The Red Sox should absolutely, positively NOT trade Mayer, Teel or Anthony. They are the future of the team along with Houck, Duran, Devers and Casas. One or two additions are not going to win us a World Series. We don't need a Jeff Bagwell trade.

I have no doubt that the Red Sox front office feels exactly the same way.

If they do buy it will be something more along the lines of the moves DD made in 2018.

If they stick to the rental market, this won’t be a problem. If they go after Garrett Crochet or Tarik Skubal (whom they are reportedly out on), you’re not getting those types without at least one of the Big Three… Edited by notin

NOBODY should be untouchable if a trade makes the Red Sox better. You need to trade something good to get something good. Especially pitching.

I seriously doubt we even consider a big three trade at this deadline, maybe not even this winter, when those sorts of trades are much more common.

I agree that I don’t think any big trades of a top prospect will be done at this deadline, but after this all bets should be off IMO.

You can only buy what’s being sold. If the Sox stay in the rental market, they’d be stupid to unload one of the top prospects. That would be Bagwell-Andersen 2.0…

I’m not talking about any rentals, and none of the big three May never turn out to be a Bagwell.

It will be interesting to see just how few teams will be sellers and the large amount of teams buying and driving up the return costs.

Don’t be surprised if all we get is a 5/6 starter and cheap RHB.

Interesting. As always, you know that territory far better than I.

So, if no additions can be made at a reasonable cost, maybe the middle ground is that the Sox don't trade away Jansen, O'Neill, or Pivetta, all of whom are free agents at the end of this season. All three are "paid for" and all three would be missed.

As Cora keeps reminding the FO, the 2024 Sox have a real shot at the postseason, and the FO should reinforce success, not undercut it.

Trade Mayer.

They aren't getting Crochet unless they wait for the offseason.

Yes.

You don’t think a bigger haul could be had now from some serious contender who may think he could put them over the top?

Crochet will be moved before then. 2.3 years of Crochet is worth more in a trade than just 2 years…

A haul the size the Sox wouldn't be able to match. Sox only have a shot this offseason.

I'm OK with trading Teel but only for something very special, like in a trade for Guererro Jr.

While I like Teel, in two years J.Garcia can be where Teel is today. They have the depth in the system to replace Teel, and Wong can hold down the starting job at the major league level while Garcia develops.

I would not trade Anthony, Mayer, or Campbell, but am open to trading Teel.

I need to hear more from the folks who follow prospects for a living whether Kristian Campbell has made it a Big 4.

This. That said, the sort of deal that would make trading one of the top 3 or 4 prospects palatable would be hard to do at the deadline - and might not very well exist.

Pitching is more volatile - but you also need a pitcher to play the game. If you don't draft and develop pitching, you have to trade for it.

As far as the deadline goes? I think trading Yorke makes sense - teams will want a cheap big capable starter - again the right deal. I would not be super precious about it. Conor Wong is an interesting sell high idea, but it is so hard to find good catching and it'd be a big bet on Teel defensively.

More importantly, the Sox have won enough games here to be educated buyers.

I was about to type this.

Soon, Cespedes might make it 5!

Not for 1.3 yrs of a guy having a somewhat down year.

BTV Accepts Yoeilinis Cespeds for Vladimir Guerrero JR.

He's the pefect fit for this year. He's right handed, and can play 1B if Casas has a hiccup on the way back, spell Devers and play DH.

You wouldn’t trade for Vlad unless you knew you could extend him, so the 1.3 yrs is really irrelevant, and way out of the Red Sox price range anyway.

Everyone knows what I think of BTV, but more importantly the Jays would want no part of that deal unless others were added to it.

Nope. He can play second or left field and he can hit. He is also going to be cheap for five years.

He'll probably be cheap for his entire career. Trade.
