I think he thinks bregmans market wont warrant a comparable contract to alonso (his opinion , not mine)

I thought alonso was getting 6 and was wrong, but I do think bregman is getting at least 140.  He didnt opt out to get a worse deal.

Well, $140M is pretty close to $155M. If it's 4 years, the AAV and tax hit would be higher.

Personally, I still think Bregman gets above 155m.

My bad!!  I know it!!  I have a whole staff to do my business research for me. But I am too lazy to do my own baseball research!!

If I had to guess, I'd say $150M/5 or $130M/4.

Paez taken with second pick by CWS. No other Sox player drafted.

Sox drafted nobody.

I don’t think the Sox could.  I’m unclear on all the criteria, but there are deadlines for the roster and I think teams need to have an open spot on that day.  The Sox did not.

I am surprised Paez over Mullens…

Bregman basically screwed himself by batting.231 over the last two months.
He’s not going to get what he wants.

At the end of last year the Flops couldn’t score runs. Now it’s pretty clear Henry is too cheap to fix that problem with some quality bats. The Flops have become a second class franchise.

The A’s selected RHP Ryan Watson from SF and will be trading him to Boston.  Watson’s Rule 5 status will follow him to Boston.

Watson, 28, is a former college teammate of recently departed RHP Richard Fitts.

Me too!  Lower walk rate and 4 pitches? That’s all I can think of

We had a roster slot open and still do. (Grissom deal.)

Apparently the Flops offer was unsurprisingly a low ball offer. We aren’t getting anyone of significance. I can hardly wait to hear the excuses:

I thought the opening had to be by the Rule 5 deadline in order to draft.  Thats in the first week of December.

I could be wrong.  I trust mvp will correct if I am.

The Grissom deal created a spot for Watson…

I am not even sure they will even sign Bregman. And even if they do it’s just marching in place without improving the offense at all.
Henry has to sell the team. Fans have to boycott the park until management gets serious about presenting a team that can compete for a ring. It’s the only way.

I found this with no mention of an earlier date:

Only teams with available spots on their 40-man roster can participate in the Major League phase.

I think we could have drafted, but traded for a Rule 5 guy instead.

If all we do is sign Bregman and some mid level RP'er, I'm going to be super pissed off.

I'd say I'll boycott games, but I haven't been in 2 years.

I'd say I'll stop watching NESN, but I'm an addict needing my fix.

You dont need to punish yourself.  We know you love your sox.  We know you want better.  Im bummed too

I dont even really know how this is fixable, if we werent even close on alonso, you can prob rule out bichette and bregman

We'll prob overpay for Paredes in prospect cost hurting us in both the short term and long term. Then get a 2 yr deal with an opt out after 1 for a 3rd tier first baseman.

I don't need to self flagellate. The Sox FO does a fine job by themselves.

I'm tired or hearing, "but there is still ____ and ____ on the market."

We keep missing out on the tippy top talent, and it's tippy top talent who wear the rings.

Sophmores slump and Im not expecting superstar numbers out of Anthony. Hes good but hes a leadoff hitter without the wheels. Hes not going to carry our offense. Hes too young for that. No news is bad news for crapass.  I hear about Tatum working his butt off to get back all the time, its radio silence on crapass.  Hes not going to be ready, and even if he is, hes not in shape, and hes going to get hurt again, because hes unathletic and fat.

I know theyll get the payroll to a respectful number somehow, but its going to be overpaid short term deals because they are scared money at the table.

Sadly, we may back ourselves into such a dark corner that the only way out is to trade away the future and end up like 2020 in 2030, just to get a sniff at one ring before then.

I think there’s about a 40% chance they sign Bregman. They’ll lowball him too followed by the inevitable excuses. Then they’ll sign some lower level guys and expect the fans to swallow stool again. Enough! I haven’t been to a game in years either as I live 3000 miles away-but I certainly hope those who have been supporting the cheapskate by showing up at the park will boycott it.

What’s funny is we did all this heavy lifting for years to set up THE window.

We could of had Devers, Bregman lined up, Roman Anthony ascending, Crochet killing it, the whole core forming… then we traded pieces away, because we couldn’t manage egos, but with the promise that we’d “re-deploy the money.” That was crap

We were “going to be active at the deadline.” Bull Crap

“We’ll add a middle-of-the-order bat with real pop.” Bull Crap again.

It feels like I’m watching what should’ve been the final season of Game of Thrones — years of setup, everything pointing toward a legendary finale, everything falling into place — and instead we’re out here burning the city down…….. WHY? because our analytics says we can’t go 5 years on a guy who plays 162 every year hits 35-40 HR’s and basically guarantees 100+ RBI’s every year.

Yes but they were “ very interested” in the top tier players. That has to count for something doesn’t it?

We don't need five to six $10M players: we need two $30M guys.

The thing is, Fred, Bregman doesn't do it for me.

They've molded many fans into thinking running the same team back is some sort of accomplishment. (Not you.)

Last opening day, we had Bregman.

We also had Devers, Gio, Refsnyder and high hopes for Houck, Duran, Abreu and others  and moderate hopes for Anthony, Mayer, Campbell, Casas, Hendriks and so many others.
