I was confident about 6 IP last time out for Bello. IDK about tonight. I think he'll at least go 5+ though.

Very successful series finish in NY.   Let's see if the team can maintain any sense of momentum and threaten the .500 ceiling this week.

Pretty much time for Bello to step up and be the #2 on this staff.

Rays have been coming on strong--7-3 in their last 10 games, 35-30 overall--and that's mostly because of their pitching.  Ours stinks, but recently our hitting/scoring has picked up--despite Bregman still being on the IL.

I would have bet money the Yankees would have swept the Sox last weekend, so my predictions are worthless.  So the most I can say about this series is that it will definitely be worth watching to see whether the Sox can still salvage this season.

Bello has really only had one bad game (7 runs by Atlanta on May 18), but he also has had problems going 5 IP.   And last night Cora used 8 relievers.

Bingo.  IP is a key stat when discussing Bello.

Not if Cora has any say in it…

Why do you say that?

Bello went 6 or more 11 times last year and 3 times this year.  Cora is not completely averse to leaving him in there.

It s did seem like Cora is, especially since Bello’s last start snapped a streak of 5 starts in which Cora pulled him in the middle of the fifth inning.  In 4 of those 5 starts, Bello allowed 2 earned runs or less, including one in which he was throwing allowed 0 earned runs…

He averaged 5.1 and 90 pitches per start last season. That's on Bello IMO. He just hasn't been that good. (That's 5 1/3rd FYI, I just didn't want to write it as 5.4 as that's not how it's shown on bref/fangraphs).

You're leaving out that he gave up 4 hits and 5 walks in those 4.2 IP, the Sox were leading 2-0, there were 2 men on and Garcia coming up.  Cora brought Slaten in and Slaten got Garcia.

Not seeing much to blame Cora for.

This ain't on Cora.   Season to date Bello has averaged 18 pitches per inning and his K/BB ratio is 33 to 24.

That said, I think Cora will be inclined to leave Bello in tonight as long as possible because he used 8 relievers last night.

Statistically, I think Bello is the #2 starter on this team.  If that doesn't terrify you, nothing will.

Nice to see Campbell, Mayer and Anthony playing together for the first time. Hopefully they are the real deal and the core of team to build around moving forward.

As I said on other post, if we don’t make the POs this year but as long they give plenty ABs to this core I have nothing to complain about.

They need to figure out how to trade Story and even Bergman though, and next year add a couple of elite bats and another ace to contend.

Starting 3 rookies tonight is sheer brilliance.  They become the Sox story this season if they can hit and stay in the lineup.  Given the miserable Sox pitching, I don't see much hope of the Sox getting back into the hunt, but who knows?

Great first inning by Bello!  Just 12 pitches, a K, and nothing hit hard.  His pitching stats say he is at his worst the first time through the lineup.

I also liked his command and saw nary a fat pitch.  He definitely worked the corners.

Yeah, he looks filthy tonight.

Sox make a lot of pitchers look CY worthy.

2 solid hits by the Rays in the 2d, but an easy grounder for 3d out.

The NESN director and no doubt the Sox front office have decided to follow Anthony standing in RF as much as the actual game.
