Here's Paxton's chance to make a real contribution with a strong effort. Yesterday was a "need to win" game. Today is more of a must win.

Not shocked Devers needs a day off. A few swings yesterday probably aggravated his sore shoulder. All to no avail . His double in the 9th should have triggered a walk off rally, but Hader got the better of everyone else AC could run out there

Every game is a big one, now. We've dug a hole that is perhaps already too deep.

To climb out, we need to take one game at a time, and it sucks that this one will be without Devers, but in baseball, anything can happen.

We need a good game from Paxton and the pen. That sounds like a lot to ask, I know.

GO SOX!!!

Here's how plays not made have unintended consequences.

Alvarez hits a hot one hop to Dom Smith, Dom bobbles it off his glove, so Paxton realizes he has to cover first .

Paxton tries to hustle off the mound and injures the lower leg. Alvarez gets on base, and the Sox go to the bullpen about 6 pitches into the game.

Paxton done, maybe for awhile after 3 batters. The injury bug for Sox pitching rolls on.

How fitting it is that Brez picked up Paxton hitchhiking when he was driving in the breakdown lane, and now Paxton is broke down.🤭🙈

We’ve dug a hole that is perhaps already to deep? Are you bailing again? It’s not even Sept 1 yet. Wow!

Well, at least they got one start from hm. Paxton returns to the SOX and immediately goes on the IL, where he spent most of his time when he was previously on the SOX. Same old Story.

To make matters worse, when we tried to change the philosophy of relying on oft-injured pitchers by trading one (Sale) and signing a "durable" SP'er (Giolito,) we get that one horribly wrong, too.

That being said, the Astros have something like 5 of their top 6 SP'ers on the IL, and are streaking into the playoffs.

One cure for the pitching woes is for the hitters to wake up again and post 9-10 runs. Don't wait for the 7-8-9th to try and recover. See the ball, hit the ball.

Because Astros hit with RISP instead of Leaving Men On Base

Smith’s bobble had nothing to do with the play. A pitcher should be moving to first on any ball hit in that direction. He can always stop if the first baseman waves him off.

Didn’t look like Paxton got more than a couple of steps before he got hurt. If he waited to move, that’s on him.

We've scored about 40 more runs than HOU, this year.

They have had better pitching, despite having way more injuries to their rotation than we have had.

The Sox not hitting enough in this series to make up for the their substandard pitching

it is ok everyone. our BP will pick us up

I'm glad the BP will catch us up, because Wong certainly won't. Bernardino isn't tossing him cookies but the guy isn't handling spinning balls well.

sorry but i am watching dots

Are you referring to the way Brown is dotting the strike zone? He’s had no-hit stuff today and is putting every pitch where he wants it.

The Sox hitters are also showing no-hit stuff today

Garcia is another of the infamous 2 out per inning pitchers. Thinks he is still with the Angels. Poor play at Fenway continues for the Lost Boys

this game showcasing the 2 big BP arms Breslow acquired at the deadline

Yep , 3 of the 4 trades Breslow did have been shown up today as major duds

What makes that even worse is that even if they did great, we might not have one more win.

If Sims and Garcia were great Friday night, that was more than likely a win.

Man the lifeboats looks like MOOn is getting ready to bail again. MOOn’s opinion, prediction, or suggestion, and it doesn’t matter, which one it is says We’ve dug a hole that is perhaps already to deep. One thing about MOOn is you can tell, which way the wind is blowing. Blowing up North, and MOOn does his Candy Lauper impression, but blowing down South, and he might not be able to climb out of that deep hole, and it’s time to bail, and it’s only Aug 11. Just flip flopping away as usual.🙈🤭🤮

moon feels obligated to give a State of the Sox statement after every game. It's been a thankless task the last few years.

Not sure Penrod is the answer, but DFAing Bernardino looks like it might help…

He sure looked pretty good for almost a full calendar year.
