Would you do it for Diaz and the struggling Taj Bradley?

Maybe?

Every pitch of his is really good except for his 4 seamer which he throws 50% of the time.

I think Duran and Abreu are better, but we need a 1Bman, and I think Bradley regains his MLB stature. He's only 24 and has 67 ML starts under his belt. (4.14 FIP from '24-'25 and 3.0 fWAR in his last 46 GS. That comes to about a 2.0 WAR over 30 starts.)

Tempting - would depend if Bailey thinks he can work his magic on him.

Diaz just got hit on the hand by a pitch and they immediately pulled him.

That does make his acquisition less likely…

I think you might be on to something.

Sox have shown interest in Civale.

Are worried about the next CBT threshold ($9-10M), which is complicating the deadline per Chris Cotillo.

3 players off injured today for the Rays.

Maybe should have sat them? IDK.

We , being TalkSox geniuses, are not worried about the CBT. Our buddy JH and his protege CB are very aware of it.  The prior CB, CBO, made a major mistake a few years ago on that matter.

I think Breslow’s only worried about it because Henry says CB should be worried about it.  I’m not a big Breslow guy, but he’s not making these types of decisions.

They were over that CBT level with Devers onboard. They got under after the trade. So were they ok with that budget prior to going into the year or were they always aiming to get under that budget by the deadline?

I want Joe Ryan but I have a feeling we will end up with Merrill Kelly.

which I wouldn’t completely hate

I have a feeling that we’re done. Matz is it. That would say to me that Henry has the same opinion of this team I have-that they’re not worth wasting a trade of any of our prospects or players in a futile attempt to make them competitive.

Talks are still ongoing about a Merrill Kelly trade to the Sox.

Yeah I saw a few tweets, but like….i don’t know what to trust on twitter on a day like today.  Plenty of smoke.

it feels like Kelly is the ceiling for how expensive the Sox wanna get.

I don’t hate it, it’s certainly much better than a lot of the other names we’ve heard floating around.  Kelly has been solid this year

I’d bet my first born son we are not done.  The vast majority of trades happen right up against the deadline

If they really aren't going over 9-10M, I think it's Kelly and maybe another role player.

I wouldn't say "vast majority" but a significant amount. I'd also say that the Sox have a history of making trades at the very end of the deadline.

If not buying was a sign they don’t think this team is good enough why wouldn’t they be selling off pieces?

either way, you can’t believe the Sox will make zero other trades.

small or large, another move(s) is coming.

Ok, A majority, and yes the Sox always seem to be in that boat with 1/2 the league.

Why did they virtually stand pat in '23 and '24? In '22, they didn't even do enough of a sell off.

Who knows with Henry?  Maybe he got excited about the idea not having to pay anything and changed his mind on the focus.

Per Spotrac, the Sox are $41,000 under the first CBT level; no idea if that includes Matz or not.

Last year they played it in between going all in and doing nothing or selling. I think they’re doing the same thing-making the same mistake-again.

The only thing they’re done so far is trade away a player we were going to lose anyway for a mediocre reliever.

And they made like 5 moves or so, not one.

I think they are worried about the second level. They are most likely over the first level.
