I’m close.  I would go:

1. Wilson

2. Narvaez

3. Kameron Misener

4. Smith

5. Campbell, just ahead of Meidroth…

I hope Mayer, Anthony and Dobbins can all make a run…

Misner can't win because (1) he doesn't play against the Sox enough 1361 OPS and (b) you didn't even spell his name right.

True.  But where do you place him?  if I asked for your top 5 ROY candidates so far, who is on your list?

Early favorite has to The Password - didn't even make the majors yet but is already the answer on game show trivia.

He'll be like Darryl Strawberry, who got voted to All-Star games for decades by casual fans just because they liked his name on the ballot.

I have him in third, and he stays there because I stuck to a numerical list and didn’t list my items as 1 and b…

I don't know about the Strawberry thing. In his AS years, he averaged 32 HR, 95 RBI, 86 R, 23 SB, 4.7 bWAR each year. He was really good in his 20's. His age 30 season just saw him fall off a cliff, but he never saw an All Star Game at that age.

I know he was a beast, but 1985 bugged me. The Mets had become a contender, but both Pedro Guerrero and Dave Parker deserved NL All-Star starts over Strawberry (Tony Gwynn and Dale Murphy were the other OF starters).

1985 First half stats: Guerrero 21-48-.312-.990... Parker 16-62-.304-.891.... Darryl 8-19-.229-.794

Fans knew Strawberry was going to OPS over 1000 the rest of the way if they gave him the ASG nod.

Pedro and Cobra both made the AS team however.

What about Brock Holt as an example of someone who made the AS team due to name/nickname reasons.

He was nicknamed the "the brock star", and i think it helped him get the AS votes.

It doesn't sound like Anthony is going anywhere any time soon.  I wouldn't think the Sox would call him up just to send him back down once Abreu returns.

I had forgotten about Yoshida, who presents even more of a logjam.  It sounds like he's still about a month away though.

Do not move the goal posts.  This started with a comment that the Sox don’t want Anthony to win ROY.  That’s ridiculous.  While there is a downside, theres also plenty of upside.

Of course right now, Hes not even a candidate…

I'm not moving the goalposts, I am responding to a moving conversation.

I doubt very, very much the Red Sox want Anthony to win ROY/finish in the top 2. Very much. They'd be delighted if Campbell and/or Narváez  are in the top 2 for obvious reasons.

Thy'd be very happy if Anthony plays well I've no doubt, but they also will not want to lose that year of control. especially on a team that is still some way from the finished article.

Teams like to control their star young players and manipulate service time. This isn't new, or remotely controversial.

Good post, Hitch.

I'm pretty sure Sox management would be thrilled to see Narvaez, Campbell, Mayer and Anthony finish 1-2-3-4 in ROY voting, because it would mean they all did very well, and we'd probably be in the playoffs.

No, they would not like losing the year of control, but to me, that is secondary.

Holt wasn’t voted to the All Star team; he was a sole team rep selected by AL All Star team manager Ned Yost….
