Houck is dealing some hardball now. Another shutout working with a decent pitch count through 6.

The key ---he is throwing a lot of strikes with movement on the pitch.

Who positioned Dalbec on the last hitter facing Houck ? Two ground balls that inning eluding Sox infielders by a hair

Dalbec literally does not have the faintest clue when thrown a good fastball. The big exaggerated leg kick is the worst thing he can do. I bet Cooper is on the field Tuesday at 1B.

MLB managers kill themselves with stupid adherence to the closer strategy.

AC thought he was going to get to the 9th with a 2-3 run lead and then use Jansen, who has not been perfect himself. Martin's HR ball was middle of the plate but a bit down, unlikely to get over the CF wall but reality can be a bitch

I hated how it turned out, but Martin was facing the 9-1-2 hitters. Once the first two got on, he was forced to pitch to Tauchman because of the awful 3 batter minimum rule. If Martin did get his hitters out, Jansen would have faced the 3-4-5 hitters in the ninth.

So, not really on Cora here…

Good game nice win against a quality team. Sox win the series. The only sour note for me is the ESPN broadcast. They suck. Makes one appreciate NESN.

Incorrect. Martin was not forced to face Tauchman. He got the last out in the 7th and then allowed the two hits to start the 8th, so he had faced his 3 batters. Both hits were bloops, so it’s not like he was being line drived to death. I had no issue with him facing Tauchman. If Cora brings in a lefty, it’s either Bernardino, who pitched yesterday, or Rodriguez, who gave up 3 runs in an inning on Friday and whose performance this season needs no further comment.

Tauchman got him, it happens.

Duran got away with it, but he made a mistake on the game winning play. He was not tagging up on O’Neill’s hit. If Swanson catches it, he doesn’t score. If he’s tagging, even if Swanson catches it, there is almost no way Duran gets thrown out at the plate.

I like the 3 batter rule and have absolutely no sympathy for Martin. He screwed up royally, period.

Agree--he screwed up. And so did the Sox 3d base coach.

If we DFA an infielder, I'd want an infielder added, too.

We still have only Dalbec backing up 1B.

We still have just Dalbec & Reyes backing up 3B.

We have nobody I trust backing up Rafaela at SS.

Once Grissom returns, we'll have plenty of back-up 2Bmen: Reyes, Valdez, DHam and maybe Romy when he returns.

(I forgot to add DHam to my DFA list.)

i think Lugo could do just as well, if not better than Reyes and DalbeK at 3B.

Please familiarize yourself with the rules (particular the 3-batter rule) before launching your condescending tirades against the manager, or the players, the rules, the sport in general, or other posters.

I don’t get this.

2-3-4 hitters up and you don’t go to Jansen?

Cora was right bringing Martin in when he did NO Matter who he was facing, and when, and Cora was right bringing in Jansen when he did. One worked, and one didn’t. There was nothing to get.

Agree on the 3 batter rule. It helps speed up the game, and it helps stopping the managers if even a little bit from over managing.
