Taj could be the guy the Sox could keep the offense going with. He doesn't generate a lot of whiffs and has a bad 4 seam FB. The three guys after that are tougher matchups for the Sox IMO.

As with the other Rays starters, his worst starts have come at HOME.

Away: 637 OPS, 4.04 ERA

Buehler needs to keep that train rolling.

But he’s also 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.07 WHIP against Boston in 5 starts over his very short career…

That's the old BoSox. They've finally started to listen to Pete Fatse.

As I keep saying--much too often--tonight is the first of 13 games which are like a mini-season because the opponents all have winning records.  The Rays are the weakest at 50-43, and the other three--Cubs, Phillies, and Dodgers--all lead their divisions.

At the same time--as everyone has noticed--the Sox hitting seems to be better plus Yoshida is just back and Bregman is about to be back.  See MVP 78's stats above.  Right now you have to like at least 3 starters--Crochet, Bello, and Giolito.  Buehler, up tonight, is the worst, but it's clear he's determined to right his foundering ship.  We'll see.  The bullpen seems to be the weak point and that's a big deal because the Sox have 8 relievers and Chapman seems to be the only reliable one.

The other big weakness of course is the manager Alex Cora, who has utterly failed to school his players in the fundamentals.  I mean, they're fundamental, right?  Plus he is clueless about lineups, which relievers to use and when to use them, and how long to leave his starters in a game.

One weakness for the Sox will be relying on guys coming back from injury. Breggie hasn't had in game action in about 45 days. Dobbins is coming off the IL after having extensive plastic surgery performed. Very concerned about a comebacker up the middle.

It would be great, if Buehler got his act together to give us 2-3 nice starts before the deadline. The return of Dobbins, and the nice brief return by Fitts offer rotation hopes, too. Sandoval is the big wild card.

Back to Buehler:

8.68 ERA/ 6.41 FIP first 2 starts

2.56/3.91 starts 3 to 8

10.38/8.47 starts 9 to 14

Start 15: 5IP 8 hits, 0BB, 2K and 2ER

We need to see the Starts 3 to 8 Buehler, again. Tonight is a good time to show us.

Max, do I detect a whiff of .....sarcasm in your denigration of AC ?    Or did you hire Splendid Splinter as your ghostwriter.

AC is just fine as the 6 win streak will attest, at least , until he loses the Rays games  with poor decissions.

Masa must be tired from last night I guess.

Yoshida was on base too much and had to run further than his penguin legs could carry him.  Shades of Ron Cey

You seriously think Bregman isn't an improvement over Mayer at 3b on the very first day he's back?  As for Dobbins, he's a pitcher and just had a good outing at AA Portland.

Yoshida hadn't had a single AB this season and didn't look too bad yesterday.

Senzatela can have that effect on hitters…

Not the problem at all.  Yesterday they realized his grasp of the English language is not what it should be.

Watched a YouTube video featuring Bobby V. I know how much he is loved around here. Anyway he did discuss an interesting topic regarding catchers cheating.

According to Bobby framing a pitch is cheating. Intentionally fooling the ump by making a ball look like a strike should be treated similarly to a balk. Not only is Mr V angered about the framing not seen as cheating, he is more angered that catchers get higher salaries based on how well their framing talent is.

I found it to be thought provoking.

By the end of it the FLOPS will be clearly out of the postseason race.
BOOOLER just coughed up a 2R HR. Game almost over.

Boooler needs to pack his bags
