Schlittler is all FB/Cutter and everything else kinda stinks. Strikes out a lot of guys, but will put a lot of guys on too. The worst starts he's had is when teams have worked walks against him. He's pitched worse at home and worse vs LHB.

So who starts at 2b tonight? Hamilton? Does Wong start at catcher?

I figure the Sox

Good strategy! Play all the guys who fold their pants up at the knees -- keep reminding that kid from Mass as much as possible who he's facing in the Bronx with all the pressure in the world: the RED Sox.

Schlittler grew up in Walpole and went to Northeastern, all the time rooting for his entire family's favorite team -- the RED Sox. Leg him on.

Cora should also play Marcelo Mayer tonight because he shows all of his RED socks, too.

Go Boston Subliminal Billboards.

I'd like to go back to last night's 7th inning when Eaton "failed" to score on Yoshida's single.  You have to see the camera angle from behind 3d base.  When you do, you see that when Eaton was rounding third the ball had not yet gone through the first baseman.  Thus his pause about 3 strides toward home.   When it did get through, it was too late to crank back up and head for home, especially when the Yankees first baseman recovered quickly.  To score on that play the third base coach had to believe the ball was going through the first baseman before it in fact it did go thru.  A very tough call.

Hamilton, maybe? If Romy was a better FB hitter, I'd go with him, but he's not that guy.

Everything you say makes sense. But if Eaton was truly sprinting as fast as he can on the 3-2 pitch, he's not slowing up because there are two outs. "Scoring on contact."

Even if Rice picks the bounced throw, he would have been in an awkward position to turn, set, and peg it home. Eaton at full steam would've been halfway to the plate, and then the Yanks would need a perfect throw, perfect catch and perfect tag to nail him.

It's always the chance you take -- in a tie game, late innings on the damn road.

Of course, CHB is talking about 1978 in his article today. This dude ran out of ideas once the Sox won in '04.

If the Sox win, does that mean it erases a game that happened 47 years ago? Probably not, because where would the next column come from?

Can't listen to EPSN's announcers for even one inning, but give the network credit for finally not showing any more clips of crap that happened last century. Wonder how many current "technicians" were even alive in the 1970s...

They did focus on this century, since these two teams have faced off in the postseason in 03, 04, 18, 21, and now 25. That's plenty.

But can ESPN resist the temptation to show the Babe, Bucky or even Buckner tonight? Doubt it

Soagart, It's not even a question.

The Yankees should be favored again tonight as they had to be favored before both games 1 and game 2.  In game 1 Crochet had the edge, but not by much.  Tried pitched a scoreless 6.1 innings.  And the Yankees had by far the better lineup/hitting.  Cora kept Crochet in for 117 pitches and 7.2 innings, during which he gave up 1 run, and Chapman got the final 4 outs, not without heart palpitations here on talksox.  The first 3 Yankee hitters in the 9th hit singles--bases loaded no outs.

Last night Bello was awful, lasting 2.1 IP with 2 ER's--again against the best lineup in MLB and with a very good Yankees starter, Rodon.   But the Sox almost won thanks to the bullpen and some clutch hitting and despite Duran dropping a line drive he had on but not in his glove--as we saw him do earlier this season.

The Yankees have scored just 5 runs in 2 games at Yankee Stadium, but it's still possible they will erupt tonight.  Plus their starter Schlittler was terrific in September.

Were I Cora I would start righty bat Eaton in RF and not lefty bat Abreu because he simply has not found his stroke.

Definitely Rafaela in CF, Duran in LF, Bregman at 3B, Story at SS, Lowe at 1b, Narvaez catching, and Yoshida at DH.

That leaves 2b and three choices--Gonzalez the semi-regular who was hitless in games 1 and 2, Hamilton the defensive hawk, and Sogard whose OPS in games 1 and 2 was/is .833.   I'm fine with whoever Cora goes with.

BTW I can't stand Jazz Chisholm. He's a f***ing punk. He's a f***ing insufferable arrogant prick. He literally bitches in every single strike call. Dresses and looks like a clown especially with that ridiculous haircut. He can't even put his cap right. He's always looking for attention. He can't even be a man and address the media properly. Whata f***ing *******.

All good points.  However, Eaton couldn't see jack at 1b and had to rely on the 3B coach who had to make an instantaneous decision.  He did not wave Eaton home, thus the fatal pause.

No doubt.  He's been named at All-Star twice, this season and 2022.  The umpires can nail him any time they want for contesting calls--so that's not on him but on them.  Same goes for his apparel.  The Yankees have in the past been the strictest, but I guess that's gone.  Besides, I think MLB players went south the day they started wearing gold freaking necklaces in the field.

We are facing a righty, tonight, so I expect a whole new line-up.

Maybe....

1. L Duran LF

2. R Bregman 3B

3. L Yoshida DH

4. R Story SS

5. L Lowe 1B

6. L Abreu RF

7. R Rafaela CF

8. R Naravez C

9. # Sogard 2B (maybe lefty DHam)

The Red Sox knocked the Yankees out in 2004, 2018 and 2021.

Yeah, I'm kind of glad I cancelled my online subscription to the Globe.  Very expensive and I really don't need to read any more of Dan's hackneyed columns.

The Globe is useless.

Sogard is a switch hitter.

I recently cancelled mine at the end of the 6 month $1 subscription .  They called me a few days later and offered another 6 months for a $1.    You just have to hardball JH's workers to get what you need.

From my DVR.  Not to throw anyone under the bus, but EATON is told to GET BACK to 3rd.  Not stop, or round, or wait and see,  Ball hasn't even gone to 1st yet.

Welcome to TalkSox.

As I said before Game 1, I refuse to let this series get me wound up in knots .  I am glad the team broke through into the playoffs and maybe Early delivers a gem while we score 10 runs , but either way these guys achieved a breakthrough season.  Realize that a majority of our lineup was not intended to be in the roles they find themselves.

The one big reason for a win tonight is to force Breslow to find at least 2 healthy starters for next year.  This year's ALDS would be a farce .

I don't expect to see about 10 of them next year .  I only hope the replacements on the roster are just that much better and lead to an AL East title and 2026 WS.

If Duran does lead off today, and I hope he does not, but delivers another opening K, then there is something wrong with this otherwise exciting player who made a really costly mistake last night.
