, when Alonso was just cash.

What's plan C, because chances are plan B ain't happening. either.

Bregman and Polanco?

Plan D? Suarez and Polanco?

We're gonna outbid two teams? LMAO!

Right now best case is prob 2 of Bregman, Geno, Marte

The Mets’ lack of interest is intriguing.  They refused to go beyond one year last time.  Why does the team that knows him best show so little interest?

And 29 teams either didn't want to offer him a contract or go longer than 3 years. 🤔

Chris Davis was a monster at 29 and unplayable by 32. Maybe a lot of teams are projecting massive regression?

Apparently they've been banging the drum about wanting to get better defensively. That would align with passing on Alonso.

You can bang the drum about defense all you want. If you can't score enough runs you don't win ballgames. And 1st base is the easily the LEAST important defensive position on the field.

The Red Sox lost not one but two power bats in Devers and Bregman. They are going to struggle to score this year if they don't find a comparable replacement in the lineup.

Thats fine, If I read right now that the Red sox traded Cedanne, Campbell and Harrison for Seager with no money eaten, Id be popping bottles.

If you're going to pay Seager $189M to age 37, you might as well pay Bregman $150M to age 36 and keep everyone.

Says a lot then that he jumped at an offer that was the same as Schwarber's, but 1M more per year. Orioles outbid themselves it seems.

Either Rubenstein is moving in a lot of money, or Elias is feeling the heat after last season.  They've gone from $89M to $126M to $177M, and they are currently at $178M and need at least one more good SP, maybe 2.

I always consider that.  I always like to see the motivation when teams allow players to leave, especially teams where payroll is no issue.

Cohen is obviously putting a lot of faith in Stearns.  Hard to see what direction they're headed in right now, though.

If I had read that we traded for Seager yesterday I would have been in celebration mode. I would have popped a bottle.  If I read today, that we resigned Bregman, guess what? We're running it back and popping a second bottle.

And do you know what else I think. You, Joe, would be like wow. A little shocked at first.  Youd be cautious at first. Youd explain how you didnt think it would ever happen.  Youd be a little nervous of the tying up the finances/drop-offs/not being able to address additional needs that may arise for a while.  These would be avlid concerns.  And then you'd come around and join the celebration yourself.  And we'd let you on the party bus.

It's entirely possible that Stearns has a plan that he is not sharing with the fans.  Fans are freaking out on FAN.  My guess is that they are landing Tucker at a price that will be a discount to Alonso's value, and they will follow that up with a #2 SP.

I never too excited about these things, for a couple of reasons.

  • The payroll number will be one of the driving factors.  If we spend $263,999,999, we're getting some good players.  They might be HR hitters, they might great glove/good bat players, or they might the #2 SP I want.  But we will get some good talent.
  • Most of what we do in here is fantasy baseball.  A lot of educated guesses, but still guesses.  I like Okamoto & Kim.  I might even be more right than wrong, but it is still my amateur opinion.
  • And as I always mention, there are a dozen ways to build a team.  Paying a high price for Greene will make us a great team.  Paying a lesser price for Marte will make us a very good team.  Paying for Okamoto & Kim, and keeping prospects, will make us a very good team.  We could trade either Duran or Abreu, or any of our 6-10 SPs, or Campbell and acquire some good talent.

If Alonso was Plan A, the Sox would have signed him.

Sure. If he was willing to take a huge discount for playing for the Flops. Again this year Henry is playing the cheapskate role. We aren't getting anyone of significance and we are wasting  our window. We have our ace and we have a budding superstar in Anthony. But they need supporting players. And its clear that isn't going to happen......but just wait til next year, right?

Again.

Although Ceddanne cuts off about $6M on the AAV, JH would not permit this trade.

I think TEX would have to pay some salary or take Yoshida and or Hicks to help balance the cost.

I don't think we should do this trade.

I agree. We already have players that can't stay healthy. THE Rangers  asks will be high and they won't want eat any of the money.
