I remember that not too long before Casas injured himself, I made a post about how I didn't like that the big guys (Devers and Casas) could get away with not running hard down to first base every time.  (Verdugo was benched for it, if I'm not mistaken.)  Well, now we know why they don't run hard.

Im honestly not sure if Casas isnt running hard or if he is just that slow.  Its hard to know because he actually doesnt even ever really run. He waddles.

Ha.  This made me laugh.  Fair point.

My buddy is a yankee fan , and he asked me: are there any yankees / former yankees that you like/respect?

And Im like, of course!

Best yankee of all time: Kevin Youkilis. I also like Boggs, Clemens (Ive forgiven him), Ellsbury took a lot of money from you guys, love that.  Eovaldi def up there among my fave yanks all time.  Bellhorn had a stint there. David Cone I remember played one year on the sox , throw him on the list.  Franchy Cordero was worse for you than he was for us, plus he use to wear celtics jerseys, so that gets points with me.  Id have a beer with Andrew Miller.  I even have a player who I recently added to my list of yanks/former yanks who I like - Aroldis Chapman!  Add Navraez too.

Least fave yankees of all time: Joba chamberlain, Jeter, Posada,

Refsnyder and Steve Pearce come to mind.  Going back further, Don Baylor and even further, El Tiante.

Ruth might be stretching it a bit.

Any least favorite list has to include Brett Gardner (aka penishead).

Yes, Jeter is a myth. Most overrated player of all time. Give me AROD all day.  All day.  I have no respect for Jeter. I do have respect for AROD

Give Jeter some credit.  While not as good as ARod overall, he did get over 3,000 hits - a feat accomplished by exactly 0 mediocre hitters…

We'll have to agree to disagree, on both counts.  I understand that players want to stay at their current positions.  I get that completely.  However, I don't think I'll ever agree with a player not being willing to do whatever the team needs him to do.

How about not playing?

ARod 22 year regular season: .295, .380/.550/.930

Jeter 20 year regular season: .310, .377/.440/.817

ARod 12 years in post season: .259, .365/.457/.822

Jeter 16 years in post season: .308, 374/.465/.838

There. I gave Jeter the credit he deserves for repeating his consistency when it mattered most.

I have no beef with his bat.

He might be the worst defensive SS with a ton of innings in MLB history.

Well, I would imagine if a team asked a player not to play, there would be good reason for it.  It would then be on the player to work his way back into the lineup.

Derek Jeter's Defense (1500+ IP):

1995-2004

Last in DRA at -26. (Berroa was at -20 and the next guy at -15. The 4th and 5th worst added together was -25.)

Then he got way worse and hurt his team by staying at SS:

2005-2014

Last in DRS at a staggering -136. (second was HRam at -74, 3rd at -66, 4th -54. 3rd and 4th together wasn't as bad as Jeter. 5th+6th+7th wasn't as bad.)

Again, the guy was a big plus batter and team leader, but poor SS defense hurts a team's chances.

Yes but he wouldnt be "willing" to do it. He's going to say that they're going to have to make him not play regardless of the record or who is waiting to take his place. Us as fans, of course, push the "for the team" narrative much farther than the players would because all we want and get are the wins. The players on the other hand prioritize themselves playing professional baseball first and foremost, before team or fans or even winning.

I don't disagree with what you're saying.  Any player would be unhappy with being benched or being sent down to AAA, as they should be.  But I also think that a player not being able to play due to the manager's decision is a different situation than a player refusing to play where the manager asks him to play.  In either case, the player still has to do what's best for the team.

I don't disagree that most players probably prioritize themselves playing over the team and winning.  The onus is on the player not to become a clubhouse cancer, but to work his way back into the everyday lineup,
