Story came back. Devers moved off 3B. Campbell plays 2B now.

Essentially Campbell replaced either Yoshida or Hamilton, depending on how much you believe Bregman was an option at 2b…

I think he was an option at 2b until they saw that Raffy hadn't even lifted a bat all offseason. My concern is that something is still wrong with Raffy's shoulder.

I don't think Bregman was ever a serious option at 2nd. Cora never showed any intention of giving him time there and I think Devers would have DHed whether he liked it or not.

Yup.

The choices from an offense perspective were...

DH: .775 Yoshida career (.810 v R and .669 v L) Devers at 3B and Bregman at 2B

2B platoon (Bregman at 3B and Devers at DH)

.697 DHam in '24 (.729 v R and .532 v R)

.723 Romy in '24 (.879 v L and .498 v R)

I like Campbell over both of these options, but I'd prefer DHam-Romy over Yoshida. The O could be about the same, and the defensive alignment is much better.

Yoshida is the odd man out in my book. He has options, so we can stash him in AAA, in case of a DH or 3B injury. He's not really a LF option, unless 2 get hurt.

He started 6 games last year and was not impressive.

Didn't we have him in our sight?

I'm glad we went with Mayer.

Cora also had access to the medical reports on Devers shoulders. I am sure that played a huge part in the decision making process
