I must say this was one of the more amusing headlines of the offseason.  The "preparing" part especially.

This thread was started on Dec 11th and now on Jan 19th still no extension for Crochet.  Does anyone actually believe John [ Ebenezer] Henry will actually approve the cost of what it will take to extend Crochet??  If you do I have property to sell you................

I fully believe we extend him, but probably just for 1 year more, or opt out after 3rd year with us.

A one year extension would really be weird.

I look for an extension sometime during ST. Most likely with an opt-out, and won’t be for as long as most people would like. No extension in ST won’t be a good look.

It makes more sense to get a look at him in ST. I'm not sure it being done by Feb 1 is the end goal here. I think they'll keep working at it whether we hear about it or not. The Bello and Rafaela extensions appeared out of nowhere. I think that's what will happen with this too. They may be negotiating and it's just not reported. 

I'd be flabbergasted if they traded all those prospects for only 2 years of Crochet.

Most likely more than only two years, but I have no faith that the Red Sox will offer Crochet enough where there isn’t an opt-out involved.

Yup, he'll want injury protection (long term deal), but the ability to opt out if he turns into one of the best starters in the game.

If he was going to sign an extension, I don't think anyone would expect it to be announced until spring training.
