That frees up a roster slot on the 40.

Fulmer?

Anthony?

Mayer?

It would most likely be for a pitcher.

There must have been something that soured Brez & Co. on Priester.

This goes against the recent trend of trading everyday players for pitching.

Maybe less about Priester and more about how well Fitts and Dobbins have progressed? Fitts really popped this offseason. Dobbins really progressed last year and then pitched great last night. They clearly believed in him enough to call him up. The trade is also a fairly good value: prospect plus competitive balance pick plus PTBNL.

I actually own Yophery Rodriguez in a very deep dynasty league. I’m pretty high on him and really like his potential.

Aside from Rodriguez, they also picked up a draft pick and some money? I like this trade a lot.

Somebody not on the 40, so to me, Fulmer looks like the guy. Does he have an opt-out date?

True. It might also be about wanting to add someone to the 40, right now.

No, he signed an MiLB deal.

Criswell has really stunk up the joint, so I could see him getting a demotion at some point.

Bello is still at least another start away. He only went 57 pitches yesterday, but looked better than last time out. Gio is further out? Who the hell knows?

How can you say that, after Criswell saved the game last night!

He was officially credited for a "save" for 3 IP, after taking the mound with the Sox only up 16-2...

(I didn't see the last inning, but just wondering if a 14-run lead is the all-time record for a reliever who actually qualified for a save).

MLBTR reports...

it also seems like a hefty price to pay and a reflection of the current pitching predicament in Milwaukee...

Baseball America ranked Yophery Rodriguez Milwaukee’s #14 prospect coming into the year. They note that he’s likely to be moved off center field into a corner over time, which will put more pressure on his bat to carry the profile.

Still, from the Sox perspective, it looks like a nice bit of business. Priester didn’t appear to be in their short-term plans. He was on pace to be out of options next year and may have been on track to getting squeezed off the roster. By pulling the trigger today, they have subtracted a depth piece but added some notable future talent.

The Sox are also missing offensive talent from low A through AA. There are a few high ceiling prospects here and there, but the org is pitching heavy at those levels for the most part.

Love the additional pick and money this deal has brought. Would have been happy if it had just been that. I do like cut of Breslow's jib.

The first offseason seems like he spent more time building the foundation (Bailey, Justin Willard) than on player acquisition in retrospect. Regardless of this year's record, the near future seems fairly bright.

We get back the pick we lost for signing bregman

we get an outfielder to replace Montgomery!

Yorke for Rodriguez, pick #33 and a player to be named or cash!!!

not bad!!!!

Pirates are rolling Adam Frazier out there instead of Nick Yorke. Joke franchise right now.

Pipeline has already slotted Rodriguez into the #11 slot in the Red Sox farm system.

That plus the #33 pick in this years draft is pretty darn amazing.

Now imagine if that PTBNL ends up being a stud.  I know I know.....now I'm just getting greedy.

They also made national news for removing Roberto Clementes number on the outfield wall and replacing it with a seltzer advertisement. They are one of worst run franchises in pro sports. It’s only a matter of time before they refuse to pay Skenes and he’s on the market.

Indeed. Feels very positive at the major and minor levels right now.

No sure about qualifying, but Texas RHP Wes Littleton did earn a save (in relief of Kason Gabbard) in a Rangers’ 30-3 win over Baltimore in August, 2007.

But Littleton came into the game with a much more precarious 14-3 lead….

This is just one of the many reasons why Save and Blown Saves are among the most worthless
